D-RATS and Soundmodem

I have to also ask.? "Why not HF packet?"? Same symbol rate and easy to implement.? The throughput is better than you might imagine. Here's one reason why: multiple decodersWhen you begin testing on HF, let me know.? I am happy to be of help. -- Mitch Winkle ...How long will you go limping between two different opinions? Hi Mitch,
Thank for your response. You make some good points. The reason I have been focused on PSK and other modes for HF is mostly because of the negative reports I have read about the reliability of HF packet. Some of the APRS folks go on and on about "retries from hell". But now that the latest software has multiple decoders available, it may worth giving 300 baud AFSK another look. (I try to avoid using the word "packet" when talking about D-RATS.) When I get my HF station going again, I'll send out an invitation to try D-RATS on HF again. Thanks de, Patrick (N3TSZ) |

HF packet is very reliable, and with a good modem like UZ7HO or Direwolf, it's terrific. I can always be found on 10.141.6 USB (10145 for those who insist on LSB) 300 baud AFSK 1600/1800 (1700 center obviously).? Always happy to experiment and move around the bands.-- Mitch Winkle ...How long will you go limping between two different opinions? Well, that was easy.? I am online with D-RATS HF AFSK 300 baud. I used the KISS TNC option in the D-RATS setup, and linked Direwolf via it's KISS TCP4 linkage using socat.? Obviously, this is run as root or by using "sudo".socat -d -d PTY,link=/root/d-rats,raw,echo=0 TCP4: & Then in the D-RATS Radio config: Add a new radio and give it a name. Type = TNC Serial Port=/root/d-rats Baud Rate=9600 TNC Port=0 AX.25 Enabled= Digi Path= -- Mitch Winkle ...How long will you go limping between two different opinions? 开云体育Patrick, ? ?Thanks for all the info that you send out and all in your files section. I will say that I have been involved with HF Packet since the 1980's on Network 105 ..14.105 lsb 300 baud and it works Great...we have a large group that have HF/VHF gateways and all are message drops and keybrd to keybrd. I and several others have our BPQ 32 switches running there and other frequencies as well. In the beginning it was all hardware TNC, s now more and more are moving to UZ7HO modem and it works Fantastic. I run dual ports with UZ7HO on HF. ? ? With the collisions that happen with heavy traffic and HF propagation I can see the retry issue..We see very little of that on Network 105...(see network105 yahoo group) ? ? We have done work here in the Atlanta Metro Area with D-Rats on VHF Packet and FlDigi bpsk 250. The only issue is if you have many connected on RF you can see issues with missed comments.? ? ?
