D rats and e mail. 10
hello everyone. I am new to getting started with Drats here and I have a question regarding the e mail feature with winlink. is there any way when you send a message to the winlink servers with Drats that it can be received on the winlink express program? and if so, what are the right settings to make an e mail message go through.

SMTP gmail or otherwise on 0.3.9
Hi, l noticed GMail has cutoff unknown/unofficial? app access. I presume DRats is in that category. Does anyone have a nice free server they use successfully on DRats? Thank you. 73 Rory W4RJG

Using D-RATS software application with your radio
We have successfully used DRATS software running on laptops connected to IC-91 and ID-51 (using the RTSystems orange cable) radio-to-radio.. It works and the software is excellent. Now I want that software for my smart phone. Anyone working on that? ref: www.midgadata.lumasis.net

Using D-RATS with your radio 6
The RT Systems blue cable with a 3.5mm phone plug is a cloning cable and can not be used with D-RATS. The RT Systems orange cable with a 2.5mm phone plug is a data cable and allows access to the low speed data channel. Instructions for setting up an ID-880 and building your own data cable can be found here. The radio settings are similar to most iCOM radios. You have a choice of 4800 or 9600 for the port speed. The only exception is ID-91AD and ID-92AD are fixed at 38400, and the ID-1 is 19200. Consult the Low Speed Data section of the instruction manual for your radio for more details.

D-Rats Internet Mail "Via" with Attachment
We have noticed an issue with our setup here with D-Rats email to an internet address. Our emphasis is on using the "via" function in D-Rats email to simulate sending internet email when your own station does not have an internet connection. We do this either by forwarding via another station that is connected or via our full time mail server (which is basically just another station that has an internet connection and is always on the radio standing by). This setup works really well, except for email attachments. Whenever we attempt to send email with any kind of attachment no matter how small or simple, the program seems to fail in sending. If it does manage to send, the attachment has been present on the receiving end but can't be opened (although it appears to be the right size file and right filename). Sending email station to station without internet all is fine. Attachments, although slow, work OK. (FWIW...we find it easier to send the file using the FTP/D-Rats Shared feature). Anybody else notice this? We are wondering if this is something in our local implementation of D-Rats and mail server. Thanks.

D-rats not keying ID-51A 5
Since most of the RT Systems cables are pretty much proprietary, I would try a basic cable and see what happens. That is about the only thing you haven't tried. Mick - W7CAT

D-rats not keying ID-51A 20
Hey all: Just getting setup for d-rats. I am using the 51a radio, using the "orange" RT Systems cable. I have the following set correctly in my radio; GPS TX Mode = OFF, GPS Auto TX = OFF, DV Data TX = Auto and baud set to 9600. I have set up (in d-rats) the 51a radio in the Preferences/Radio tab using Com 3 and baud of 9600. When I start d-rats it shows connected to the 51a. However I cannot get it to transmit when I ping a callsign (ping station feature) or use ping "all stations" to start a conversation. The 51a is selected in the dropdown selection of radios to use, left of send line/button. I realize other station(s) has to be in the "stations" list in order to chat with them first. So where am I going wrong and how do I get other stations propagated into the "stations" section and why will my radio not key up? Thx n5gqb Sly

AGWPE on repeaters
I have created a PR for my fork that adds the missing radio types to the repeater. I don't have a way to test these. https://github.com/wb8tyw/D-Rats/pull/209 73, -John

AGWPE on repeaters
Hello Patrick, I was just looking at the D-Rats repeater code. You are right, there does not seem to be any code in it to support AGWPE, so it is not using entirely common code as other types are called out in the code. I am not sure how hard it will be to add in the support, and I will not be able to test it. I have filed a ticket: https://github.com/wb8tyw/D-Rats/issues/204 to track the issue. 73, -John

AGWPE on repeaters (was: Anyone know what Request Mail Check is supposed to do?_
Hello Patrick, I think Rod, ka5mye was able to get that AGWPE with my python3 fork to work on the client. As near as I can tell, the repeater code uses the same code as the client application, so it should work. I don't recall making any specific bug fixes to the AGWPE code. I fixed the endian specification to make it clear it was little-endian instead of network-endian, but that should not affect a Microsoft Windows platform. I updated the d-rats code and header files to actually match the AGWPE documentation, again, that should not have changed how it worked. So you can try it with fork, and if it does not work, then adding some logging calls may be needed to diagnose what is going wrong. 73, -John

Anyone know what Request Mail Check is supposed to do? 8
Hello All, This weekend I tried the "Request Mail Check" on the side pane for stations that have been heard or are otherwise known to d-rats. Does anyone know what this feature is supposed to do? The existing code does not work for many reasons, so in order to make it work, I need to know what it was intended to do. https://github.com/wb8tyw/D-Rats/issues/195 73, -John wb8tyw

Is anyone using d-rats with agwpe? 5
Hello All, Just curious if anyone is using agwpe connections with D-Rats? AGWPE is SV2AGW Protocol Engine, the part that d-rats uses is a TCP/IP server that runs on Windows and converts TCP/IP data to a software TNC using the sound card. I can not fully test the fixes needed for that module, so I am using a simulator to simulate an agwpe port enough to validate the logic. Not only do I need to make the python3 changes, I also need to fix some existing issues to be compatible with the official documentation at https://www.sv2agw.com/downloads/develop.zip . 73, -John

Connecting multiple D-STAR repeaters or D-RATS systems together. 2
I'm trying to put this together in my head in a way that will make sense to me. If I have multiple D-STAR repeater sites, what are my options for linking users on all of these sites together using D-RATS without using the Internet? Would I be using individual D-RATS servers at each site and then linking them together or would I be trying to provide a connection from each site back to a single D-RATS server? I can see using TCP/IP over a microwave link but is there a way to use D-STAR itself? Can I use, say the 1.2GHz data modules, to link between the sites? 73, Eric WG3K Sent with Proton Mail secure email.

Question re: maps in D-Rats 0.3.9 5
Hi, folks, I'm having trouble getting maps to display in my new (and first) D-Rats installation. I'm running D-Rats 0.3.9, which by default creates the D-Rats map subfolder as c:/users/user1/AppData/Roaming/D-RATS-EV/maps. I extracted a zip-compressed map tiles file to that folder, which created a series of subfolders numbered zero through 17, and further subfolders until you drill down to the individual .PNG files. In the D-Rats settings, the config file shows that the base map storage path is c:/users/user1/AppData/Roaming/D-RATS-EV/maps. But in the maps configuration setting, the setting for the base map is a tile server (the default tile server is https://tile.openstreetmap.de). It seems to me that after extracting the zip file containing the map tiles to the maps subfolder under D-RATS-EV, D-Rats still doesn't know where to find or use them, and I don't know how to change the configuration settings so that my D-Rats installation knows where to find them. I must be missing something and don't know what it is. Appreciate any guidance you can offer. Regards, Charles
