MAPPING SOFTWARE/STATIC MAPS
4
Hello: I wondered what software or static maps people are using for when WiFi is not available. I am aware that with Google maps you can download a map of the area you are in assuming there is cell coverage/availability or wifi. But in an emergency that won't be likely. Has anyone found a mapping software that will work with D-RATS? It would be nice to utilize this for both the ID-51A & ID-5100A radios. Thank you for your assistance. 73 Glen KB1DNI

Excessive QSTs
3
I have a noticed an increase in the amount of un-necessary QSTs on the Public Ratflector. It has come to the point where it is difficult to have a conversation with someone without being interrupted by unattended stations sending bulletins that have no value. I have resorted to filtering them out in order to keep my screen clear. If you need to keep your internet connection alive, simply send a location report every ten minutes. It will not print any text in the chat window. Please keep all other QSTs to a minimum (I don't need to know the temperature at your location). If your station is unattended, please set your status to Unattended using the selection box in the lower-right corner below the Stations list. Thank you in advance, de Patrick (N3TSZ)

Is AMBE chip needed for D-RATS?
9
From what I can see, the AMBE chip is only needed for Digital Voice mode. If that is really the case, it should be possible to build a D-RATs/Digital mode adapter for existing FM gear usign a GMSK modem. I have not found any information on the Wild Wild Web for such a project though. Any one know of any? Regards, -John

D-RATS Download
7
I am trying to download the program <d-rats-daily-02232012-installer.exe> from the files section on here and have been unsuccessful. I thought maybe it was a computer trouble of some sort so I changed computers and found that it does not download to any of them. Is there another source to grab a copy of the program? 73 de w8nsi/nnn0uzw jim

Common DRAT Reflector URL - Slight Tweak
2
Ed, great job on the list. I think this will be very helpful. Would you mind changing the Legacy Host Address on Paulding County’s ratflector to d-rats.pauldingares.com? That domain is working now, but the IP address you have listed will be changing soon. I see you have a common domain name for all ratflectors listed in the Address column. Is that something you are setting up for each ratflector? If so, I will need to get you our new ip address once I have our ratflector in its permanent home. Thanks for doing this. Great job! Domain name issues
OK...well I have got the D-Rat repeater application running on the local host and from another machine, I can communicate with the repeater via the internet ip address. However, when I attempt to use my domain name with DDNS service, it will not connect. If I ping the domain name, it replies with the DDNS ip address. If I issue an NSLOOKUP command, it reflects the DDNS ip address that is associated with the domain name. All appears the it should be working but, the D-Rats app cannot connect via the domain name. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you, Doug WB4CDH

Neep help setting up a ratflector...please!!!
16
Hello, I have attempted to follow the online instructions but I guess I'm missing something. I have a domain registered to use, I have my IP addresses and I have my port 9000 opened for both TCP and UDP in the computer where the application will run and through the modem. It just will not connect and run. I am sure I am making a mistake but the online information isn't very detailed. Can anyone please help me? Thanks, Doug WB4CDH

File > Connected to Internet
What is the File> Connected to Internet for? I can click on it and a check mark appears next to it and if I close Files and open again the check mark is there and if I click on Connected to Internet the check mark goes away. It does not seem to be an indicator that I am connected to the rat reflector. Any info appreciated, 73 de rolan w3fdk

D-RATS RF Access Point [2 Attachments]
2
Hi Patrick, This isn't directly related but you might want to think about putting a VNC server (i use TightVNC) on that box so that when it's at the site - or even still at home you can have remote GUI access to the computer. (Unless you're already running an ssh server.) :-) Is port 7322 used by Wires-X? Best regards, Stan N3KDA

D-RATS RF Access Point

Lubuntu is very nice and light weight. For me, Lubuntu was lacking some functionality but Xubuntu covered them and was still pretty light. If you like eye-candy and your computer has a somewhat modern 3D video card, Mint is nice as well. I don't remember D-rats offering an init script to start things so you can just add the running of the program at the end of the /etc/init.d/rc.local file curious.. is it specifically not working? Is the communications between D-RATS to Fldigi unstable? Is D-RATS over HF not robust enough? Are you talking about Yaseu System Fusion Wires-X? If so, it's well covered in the Yaesu HRI200 manual. --David

New to D-Star and D-Rats (and actually to this hobby)
11
Hi, A few days ago I purchased my first real HT iCom ID 31A. It took me a while to get it working but now I am able to configure local CQ on our YYZ repeater or connect to some reflectors in USA. All good. One of the reasons I purchased D-Star was that I would have ability to send a message to and from the radio, just like Yaesu can with its APRS. The idea is that when my cell phone dies I can send a message to my fried's email account and he is not a ham operator (does not have a radio). I have installed D-Rats today but I can not figure out how to do it. I can see that I can send and receive messages from some stations and I have chatted with someone who advised me to join this group. He also mentioned that I need a programming cable, well I do not need to send messages to the radio when it is connected to my computer. The idea is to have a computer at home and radio in the field with no cable in between. At this point I am thinking that this is not possible and my first clue is a simple fact that my new radio does not have a keyboard! Please let me know what my options are. Thank you! Tom P.S. I have looked at Winlink option for emergency communication but the size of the equipment and different opinions of winlink forum members deterred me from HF for a while.

Won't Send email to WL2K via RF Packet
15
Moving this topic over from the D-Rats Training thread... The gear I have: IC-880H, TNC-X, Mac Host, D-rats client. Brief re-statement of the problem, D-rats fails to Send email via WL2K using RF with TNC-X. I have double checked everything: Active Winlink account, mail via internet through WL2K works fine, proper pre-fixes on To: and Subject: With the radio tuned to the closest Winlink station, I do decode their announcement "Winlink 2000 RMS Packet Station - Kensington, CA." This confirms at least that the TNC can receive, decode, and pass the bytes up to D-Rats for display on the Chat window. When I compose an email, with the appropriate To:WL2K:email@" and Subject:"//Wl2K R/ foo", hit Send then again Send/Rec -- NOTHING happens. I have also turned off my Tx Blocking, Squelch up -- still nada... I think this is the crux of the problem -- no indication of a transmission of any kind. I'm thinking that once I hit Send/Rec D-Rats should attempt a connection to the RMS station but there is zero indication it is even trying. I do know the radio does transmit automatic GPS-A messages, I do know that I can transmit via chat on FM with the TNC. D-rats just does not want to give the RMS station a try. I have the Radio setting as follows, the Driver as noted by D-rats looks odd to me. Radio: TNC AX.25 ON Port -> tnc-ax25:/dev/cu/usbserial-FTXXUK9J:0: 1200 Raw Text ON I tried 1200 both 9600 baud, I tried the cu. and tty. driver versions. What strikes me odd is the Port numbering at the end of the drive ...9J:0:, that :0: bothers me, although receive works hearing the RMS station. Just looks funny. I did see a posting where someone using a RPI had to delete an extra colon in on eof the D-RATS hidden config files. Any ideas? If anyone out there has a MAC + TNC-X RF/WL2K working I'd love to know how you have that set up. 73 ron
