shimming the saddle/carriage
Rebuilding this atlas of mine has been a steep learning curve but there is light at the end of the tunnel. The shims that were on the carriage/saddle were 10 thou at the back and 17 thou on the front. There was a lot of slop so decided to try and eliminate it. I have ended up with no shims at the back and 12 thou at the front. this has eliminated the slop down to between 1 and 2 thou both front and back and middle. What is bothering me is that i have reduced the back by 10 thou and the front by half that amount so have i introduced twist in the saddle / carriage . Also does the carriage need shims to protect surfaces.

Wanting to buy AXA 250-111 - wanting opinions on which brand
12
I am a total newbie learning his lathe. I found out from this group previously that the quick change to hold her that I would need for my atlas 10 inch Lathe would be an AXA 250–111. If I am remembering correctly I was given a link and found it on eBay. Question 1: I went to eBay and found various options and makers. Should I be concerned about the unit I buy being Bostar or Labworks, etc.? Question 2: Knurling tool - two types - which would you recommend? I see two options within the Bostar brand: A. a Bostar unit selling an 11 piece set where the knurling tool is a a 250-110 that has the knurling integrated on one end and says the unit, "Can also turn with bits up to 1/2." https://www.ebay.com/itm/281827797886 B. Bostar has a 10 piece set with its knurling attachment being a separate unit that fits into a 250-101: https://www.ebay.com/itm/283687065990 Merry Christmas!

Moving shop, Aqua Safe water treatment unit for Sale
With our new facility, we've upgraded our water treatment system... The boss has asked me to list it - Mods, it's not Atlas/Crafstman, so just advise if I should remove. This is an Aqua Safe WTS-30-AJ It's in very good condition, just removed a couple weeks ago - I was told to ask $800. Located Islip, NY I have a forklift to load it, though it is not heavy. (I'm about to pallet and shrink-wrap it too)

Hello. New Owner of Old Atlas Mill
7
?Hi, My name is Cliff and I was gifted an Atlas MF Mill. I’m still trying to learn more about the mill and because it’s missing a LOT of parts and others are broken, I’m trying to figure out if it can be made useable without spending a fortune. I’d like to end up with a “nice” mill, but i’m more interested in function than form. I have no interest in selling it. i want to use it. This is it, as received. I’m kind of happy a few parts were missing after lifting it into my truck bed…lol

Looking for Tooling for my Atlas/Craftsman 101.07403 Lathe
11
Hello! I am very new to the Atlas/Craftsman lathe in fact I picked up a lathe last weekend. I have not touched a lathe in 50 years so am a bit rusty with everything! I have ordered a couple of books to learn from to help bring me up to speed. It had no tooling with it and I am trying to find some I can purchase. The lathe I bought did come with a toolholder but nothing else. {see photo} Can someone direct me to where and what I should purchase to get started. Both Grizzly and Little Machine Shop have tool packages however I am not sure what would work for me. Can someone provide me with some direction? Thanks in advance. Joe

atlas 10" quick change tool post
42
hi all, The lathe i have came with a home made tool post that holds 4 toolbits at once. however to change between the 4 bits you have to turn the tool post round and some how get it back square i presume (im a complete newbie). there are 4 allen head bolts holding the tool bit in so i assume i would have to undo those and reset everything up if i wanted a different bit. All this to say what quick change toolpost with the dovetail holders would work and is it worth spending a couple of hundred pounds? many thanks Ben

Acessories for sale

Just checking, i have accessories left over from selling my lathe. My question is can i list them here for sale instead of Ebay? I saw the for sale forum and the last thing listed was in 2018. I just don’t want to cause problems.
