Joe Pieczinski, a great YouTube machinist with loads of skill has done that on a larger lathe, but it should work just fine unless you are trying to take 3/8 DOC. Here is the vid.

So I'm going to be doing some internal threading here in the next week or so hopefully.? initially I was thinking of running in reverse and start the cutting from down inside the bore and come out.?

I think I would drill a 3/16 clearance hole through the shaft while I had it apart so I could knock out the center with a long drift or piece of drill rod in the future. Newer centers used for
