Re: Kindle on SensePlayer

开云体育

I installed eSpeak from the list of supplied apps.

Is it not there anymore?

There was another free synth which I will check out later when I get back to my SensePlayer.

My own experience with eSpeak is that installing it appeared necessary to unlock the capability of Dolphin easy Reader to then be able to download and use the supplied Nuance voices with that app. For some odd reason, for me at least, you could not download the Nuance voices until eSpeak was available. So actually, I installed eSpeak not to use it but to unlock the capability to download Easy Reader in-app voices.

?

I forgot to mention that I did get access to a Kindle Book via installing Amazon Alexa on the SensePlayer and just getting Alexa to read my Kindle book. In practice though I still use my iPhone for Kindle, as it is much easier to change books etc.

Amazon Alexa is one of those apps which keeps on complaining about needing access to the Google Play Store. You can still bust through the error messages to get some functionality, but it is a bit of a palaver. I think Hims needs to bite the bullet and negotiate some kind of access to the Google Play Store – I suspect that this will cost them some money to register the SensePlayer with Google, so they are likely to run scared of this. Perhaps some discussion with Google Access teams if they have not already done this?

Thanks David.

I haven’t been able to find the espeak app in my list of apps which seems rather limited, how did you find it ?

There is this new Assistive Reader option in the Kindle iOS app with built in text to speech so maybe it will work on the Sense player as well.

Someone? may have a later more positive update but on the Sight ??Sound Seminar on the SensePlayer last year Jenny from Hims reported that they had not been able to find a keyboard command to actually start TTS reading of the Kindle book.

Having said that I have noticed several reports of the Kindle app working with Braille on the Braille Sense so perhaps there would be no harm in somebody trying this out.

As you say the apps on the SensePlayer are definitely increasingly hit and miss. ?The various app developers seem to be making it harder for any app to operate without access to the Google Play Store, which is tripping up some of the ones I have installed.

Until Hims crack that particular nut I suspect that app development will be inconsistent at best.

Hello everyone

Having recently acquired a SensePlayer second hand and still getting to grips with this complex device. I’m wondering if it’s possible to install the Kindle app on it and a TTS engine? I’ve upgraded to version 2.1.?

Many thanks?

BBC Sounds app on Sense Player needs updating

I don't use this myself but tried it out today via the list of Apps on the Sense Player and it displayed a message saying this version is no longer supported and needs an update?
Guess it's the downside of this kind of functionality?

Thanks for confirming the stream 3 does indeed play both the local and national BBC stations.

Yes, your playlist would be very useful for when I eventually purchase a VR stream 3.

Yes, the Stream 3, unlike the Stream 2, ?does support BBC Stations via the Humanware playlist. It also ?support both national and local stations.

Having said that on occasions my Stream 3 does not play the required station. Sometimes a Stream restart will cure this, but ?to help out ?with this I have also imported a separate BBC Station playlist from a GitHub page which generally works if for some reason the Stream 3 is failing to connect with within the Humanware playlist.

I can post this playlist if useful, you would need to place on SD card and import in Stream settings.

Hello Matthew

Just 2 basic request-

  1. the return of time navigation in Music files.

At the moment it is only possible, as far as I can tell, ?using, 2and 8, granularity to navigate by file, level 1, level 2 3 etc. and bookmark. It is not possible to navigate by 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes etc. ?within the actual music? file. Or indeed jump to a particular time.

This is less of an issue with a pop track only 3 minute long I appreciate, but it is a big issue if you are trying to study a 25 minute classical movement track with instructions to? analyse particular sections.

The workaround I know is to treat these music pieces as Audio Books but I think ?a Symphony should really be part ?of Music functionality.

?

  1. The return of Trak and artist information using the 5 key on Internet? Radio Streams as was possible with the VR Trek, I am not sure about the? VR2. I appreciate that not all stations include this information in their feeds, but on several stations, using the VR Trek, you can establish track and artist information using the 5 key whilst listening to the Station. I found this extremely useful. I am not sure why this useful feature was dropped for the Stream 3 but it would great if this feature on the Trek could be ported back into the Stream 3.
  2. Many thanks.

We already have some things in the works, of course, but I like to keep my finger on the pulse of what you all would like to see to better inform our roadmap.

It can be something as big as a new service (like TuneIn, for example), or a small as an improvement to a feature (having the ability to use categories in notes, for example, although this last one is already being worked on!)

Well, I thank you; and I will change the notification to just the bong;? if you are afraid bongs will interrupt a vital recording, you can turn off downloads of podcasts until a later time, of course.

When the podcasts come in, the reading of the author and the title is long and it interrupts what is going on at present.? I'd love to see the announcement of new podcasts limisted to just a beep or perhaps the feature to leave it turned on or turn the announcements off.

Yes, it would be good to have a way to listen to rnib and calibre books on the new stream, now it has bluetooth, the stream is very useful and has a lot to offer.

I would like to see a toggle to turn on or off the announcement of podcasts landing in the play list.? If I'm listening to something after adding a feed, they come in pretty thick and fast, and are very intrusive.

Just a thought.

Hi,

No existing Daisy player does this yet, but I’d love to see the Stream allow you to cast to other devices, using Chromecast, for example. Even better, UPNP, which could allow even more speakers to be cast to.
