No. The 21x42 plate is pretty heavy (88 pounds) and it is just resting on top of the box. I could drill a few holes and fasten it, but I never had any reason to do so. I have a smaller lathe set up on

I have one of my lathes on top of a US General 42-inch tool box from Harbor Freight. I added a top that is 3/8" steel plate that covers the entire top of the lathe. The lathe is bolted to the steel

In my experience the link belts do not...and should not.... require more tension than the original belt. Are the pulleys worn and/or glazed? Is the link belt properly sized to mate well to the pulley?
