Re: Question about EVC

We go a good indication from someone on the list that there was going
to be a 2000 EVC, check with VW.

You can get an aftermarket remote keyless entry, check with local auto
sound dealer.

Some list members have received slightly better prices than others
34-36 is probably what you can expect. Several members reported
calling several dealers and asking for their best price - I just bought
the closest available EVC.

Good luck - oh, also the rumor about the 2000 EVC included colors other
than white.

original article:
Hello Everyone,
I?m thinking to buy the EV Camper and I have just joined the mailing
list.

I went to a VW dealer today to see a 2000 EV MV. It was very nice car
but unfortunately they didn,t have the Camper.
I'm sorry for the begginer questions, but may I have some about the
EVC?

1. I know the EV camper is heavier and longer and I wonder how the
differences effect on the driving feeling. Is there
any difference between the normal EV and the camper? By the way, I
felt the MV's handling was good enough.

2. Sales person I talked said there would be no 2000 EV Camper since
Winnebago build the car based on a base EV
made on every other year. Is this true?

3. 1999 EV does not have a remote key and I really like it. The sales
person told me there is no remote key option for
1999 EV from WV. Is there any after market product?

4. As a nature of that kind of car, I understand I can?t expect a
large discount, but is the price, $36k, reasonable?

5. I don't dislike the white color but why another color variations
are not available?

Any response would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Tad

EV: Do it yourself fault code analyzer (was: Testing Oxygen Sensor)

According to my owner's manual, if there has been a malfunction anywhere in
the ECS, a code will be stored (for the dealer to ready?). But you are
supposed to be able to read it yourself by connecting some sort of strap

how to do this? My owners manual is pretty vague about it.

Browsing Jan's VW Page, or "The V Files", (
pal.usc.edu/~jan/cars.html ) I came across info on a do it yourself fault code
analyzer for VW ( ). This
may be of interest to those of you that wish to troubleshoot the "Check Engine
Light" (ref: EV_UPDATE thread 10/27/98-12/28/98) without a large monetary
investment.

The article includes instructions on making the tool, how to tie it into
the
vehicle harness, test procedures, and the 4 digit fault codes. I assume that
the section labeled "From March 1990 / 4,5,6 and 8 cylinder" is valid for the
EV. The text below is the lead-in to the article.

system of injection, ignition and emissions fault diagnosis. These faults
can be
easily read with a simple set of tools and this document.
The tools needed consist of a simple test light and a small jumper wire
with
alligator clip ends. (Jumper wires are normally sold in pairs. One can be
used to
construct the test light below.)
The test light can be constructed with an LED, a 330 ohm 1/4 watt
resistor and a
jumper wire with alligator clips at each end.

Is there a way to test the oxygen sensor on my 93 EV?
Dennis -

I have a fault code reader for my 93 Mercury Tracer, which I used while
troubleshooting power loss problems. It told me there were possible faults
with the oxygen sensor and mass air flow sensor. A do-it-yourself book
described how to test the oxygen sensor by removing it from the vehicle and
applying heat to the tip with a propane torch while monitoring the output
cable with a voltmeter. It passed the test. The MAF sensor also passed the
crude test provided for free by an auto parts store. I eventually caved in
and surrended the car to a shop specializing in engine diagnostics, and they
found high resistance in the MAF cable, along with dirt on the sensor itself.
A cable replacement and cleaning of the MAF sensor cured the problem.

Warning: the specialist told me that the do-it-yourself test for the oxygen
sensor was a very bad practice, a good way to fry the sensor. Apparently I
was lucky.

I'm going to miss the simplicity of my '71 Ford when we finally depart
company. It has a 6 cylinder engine with manual transmission, and it just
keeps going and going and going... I believe the reports that say you can't
kill that engine!

there is a "bulb-like" section of the exhaust coming right off the engine

(first of two mufflers), and finally the muffler at the back.

