Re: Brakes are utterly useless--how do I fix them? [1Attachment]
BobHenry, I have a brake pedal assembly, I will sell. Price is $10.00 plus shipping. I can send a pic if you want. Are you looking to replace the master cylinder with a original single reservoir or a

"I have a hood on my Citicar that I just Pop open to get to the wiring, master cylinder, battery etc." I'm wondering if you could post pictures of your hood opening? [C-Car] <C-Car@...>

Re: Brakes are utterly useless--how do I fix them?
Hi All, I suspect most of the rust was from the master cylinder--it was full of rusty brake fluid when I got the car. Ill check the brake lines as suggested, though. The one cylinder I tried to

Re: Brakes are utterly useless--how do I fix them?
Those brakes came from a Cessna light airplane.? I can't recall the model but it was one of the smallest planes Cessna made.? They are designed for one fairly gentle stop from perhaps 60 mph with a

Last I heard they were used for industrial carts. Like Taylor Dunn? Sent from my MetroPCS 4G LTE Android Device

Re: Brakes are utterly useless--how do I fix them?
I don't know where they got their disc brakes, but around that time I was working on a small prototype car and we used disc brakes that were designed for industrial machinery - stopping lathes and

The disks about 7 inches around and 1/4 inch thick. They cant take much thermal energy before overheating. Mine deffently cannot. I dont know if they could be used on an aircraft but I would not use

Re: Brakes are utterly useless--how do I fix them?
Now, from what I understand the disc brakes were some aircraft leftover? I've often thought that if it can stop a plane... Maybe the master was not sized properly to begin with from the drawing

Re: Brakes are utterly useless--how do I fix them?
If you have rusty brake fluid then your cylinders are most likely are pitted and need to be replaced. I've tried re-kitting honed brake cylinders since the 60's and never been satisfied with the

Re: Brakes are utterly useless--how do I fix them?
Ha, yeah, when I heard the term "lock them up" I knew something was different. The disks are awful and take forever to stop, they squeal untill you hit a bump that separates them from the disks. And

Re: Brakes are utterly useless--how do I fix them?
Sorry Nicholas! I thought you had a later model. My response applies to the later 4 drum setup. I've never worked with the disc brakes but I hear they are more sub standard than the 4 drum.

Re: Brakes are utterly useless--how do I fix them?
How do you adjust the brakes? Do all the cars have this need? Mine is a 76 with disks in the front. Do you need to adjust disks? Or only the drums. I am a little confused.? Sent from my MetroPCS 4G

Re: Brakes are utterly useless--how do I fix them?
When I adjust my brakes I get them all as close to equal as I can. Then I go make a few stops. If it's pulling a bit I tighten the side it pulls away from a notch or two till it brakes straight. Pedal

Re: Brakes are utterly useless--how do I fix them?
Hi all, thanks for the responses. I've bled them (of course). They all run free of bubbles (Except the one with the leaking cylinder), but the front brakes still have old rusty fluid in them, so I

I had to vacuum bleed mine. I couldn't get the air out. Hopefully the master you replaced was a dual one(AMC) not the older single style. The proportioning valve might be stuck. Mine was too. I had to

Mine is still missing the complete pedal and reseivor assembly so I really have troubles.? HOWEVER those of you having trouble bleeding the brakes might try gravity bleeding them. open the wheel

Re: Brakes are utterly useless--how do I fix them?
Best way I found is to use two people. The resivor is so small that you have to keep it toped off after 3 pumps of the brakes when flushing. Also put a old shirt around the?bottom of it. I spilled

I have the same problem. I replaced everything on all 4 wheels but I must have a bunch of air in the lines after trying to bleed them over and over. Mark 1977 Citicar Sent: Tuesday, April 16, 2019
