Where to find serial number on Postal Van? 5
Does anyone know where to find the serial number on a postal van? I have heard it is stamped on the frame somewhere, however I can't seem to find where. Thanks, Harry

New guy 20
My name is Neil l live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. I just purchased a 1980 Blue Comuta car in amazing shape, other than it needs new batteries. I purchased it at an estate auction in Edmonton, Alberta. It was only there for 2 years, it appears to have spent the previous 38 years with 1 owner in Portland. it¡¯s currently parked in my garage, everything is on hold until I get it licenced. It has an upgraded controller, uses 10 6 volt batteries. I am still sorting a few things out. Thanks for now. Neil

MOTORS 2
Have reworked mine and now Harry's spare motor. It was great and was fun but not great fun. i located a source of these 10 spline motors CHEAP. they are used take outs and I can do new brushes and commutator stuff and clean and paint them for c cars for maybe $100 + shipping if anyone is interested I have a triup monday back up by that guy in NC for monday. I plan on getting a dozen or so thru the summer also seems that Etek aka Briggs and stratton has a 10 spline substitute motor that looks to be a bolt on replacememnt for these. its a PM (Permanent Magnet) motor meaning no stator winding or connects just the two armature leads, 12HP $325 new heres a link to them on evparts http://www.evparts.com/shopping/product_details.php?code=MT1214 check about the bolt on before buying

Wheel Lug Nuts 2
C-car Group, Looking for leads on replacement wheel lug nuts. I 'happened' to sheer off four. ok, the wheel was rust/welded on, so i cut off the lugs to get the wheel off. I searched the archives but found no discovered stock numbers. My local trailer and golf cart stores struck out. Before i drive an hour to a big golf cart store, i thought i'd see if anyone solved the riddle on lug replacements. Currently, working off three wheels!! Happy New Year. Volt module use, source details, Dakota Lithium 2
Hi Tyler and All, A Volt pack comes 3 size modules only one of which is a multiple of 48vdc , 4kwh sections of 48vdc. The other 2 are 5 and 7kwh . But they have a 24vdc part so you'd need say 2 5kwh or a 5 and a 7 kwh. The other option is separating the modules and that isn't easy, etc. So you'd need 2 4kwh or 2 of the other modules. Or say use the 4 an 5kwh and just not use the 24vdc section. Cheapest is buying from a junk yard and dealing with it yourself. Next is buying from someone who does. For instance I sell them for about $175/kwh which is cheaper than premium lead and I deal with everything, the extra modules, etc. If a Fastenal store near you shipping is reasonable. Since these are high output you could get by with a 4kwh and make the ccar very light as only weighs 100lbs or 25lb/kwh, saving saving 400-600lbs depending on model.. Do that to start and see if you need more. Ebay or anywhere you find them as surplus , even people who set them up with a BMS is available. 'Hybrid Auto EV batteries' might bring up a source. I'm sure there are lots of sources by now. I just thought of something. Using say a 5kwh module use the 24vdc section for first speed then switch to the parallel 48vdc sections which you'll mostly drive in so you won't need an E controller. Just rewire the existing contactors, pedal contacts to either instead of series/parallel. I don't have stock at the moment, sold out but can usually get a pack in a short while. I do have a 4kwh that might be available if my new to me 2 days ago 95 S-10 EV conversion works with the new pack I'm putting in of 48kwh of Bolt modules for 200+ mile range. ;^) It generally takes 2wks to a month from order. Time to go wire, secure the Bolt modules in and give it a test try. Jerry Dycus.

Got to sell my 78 Citi-car?? Baltimore MD 4
For the records, someone is looking at my 1978 citi-car that I mentioned a week or so ago. I bushwacked it out of the weeds and if he decides to take it, then it looks like there might be promise of another citi-car recovered. We will get you the VIN when appropriate. I have had it since about 1980 and it may already be listed on the citi-car list under my name?: - Bruninga. Bob

Dakota Lithium 3
C-Car group... I'm new to the group and have been reviewing the discussions on "used" Volt/Leaf battery packs. Question: Is there an opinion of using Lithium batteries (Dakota) instead of the Volt/Leaf battery packs... This is a great group and I'm looking forward to additional conversations. Thanks! 1981 Commuta 72 volt postal van for sale
This is a used 1981 Commuta 72 volt postal van. I have a Florida title for the postal van in the name of the previous owner. It has a twelve horsepower GE motor to a three speed manual transmission. This is a used vehicle and can be considered a project car. Current mileage is 38.6 miles, so it has hardly been driven. I have verified the drive train is in good working order by connecting batteries to the motor and running through all gears while the van was on jack stands. You will need to add a full complement of new batteries and a control system. The postal van comes with Michelin radial tires with less than 2 miles on them. The postal van also comes with the original Lester Model 9840 battery charger. Manuals for the vehicle are available on the C-Car group website or I can provide them on a USB stick. I have owned this car for about 12 years and realize I do not have the time and energy to do a proper restoration of the vehicle. I have removed the postal service decals from the vehicle and repaired any damaged body work. It has been completely repainted white. Some body panels were removed or disassembled to properly paint the vehicle and these need to be reinstalled. If you would like photos or have questions please email Me The asking price is $1200. If you would like to schedule an appointment to come view the car, arrangements can be made. I am located in Salisbury, NC, midway between Winston-Salem and Charlotte just minutes off of I-85. This is a pick up item only or you arrange for shipment. I recommend using an enclosed trailer. Vehicle does not have warranty.

Body repair, was got to sell my 78 Citi-car?? Baltimore MD 6
Hi ? and All, That is some extensive damage. The front isn't available so what I'd do is take a piece of FG, alum or SS and make a stripe with it from the bumper to the windshield wide enough and glue it with 3M 5200 or other suitable glue, epoxy. The other pieces I'd make a ply/wood backing, glue in and fill in with FG and fair, paint the whole car. Or make a FG piece and butt block glue it in, fair. These would be the fastest, lowest cost ways. Some of the other panels are available , just not the front. The original contactor set up works well and has the power you need a 800amp electronic controller to match. And they are rebuildable if needed. Not a bad idea to buy some spare contacts ahead of time. A group buy might be in order to get quantity price. You might want to change the motor brushes and maybe brush holder as the brush leads get weak with age. And clean the commutator then break the brushes in. Since in there might as well replace the bearing and have a near new motor. All up only $100 in parts and a couple hrs including R+R. You'll have significantly better performance with used EV lithium batteries,. especially Volt, other LG cell modules, not Leaf. And if shopped well or buy a Volt pack, as cheap as new lead just 30% of the weight. With the lighter weight an E controller can be smaller, 400-600amp. I'm not on the facebook list as many others are not so if someone wants could put this up there.. Ideally I would like to restore it to as close to original as possible as most of the originals electronics are still intact(have not tested them yet), but it does have some major body damage to the plastic. I included some photos below, but these are a couple weeks old from when I first got the car into my garage. I have since cleaned the entire outside and have moved on to cleaning the interior. I am already a part of the Facebook groups and this list.

AiLi Voltage Ammeter Current Meter 5
I still have not got final approval from the Provincial Government Insurance about plates for my 1980 Comutacar, but am still looking and planning projects. I saw some reference to these for various applications. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07FGFFHC6/?coliid=I25B19294SPSQF&colid=DFJEOMHHWTIK&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it I am looking at the 350 amp shunt, but with my 60 volt system I would be around 2200 AH¡¯s. The meter is rated at 999 AH¡¯s, would it work with a higher capacity? Hopefully, I explained my question thoroughly and am not asking too much too soon. Thanks again,
