Re: new guy - old 618
Thank you all for all your helpful comments. I really do appreciate the advice, I have taken the recommendations of not using heat near the gear for fear of annealing, and of not attempting to remove the thrust collar. When i looked at it without the gear on there it looks like that pin was ground in place, likely pressed in very tightly, either way I wouldn't want to mess with it unless it were absolutely necessary.
The gears came off, I used two razor blades as wedges and kept giving little love taps on them between the gear and the spacer, rolling around the circumference until it gave, then the gear and spacer came off easily. I think I'll try cleaning up the plain area of the screw just to the right of the left bearing really good with some scotchbrite and see if I can get the bearing to slide over it nicely. Or maybe running it as is with some thin oil for awhile will loosen it more, as it was froze, then tight tight, then to where it could be turned by hand, which i did, a lot of, adding oil every time, by now it's pretty smooth in rotation. This from doing nothing but adding oil and rotating, yet when I put a few drops of oil in, and turn it by hand awhile, the oil still comes out dark, maybe I need to flush this junk out a little? I hope most of what's running out is some kind of grease residue or graphite and not ground up bearing casting. |
Re: F-10 series lathe v-48
Like you, I needed the ability to install a third set of gears.? I found what looks like a brand new bold, nut, inner bushing and double keyway bushing on Ebay.? Make sure that you are getting one that is designed for your specific model lathe.? I have now used it.? I installed a set of the new 3D printed gears that I will probably leave them on the bushings and when I need the fine feed rates install it, otherwise it will rest in the drawer.

Do you suppose you could help me figure out what year my manual was published? I've made a brief comparison of the PDF and hard copies I've got and none are duplicates. My 1937 hard copy section seven is titled "ATLAS F-SERIES 10-INCH LATHES" and the pages are numbered one to 63. 开云体育Out of curiosity, what kind of dimensional tolerances to they quote for your printer?? However, after reading a few comments here I started to question my thinking. Thanks for making me question myself less. Hahaha!! ? As for removing the spindle, I tried exactly as you described over and over, with no success. No matter what I did, I just could not get the woodruff key to come up with pliers. Tapping it down to rock it out of the slot was the only thing that worked. And I needed to expose the whole key to do that. I read about that technique on this site somewhere, I’m pretty sure.
