Re: Brakes are utterly useless--how do I fix them?

Hi All,

I suspect most of the rust was from the master cylinder--it was full of rusty brake fluid when I got the car. Ill check the brake lines as suggested, though.

The one cylinder I tried to rebuild didn't seem to be rusty inside--I think the leaking may be caused by the rubber that came bent out of shape.

Current plan:
  1. Flush brakes to get all the nasty old brake fluid out
  2. Gravity-bleed the brakes (might be able to do this at the same time as above)
  3. Inspect brake lines, hope they're all fine
  4. Replace rubber on the cylinder that'd leaking
  5. Bleed brakes some more
Seems like a system this simple shouldn't have so many possible issues, but it is an old car...
