Re: Name Your Camper!

Dave

I think someone else on the list has used this in the past, but we call
ours "Vincent" as in it's a "van" and it does "go" (except when I'm
having immobilizer issues). The latest fix from the stealer is that it
needs a new battery. I can't complain. It's a 2001 with the original
battery, so it doesn't owe me anything....

Yakima or Thule Cargo or Rocket Box on Pop Top

glencgilbert

I am new 1993 Eurovan MV Weekender owner. I am taking my wife and kids
cross country this summer for 2 mos. and would like to add a cargo box
to the roof. Will this harm the pop top? Does anyone have
recommendations for particular cargo box sizes or types of mounts that
fit? I will only pop the top when the box is empty at night. The
Yakima I am looking at weighs 35 lbs. for 15 cubic feet of storage
for pillows, sleeping bags, clothes, etc. I saw one person added an
additional support bar for his poptop. Is that necessary? Thank you, Glen

Another tire option? Diamonback tr918 225/60/16 102h

Never heard of this brand, but looks like a perfect fit and for $52.00
can't beat the price. Anybody know anything about these? They are

If cost is not a consideration, then the F45 or the Horizon would be
the way to go. They are both really the same awning, but with
different fabric.

You should also consider the Sidewinder II 9ft. awning which was an
original factory option. This is not a crank out awning like the
F45/Horizon, but it is much less expensive and only takes a couple of
minutes to setup with 2 people. If you camp alone, then the crank out
is the only way to go.

btw, I have one F45i with EuroVan brackets brand new in the grey
Titanium fabric ready to ship. With brackets it's listed at $706.50 on
our website. I would offer it to the list for 10% off. Shipping is
$100-$150 depending on where it is going. I had a bunch of these made
and this is the last one. This color was really popular last year, but
now it seems everyone wants Blue Ocean.

Re: replacement faucet

Lot's of RV places carry the same faucet in white, which may be a bit cheaper. The grey version was exclusive to Winnebago.

We also offer a less expensive faucet on our website:

My plan is to switch to a set of them for my 2002 EVC when the
current
225/60/R16 102H UTQG 400AA Michelin MXV4 Plus tires need replacing
since Michelin has discontinued the 102H rated tires which we need
for
the vehicle. My only concern is making sure that it will still fit
under my garage door opening which is already very tight with the
original 225 tires. Hopefully the 235's will still give me enough
clearance.

Hope this helps.

Re: looking for an awning

Our van has an 8 foot Fiamma F45i that I got at Go Westy. I like the
look of the 8 footer vs the 10 footer (it extends over the front
door). It is very simple & quick to crank out or in & has adjustable
stabilizing legs that quickly fold out for any situation. It even has
clips on the side of the van that support the awning legs off the
ground. The crank is convieniently stored in clips above the sliding
door.

The one "problem" was when camping it rained & we wanted the door
open - the rain came down between the awning & the door. But I laid
some newspapers on top & diverted the water.

Re: Recommendation for where to get spare parts/accessories online

Michael,

The waste valve is common, the cap is no longer available.

We can help you with the valve if you give us a call.

The panel for the fridge is likely no longer available as well. If you can find the part number I can check on it.

You can download the parts list here:

When my mechanic had my van this week for brakes said my tranny fluid was
low so he added some and he said it looked brown too. What this tells me is

kit with the Pentosin, gaskets, etc. for the fluid change on this list?

Flat rate. This includes built-in converter, to supply meter
from voltage being measured. [Other style meter reads 0-20V
& uses a 9V battery.]

His Bay Store has 0-2, 0-20, 0-50, 0-100 Ammeters, LCD
Back-lit [match VM] - Buy Now @ $6.99 + $13.65 USA S/H,
for individual purchases.

I asked seller about a possible Group Buy to my USA location,

"Hi,the price of one volt meters is USD9.99

The price of one AMP meters is USD16.99 include

Notes: Voltmeters & Ammeters look identical, except
for tiny 'A' or 'V' on display. Shunt is external [supplied]
for 20A & above.

The external shunt on 20A allows easy remote reading by
running low current wire to meter.

Meters can be surface mounted. Depth = 2 cm, width 2 cm,
Height = 4 cm.

Shipping from China still seems high. I'll try to work with
him for best total price after I see how many are interested.
The 0-20V Blue LED meter I asked him about has a $6.99
price; the 7-20V LCD is $2 cheaper, so that's a start. I
*think* my local USPS shipping will be $2 for an individual
Volt-meter, or $3 for 2 meters shipped together to USA.
Canadian rates about $1 USD higher.

I think he will allow substitutions, if a few want Red or Blue
LED vs. LCD. See his 'store' for many meter options, including
AC. Shipping is more for higher current meters, but he *may*
add a few to a group shipment. They are heavier also, due to
external shunt.

Disclaimer - I'm not associated with the Bay seller. I'm not
trying to make $ from this, but maybe we can save with a
Group Buy.

I haven't used this latest version of the panel meter, but
I've used the 0-20V LED model, with 9V battery. They can't
be powered from same circuit being measured, but are nice
meters. Some were packaged with & w/o the bezel, but his seem
to all have them. You can see his pix of 7-20V & 2A [+ 20A,
etc. w/ ext. shunt] meters.

I already cut my '03 EVC power panel above the 'fridge for
mounting my old Red LED meter, but will wait for the Blue
Back-lit LCD units.

A few Q & A + discussion may be appropriate here, but we
can handle most details direct, if there is enough interest.

Re: Rear Torsion Bar Loose

I have the Bilsteins which replaced the OEM shocks on a Weekender about 30k
Miles ago. They are OK but unimpressive. There are two varieties (maybe
more) of Bilsteins; I have the lighter duty ones. The heavy duty ones are
suitable for Campers only.

I had a 93 Weekender on which I tried the HD Bilsteins. They make for a
harsh ride. I changed the front HD Bilsteins back to OEM.

Man, I hear you there. I've creepy crawled my Weekender on some
pretty rough stuff, picking my way past big rocks, down some sandy
washes, and have even done a few stream crossing with it, but it's
always a harrowing experience and I am always with another vehicle.

I mean, can it really be the ultimate camper if it can't get to the
ultimate camping spot? I don't go up 4x4 roads a ton... but I sure
like to from time to time.

My solution is a truck with a Sportz Truck bed tent for those times
when I'm itchin to get to my "nobody comes here cause the road is
bad" camping spots.

I just load up the same gear for camping as I take in my Weekender,
and I'm good to go...

For all the other times, I'm rolling in the VW.
