Did you have the Yakima deflector installed on the front bar? I have a
Scion xB, and saw the same mileage drop, plus excessive wind noise, but the
mileage pretty much came back with the deflector, and the wind noise was
gone. Obviously, loading the racks will reduce the mileage, but I wonder if
the deflector will help on the Van when they are empty..

Unless you 'absolutely' have to have a roof rack.......I would suggest no
going that route.
The roof rack and whatever you mount there will impact your gas mileage at
least 2-4 mpg.
I have removed my Yakima Tracks towers and just put everything inside.
An alternative would be a rear hitch mounted carrier......no drag.
