Locked Eastern Phoebe 2
Eastern Phoebe seen today on the west edge of Willow, essentially straight out from the cottonwood peninsula to the edge of the lake. Seen at the top of the trees and also low down, bird was also singing. I suspect this is the same bird that was seen in the late fall. -- Sue Drown Prescott

Locked Leucistic Red-tailed Hawk at Camp Verde CBC
Sorry for the late posting: I had an almost completely white Red-tailed Hawk fly over me and land high up in a cottonwood tree in my CBC territory and the edge of the circle adjacent to Jackpot Ranch on the Yavapai Apach Reservation. Sorry for the rushed quality of the pics. It bolted 3 seconds after I aimed my iPhone camera at it! Rob Hunt, PhD

Locked Sightings Around Town
Today's morning outing, the annual Prescott Audubon start-the-year field trip, turned up a number of good birds. We had White-throated Sparrow along the Peavine, foraging with White-crowned Sparrows, near the power line marsh area. In the grassy field at Watson Lake Park, grazing with 70 Canada Geese, was one Greater White- fronted Goose, and flying over Willow and landing in the water was one Snow Goose. A juvenile. Also at Willow were the three Tundra Swans and the American White Pelican. -- Sue Drown Prescott

Locked Eastern Phoebe, Cassin's Vireo
Willow Creek near the quarry: Eastern Phoebe. South edge of cottonwood grove just east of dirt road that runs from Willow Lake Road and crosses creekbed to quarry. Around 11 AM. Cassin's Vireo. NE of the latter, closer to the lake along the old "road." Around 10:10 AM. Walt -- Walt Anderson

Locked white pelicans
There were 28 American White Pelicans soaring over Watson Woods south of the lake this morning at about 10:30 am. They seemed to head south. Steve Burk

Locked New yard bird! 2
At about 11 am I stepped outside and was accosted by the alarm squawks of 4 Stellar's Jay's. They were high in a large Ponderosa and looking down. I walked to an area where I could view the tree, and quickly saw the object of the Jays' ire--an adult Northern Goshawk! It hung around several minutes before flying southeast, perhaps not far, but beyond my view. It seemingly flew when it saw a camera, so no photos with it. I have a couple of cellphone photos which are marginal at best. Here is the better of the two. Karen O'Neil

Locked Pelican update
American White Pelican, N09, has now been in Prescott a full year. I am attaching a photo taken this morning at Watson Lake and my first photo showing its tag on Oct. 19, 2020. This pelican was a juvenile in the summer of 2020 when tagged in Idaho. Steve Burk

Locked Granite Basin
I took a quick run this morning to Granite Basin Lake. Best birds of the morning were three Townsend's Solitaires. They were singing (short phrase) songs and perched up at tree tips along the base of the mountain, viewed from the inlet side of the lake. Also of interest was a possible red naped x red-breasted sapsucker in the Willow Grove next to Playa parking area. This could be the same bird that was there last year perhaps. Not seen well enough this time, but good to look for. -- Sue Drown Prescott

Locked Golden-winged Warbler in Chino Valley
Just the messenger here. There was a Golden-winged Warbler photographed off of Outer Loop Road in Chino Valley a couple days ago. It might be good to keep an eye/ear open around areas like Watson Woods in case it's still around. Bryan Patrick

Locked Terns
Viewing two Caspian and one Common Tern from the south side of Willow Lake. Birds found by Laura Rhoden. They are resting on the stone island where the pelicans often hang out on the east side of the lake. Sue Drown -- Sue Drown Prescott

Locked Lewis's Woodpecker, south shore Lynx Lake
Around 4:45 PM, I was at the easternmost end of the parking lot at the south shore of Lynx Lake. A Lewis's Woodpecker flew in, and I had a brief look before it flew north across the inlet and perched. Dark green back, pink lower belly. When if flew, I noted its wings were dark both above and below, no wingbars or patches. Flight pattern was level, not swooping. It flew back and landed long enough for me to take a few photos, attached, and then flew off and I lost sight of it. Lots of other activity in the vicinity: Lesser Goldfinch, Chipping Sparrow, Western Bluebird, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Red-naped Sapsucker, White-breasted Nuthatch, Pygmy Nuthatch, Dark-eyed Junco, American Robin.

Locked Recent Arrivals - Willow Lake 2
Nothing truly rare to report, but I had some fun seasonal birds at Willow Lake South shore this morning. I've seen Lincoln's Sparrows in small groups recently, including 7 or 8 this morning. Two Bank Swallows were with a flock of about 50 Barn Swallows. And several Marsh Wrens perched up and scolding from the weeds. Sue Drown -- Sue Drown Prescott

Locked Yellow-billed Cuckoo
While not unusual in some parts of Yavapai county, I don't see any eBird records of Yellow-billed Cuckoo for Watson Woods. This morning I heard and then saw one in a big cottonwood tree in WW not far from where one takes the stairs down into the woods from the parking area off Sundog road. I only saw the underside of that large, paddle-like tail with the large white spots. It was only making its distinctive call very infrequently. Also, there continues to be a Chat calling along the Creek south of the wildlife pond. Steve Burk

Locked Red-necked Phalarope 3
A lone Red-necked Phalarope is working along the South shore of Willow Lake this morning, directly out from the South Willow pullout, straight across from the boat dock. Nice, full breeding plumage. -- Sue Drown Prescott

Locked Willets 5
This morning at Willow Lake, on the South shore was a flock of about 40 Willets. Unfortunately they were scared up by a photographer, and now they are on the very west shore, probably visible from the bulldog with a scope. -- Sue Drown Prescott
