Welcome to new members. We have at least 20 people joined this group within the last 5 months and NO posts as yet. Hopefully there should be something to discuss with hobbyist in this forum and please share or how can this group of members help. The digitalhobbyist protocol is it is necessary for the first post from a new member to be moderated, after that normally any on topic posts will be allowed through the system. Best regards and a good New year. -- John

RELS 5 #RELS
Hi Leslie and group. I hope this schematic addition in the files section helps towards you resolving your current build issues. For your interest I have in my current RELS " threading" section both Metric and Imperial screw cutting choices. My lathe has metric leadscrews and all RELS menus work OK, I mention this as I read you were concerned this mix of Metric/Imperial was maybe the cause of your non operative problems. Through the last years I have added new tapers 1, 1.6, 2, 10, 20, 30. 45, (MAX ANGLE) degrees and a vast selection of off the wall very fine thread pitches needed for my musical instrument repairs. The early Japanese musical instruments circa 1960?s that flooded the Western world countries and other household commodities using threads were not in conformity to the International Thread standards at that time. Now they use the ISO 965 which is the latest standards. I believe the early Datsun circa 1960 -1975?s were a nightmare for finding replacement nuts bolts etc unless they were produced by Datsun. OE. I have purposely not uploaded to the Files section my latest V5 data or H files to include these additions. These "add ons" can be easily added on a "if needed basis" by the individual RELS users. Cheers John -- John

Keypad REL 5. ino 10 #RELS
Hi all, sorted the reason having issues with sketch and TablesV5.h because I copied the imperial feed as well from xls into Table 5.01. Now the Keypad buttons will not work so reverted back to RELS 2.0 ino and the keypad works. Is there different Mega 2650 connection with Version 5.0 ino ? Has anyone got the schematic as seemed to misplaced mine

Factory cnc mini lathe 3
Hey all, picked this little guy up yesterday. Has anyone had any experience with factory made cnc mini-lathes? I can find the model number still made but it is a more modern full enclosed touch screen cnc machine

#include "TablesV5.h" 14 #include
Hi John I am trying to install your latest version RELS_V5.0n which I may add is really helpful especially the include "Tables V5h "if I can get it working ? . I completed RELS data for my lathe parameters. Not sure how to implement #include "TablesV5.h" in the sketch I get an error "no such file" in IDE

#OILERS before the digital age. #OILERS
Good morning members. Please see link below, hope of interest. My good friend Dave Abbot (Myford Boy) put me onto this. Naturally before the digital age this type of oiling was fitted on most machine tools using spindles in my very long history of engineering. I also built his design of a power hacksaw, 14 years ago and it is still my main stay of cutting up bar stock. Please search You Tube if interested in any of (Myford boy) projects, His casting work is amazing and very simple. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6UDVE8nvbs Thanks -- John

Hi Julian Many thanks for your rapid response and I appreciate the full post. It seems to me, and I am not an expert that there are at least 2 types of oiler systems 1) gravity "drip" for spindles etc , 2) pressurised using a more viscous oil. My mill is a pressurised type, by operating the hand pump, the oil flows along the tubes and slowly finds it?s way between the dovetail slides. So I will currently stay with what I have, if I do not like filling up the reservoir through the window, then I will get a bigger workshop. LOL Good greetings to Mark. -- John

Congrats to Julian & Mark 10
Julian / Mark I just saw your article in Model Engineers Workshop May edition about your Auto oiler . Way to go ! I started reading it & thought to myself this looks kinda familiar , then I say who the author was . animal

#Gearcutting 3 #Gearcutting
Please see the attached video of cutting the keyways using a sub routine g code and DDCS controller. Basically the X axis is central with the bore, the Y axis is set to a finished depth. Z axis moves up and down, an increment of cut added Y to each stroke until final depth of the keyway, At that point the machine returns to home position. Typical of a actions of a slotting machine, but using a vertical mill hands off. Hope of interest. John -- John

#Gearcutting 3 #Gearcutting
Good morning members. This months cover photo shows a group of gears that I machined using a CNC DDCS control box, and home made indexing head, and a sub routine g code. These gears replace the original factory plastic gears in a Real Bull mini lathe. I did buy a set of replacement gears steel gears, but these were very noisy, as the center line distance or pitch diameter between mating teeth was excessive. So decided to make my own using aluminium. Photos show 12 T 20T 21T 29T gears and the use of a MOD 2 involute gear cutter. The root diameter of the teeth were cut out using a 3 mm wide slitting saw. Any questions please ask Thanks -- John

Could/would someone summarize state of this ELS for me? 9
I have been bouncing around looking at various posts here but I can't come up with a clear picture of the status. 1. Is this a viable project to me to use 2. Where are the files and schematics? I want/need to build an ELS for my 1022 lathe, would really prefer one with Z and X. Gerrit

Good morning members. Hoping that the reintroduction of the RELS files and photos will be of interest. I have changed this months cover photo showing the DDCS V 2.1 control box, I use a Weiss mini mill with stepper motors to X Y Z and a controlled A Axis, indexer. There are newer versions available as mine is 4 years old. Search the web if anyone is interested. This control box handles all my needs for profile milling and multi tooth gear cutting. I recently had a small parameter setting problem with Backlash control speeds, but the support of the DDCS technical guys was more than excellent, all sorted out within a week again this version I am running was developed up to 6 years ago and still get the support I needed. For those who run routers, then this system is worth considering. I am in no way sponsoring or being financially supported by this excellent Chinese based company. There is a #CNC for ease of searching this content, I hope to post more photos in this section within a few days. Hope this post is of interest, and please ask questions, -- John
