Re: Body shop recommendations? - San Francisco Bay Area

I'd also love to find a body shop on the peninsula.? There are plenty of shops but the prices around here are beyond belief!? Maybe we could caravan down to Tijuana!??

Re: Backup camera?

For my 2003 EVC, I found a single DIN combo unit on Amazon that is CarPlay, Android, radio and all the goodies.? I hardwired the backup camera to just below the brake light on the rear inside window so I can see well even when I have bikes or a carry box on the trailer hitch. It was fairly easy to hide the line.? So far, so good!? It has a 10-inch screen that adjusts to what viewing angle you want,?

Re: Backup camera?

I did some minor mods to my dash to accommodate a modern Sony double DIN ¡°radio¡± that also has reverse camera functionality. The big touchscreen screen and CarPlay phone interface is a big jump into the current era (error?) where smart phones have hijacked our lives¡ªas I write this on my smart phone :-|¡.?

I routed the cable for the camera under van and mounted the camera in the rear bumper, offset to the R to clear my bike rack. Turns on when I put it in reverse and shows me what I need to see right on the dash. ?I?highly recommended this mod to any EV owner.

I¡¯ll post pics and more deck head specs later.?

Editing this because we got the furnace working.? It just needed some cleaning after not having been used in a while.? Also removed a lot of the rust.? We're also working on getting the fridge to run on propane and are confident we will with some cleaning.

Re: Backup camera?

I have a Garmin backup camera on my 2002 EVC and it works great.? It works with a Garmin Drivesmart which you can get in several sizes.? Mine has a 6" screen.? It is wireless and the batteries last for more than 6 months.

Backup camera?

Awhile back we added a cheap license plate mounted backup camera with a small screen to our EVC 2000. It plugs into the cigarette lighter and has proved to be useless. ?Has anyone added a full screen backup camera such as those manufactured by BOSS? ?How did it work out? I¡¯m hesitant but I really like the backup camera on our 2019 Crosstrek.?

Thanks!

Re: tips on replacing rack and pinion assembly?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Sorry to be late with the response?

I did this a couple of years ago on a vr6. ?Get an inner tie rod remover. ?Remove the inner tie rod from the new rack

Mark carefully how the rack attaches to the steering wheel splines. ?It took me 3 days to get it re-attached

I had to drop the exhaust manifold. ?Don¡¯t do that?

Stephen

?My 97 EVC with 230K recently developed a serious leak from the rack and pinion assembly. Anyone have tips on removal/replacement? Bentley's suggests that both the sway bar and exhaust need to be removed to get at it on a 97, but doesn't mention the exhaust removal on a 95 (5 cylinder). A casual look at it appears to show that there is a surprising amount of clearance down there and that you should be able to remove/replace it without taking out the exhaust - which would be nice since those 6 bolts up at the manifold are a bear to get off.? Any thoughts?

Subject: [eurovanupdate] Cold Tire inflation information

Hello all! I'm trying to decipher the information on the door jamb for "Cold Tire Inflation Pressure". Not sure what all the diagrams and info means.
Can anyone please help me? ?Just installed a set of Continental 4x4 Contact 215/65R 16XL 102V XL and can't figure out what pressures I should be running for everyday 1-2 person minimal luggage should be. I've owned this van since new and have been using 44psi front and 40psi rear on other tires with a 225/65/16 size.
Any help appreciated.?

In my experience, what you¡¯re describing is what happens just before the ignition switch fails. Swap it out sooner than later.

Re: norcold lights and stays lit but relighter continues to fire and no green light

Maybe check the voltage signal strength at the interuputer. Might have enough voltage to keep the gas safety valve open but not enough to trigger the relighter board/led? The service manual troubleshooting flow chart is very helpful if you haven't seen it. If the signal is in spec you might be right in condemning the relighter.?

Re: norcold lights and stays lit but relighter continues to fire and no green light

sometimes the igniter button gets stuck in the on and won't depress???

Re: advice and parts for 2003 EV MV WE

I don¡¯t remember how I figured the engine code out. I think there is a label under the hood or maybe in the driver¡¯s door jamb that says what it is.

Re: Wiring for trailer #electrical

So should I not be connecting to the 7 pin that plugs into the tail light at all?

There will not be 12 volts at the 4 pin connector. See attachment for what is available at the 4 pin connector.

Re: Wiring for trailer #electrical

I had a similar issue back when I owned a 1985 Vanagon Westy. It was just weird. I finally ripped everything apart and discovered no less than 3 (three!) different trailer wire attachments had been made in the life of the van - using those crappy "splice" connectors which try to cut through the insulation but not the underlying wire.

If you aren't the first owner, I would recommend you pull both tail lights and go over them carefully to look for prior attempts which may be confusing things.

I have a1999 EVC and am attempting to wire the harness for towing a trailer. I have it all connected to the passenger side rear tail light wires, following the color coded wires from the wiring diagram in the manual. It is connected to the house battery in the rear right compartment by the right rear tail light. My problem is that do not get 12 volts at the 4 pin connector that connects to the trailer.

Any help would be appreciated.
