Re: Allen key size for Craftsman 101 4 jaw chuck

I suggested a bit of quality time with a belt sander & 1/4" hex key.? Very few people make a hex key from scratch these days. :)

Did you need a receipt ? I broke one of those 1/4" drive socket adapters . I went to replace it? &? I was talking to a manager ( who had no idea where they were in his store ) he told me they had a 90 day warranty with the receipt .

Re: Allen key size for Craftsman 101 4 jaw chuck

Then you probably need a 15/64th . Good luck finding one at the usual sources. I tried to find one online, and no joy.?

You could try spending some quality time with a belt sander and a 1/4" hex key.

If the chuck is old, as you say, the socket may just be worn. Wrap a bit of foil around the key, and see if that feels better. It will give you an idea how much metal to remove if you modify a larger key, and may be enough to solve your problem.?

15/64 is the between one , I'd take the chuck to the store & see what fits . Isn't 1/4 " a bit small for a 6 " chuck ? My 4" 4 jaw takes a 1/4 , but the 5 & 6 take larger ones , I'm guessin their metric .? Is yours a original that came with the lathe , or is it a newer import ?

An Oreck XL010-0604 seems to work just fine. That's what was on it when I got it. Walmart has them for under $6 each.?

They probably won't last forever, but I can worry about that later. ;)?

Figured out the cord is two-wire, no ground, as is the in-line switch. Ohm meter says no continuity between the blades on the plug and the case of the motor, so should be more or less safe to plug it in. One of the brushes has broken loose from the spring, so it needs a set of brushes. 1/4x3/8" probably an inch long or so. Should be able to find some at Ace Hardware. Hope they have some other stuff, like a 3-wire inline switch...

Closest thing I can find to a J-3 is the J-35, and a new one runs around $5100.00. Seems like it should be a better fit than the Dumore TPGs, and maybe even the one Atlas made. Hope I'll get to find out.?

Yes, the switch is on the cord, a couple of feet from the TPG. Cord looks to be 15 or 20 feet long. May try to get that squared away today, if I can. Wife has been particularly sick the past couple of days, and has been needing constant care & attention. She was asleep when the TPG arrived, or I'd still be wondering what model it was. I've not gotten much sleep this week, myself. Finally crashed and burned about 7pm last night...
