GMail SMTP no longer works, where to go?

Dave Slotter, W3DJS All Messages By This Member #2400 GMail has changed its authentication mechanism (quite some time ago -- years) but it is possible to use an application?key/password to authenticate against GMail in these cases, but the software has to support it. I think you can do that without having to pay anything, but I am a Microsoft Office 365 subscriber.? I just tested it before writing this and it is working.? Basically, Google has placed restrictions on the use of Gmail connections from what they consider “unsecure” programs.? Even though we are using passwords, we may be picking up and relaying mail from other hams.? One of the features in D-Rats allows you, when your station has lost Internet connectivity, to do a mail check through another station.? This basically passes your credentials through the other station to use their Internet connection to check your email account.? Anyway, Google used to allow you to turn the feature off but would go back and reset the thing a few days later breaking the system again.? The D-Rats settings are as follows: Under Outgoing Mail click to Enable SMTP Port & Mode = 589 and check the box next to TLS Server = outlook.office365.com ? Under the Email Server Tab: Use SSL – click Enabled Port = 995 Action = Forms Click on Enabled at bottom of popup box.? Hit Okay and then Save. ? Glen – KG5CEN ?

Glen Strecker All Messages By This Member #2431 开云体育 The Outlook account can send and receive emails from normal email addresses and can also be used to send messages into the Winlink system but you have to do a few special things in order to get the Winlink system to accept the messages. ? On the To: line start with “wl2k:” followed by the address you are sending the message to and on the Subject: line you have to start with WL2K//.? Remember to make sure not to send any commercial items in the message or they will be rejected by Winlink.? So, no adds of any sort are allowed. ? Glen – KG5CEN
Michael Mandell All Messages By This Member #2455 D-Rats can send/ receive POP/SMTP mail using an Outlook or other account just like any mail client. It is advisable to have an exclusive address (free) for just D-Rats. Reason is if you are trying to do some of the more advanced mail stuff in D-Rats (like forwarding internet email through a relay or mail server) you will not receive your messages if you are using that account on something like a phone that polls for email all the time. POP/SMTP, for those of us who have been around awhile, pulls the mail off the server. It's gone. If you check it with D-Rats, it won't be there. Yeah, there are some tweaks you can make to avoid this but for practical purposes, make an account just for D-Rats. Then you can open D-Rats and use that just like an old email client similar to a 25 year old client.?
