D rats and e mail.

hello everyone. I am new to getting started with Drats here and I have a question regarding the e mail feature with winlink. is there any way when you send a message to the winlink servers with Drats that it can be received on the winlink express program? and if so, what are the right settings to make an e mail message go through.

Please make sure you make a separate email account for use with D-RATS. If you use your normal email address D-RATS will become bogged down with your every day email traffic. I made a google account with my call and rat@gmail.

I am not using an external e mail I am just using the winlink e mail but when I send an e mail to another user using the winlink address in Drats, they don't see it if they are using winlink express.

Heather,

Are you using the full email address in the “To:” field? For example, something like “W1AW@ gmail.com”, vs just “W1AW”?

I have been successful in sending Winlink messages using D-RATS, but I’d have to go check my settings in order to make more intelligent suggestions.

When sending an email through Winlink using D-Rats you must have //WL2K as the first thing in the subject line.??It is not enough to have their callsign@....??The //WL2K lets the Winlink system differentiate the message from spam emails.??Without it, the message will not be forwarded.

I have done that but for some reason it still doesn;t show up on their side if they are using winlink express.? do I need to add anything to the path on the message?

Heather,

Another poster put this in a more recent thread. Try the recommendations and see if that helps you.

Begin paste:

Use D-RATS version 0.3.9. ?The original 0.3.3 does not work with Winlink due to Winlink now requiring password.?

Here’s the instructions I sent them:

If you have not sent DRATS message (email) traffic to Winlink, there's some configuration setup work you will need to do beforehand. ??

There's a good write up here:

Remember when sending via WL2K these important points:
  1. Choose?New==>email? (only works for "email" selection)
  2. Address to must begin with WL2K: then immediately followed by a call sign or email address. (e.g., WL2K:n7grb@...)
  3. Post (send) to outbox, then select?Send/Receive==>WL2K

Glen, thanks for the post. I think that is a part of the issue I am dealing with. I have Drats 0.3.9 currently. under the 64 bit version. with winlink now requiring a password. does that have to be entered into Drats for it to send the message through?

Yes, your winlink password must be added into D-Rats.??Go to Preferences and drop down to the Messages tab and you will see the location where you put in your password on a line that is about at the center of the page.??In order to do anything in Winlink now, your software has to log onto their system with your user name (callsign) and your password.??

Use "WL2K:” before the address you are sending the message to and //WL2K on the subject line before the Subject and it should go out.??Another issue you might run into is you must have kept the account active.??If you have not used Winlink in over a year, it is possible that your callsign was purged from the system.??This even happened to the National Hurricane Center WX4NHC a few years back.??And finally, Winlink is only working in D-rats by Telnet at this time, so messages will not go out if you do not have an Internet connection.??I am not sure if you can use the Send Via command to try to send it through another station that still has its Internet working.??If the Internet goes down, as it often does during the many hurricanes we get down here in Louisiana, we are always prepared to send the messages over the air via either Packet or HF using another radio system and our EOC’s are so equipped.