Assuming the 93 EV is similar to the 99, a great way to talk around this

And as long as we are under there, I have a question about the 99 EVC blower
fan for the rear passenger area. It appears from Dave's photo that the fan
draws air from a plenum along the right side of the vehicle and blows it
through the floor vents behind the front passenger seat. Am I seeing water
lines on the left side for a heater core? What is the purpose of the heavy
wire mesh on the front and rear of the unit?

Re: Michelin Agilis 51 Tires

Eckhard,

We recently put a set of Michelin Agilis 51 tires on our '97EVC. The local
Michelin dealer we went to simply called the warehouse in SC and ordered
them. It only took 3 working days for them to arrive here in Asheville, NC.
I think its all a matter of whether or not the dealers you've talked to
really want your business, or just consider having to special order a single
set of tires too much of a nuisance to be bothered with.

Just my opinion.

95 Eurovan Camper optional bench seat

Hi,

We already have a '95 Eurovan Camper, but are looking for the optional bench
seat. Would you by any chance happen to have this? If so, would you be
willing to sell it separately?

Thanks,
Lyle

Something new to learn, hopefully this contributes to keeping us young.

Thanks Steve for all of your effort in maintaining the EV list. The
list has been very helpful to me and I really appreciate all of your
time and effort. Good luck and happiness in all that you do.

I mentioned to the Micheline rep that their web site claims the new 99 EV
only requires a 92 load range tire. He checked it immediately and said it
was an error. He promised the web site will be changes in a few days. It
appears these tires will be available for a while, provided you can find
someone willing to order them for you. I considered mail order but I am
trying to avoid the S&H charges.
Hope this helps
Eckhard

Dear Eckhard & EVlist,
I think this is why I have a set of 92 Load range Michelins on my 92 EV5
Camper.
I have to admit that they seem to handle well, and if it hadn't been for a
list members posts within the last 10 days I might have never noticed the
load range was "low".

Re: EV: Tires

There are no other tire options?? What is so special about this Agilis tire??? I find this rather amazing.

Don't need the Agilis now, but will in about a year.? Think it is
worth "hording" (sp?) a set due to all this talk about discontinuing
the tire?

Re: Inner CV Joint Removal

You CAN buy them elsewhere........ Try auto parts stores { pepboys and the
like } I bought a set of diff sizes in the past. I think I got them at sears
or pepboys???

12 point also for head bolts??????

How did you do it? We saw this on other models and want to do it with

Also, what bike rack do you have?

Thanks.

I have a similar problem only that mine works fine in all speeds but high -
but, every once in a while it works in high also.

I haven't checked yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if the blower motor out
of a jetta/golf/passat works.

I assume that I will have to replace the blower as well.

I am just glad that I don't have to go looking for a jet engine part. ;-)

That would be the one for the rear blower, the one you want is behind the
glove box (somewhere), inside the blower ducting. It is removable with
Philips screwdriver. It also has a six or eight pin connector on it.
Once
you remove it, you should have something that is ceramic coated (either
green or black. I believe that you can use the same part out of a jet.

'Tis not a stupid question. You will be looking for a round thing about
1"
in diameter, about 3.5-4" long with wires coming off the side.

Re: 93 ev mv wkndr power loss

Tassy-Becz Andras

Your problem may be as simple as changing the catalic converter. So you are
cruising down, with 70, then a broken piece clogs the exhaust in you
muffler, and then when you turn your engine off everything returns to
normal. Is that it?
I had something like that before. The catalic converter sometimes breaks in
little pieces, and clogs the muffler. One way to know that your exhaust is
clogged is that your RPM drops down much slower than it did before from
5-6000 to 1000

Jerry Carter rta:

Russ,

Can you post what the temp gauge indicates before and after you
experience the power loss? I'm guessing here, but it sounds like as
the EV warms up, you're losing the benefit of the enrichment injector
so you fault may be in the fuel injection system - the normal
operating mode has a problem somewhere.

Do you have any ideas?

By the way, I have Goodyear Regattas on the van. My
