The best way is to put the flat part on a piece of glass and put it in the oven at about 150 degrees for about 5 or 10 minutes, pull it out and check, if it has not flattened, put it back in for a few more minutes, repeat until flattened.
?I am assuming that the tender floor is flat on one side and has no protruding areas, if not, all bets are off and it will be difficult to flatten.? I would absolutely not use a heat gun.? Maybe hot water can help, but again not real hot water and immersing
multiple times.
I have done the oven procedure with Westerfield and F&C kits with very good success.? Resin is very subjective to warmth and I have seen totally distorted resin kits that have been stored in a non air-conditioned location, destroying the models.

I have a 4¡±long epoxy singlepiece tender floor frame casting that has a .030¡±dip in center using straightedge end to end on same side of floor I wish to straighten.Theres detail on floor and tender shell that would be damaged with contouring .Ive heard of using heat for plastics, don¡¯t know about resins and what sort of heat¡¯ ,heatgun, warm water boiling other methods. Re: Old Old HO camelback 0-4-0-can anyone identify this engine...the motor is vertically mounted?
Might be possible to put a really small gearbox in it. There is a British company called Hi Level that has a line of gearbox and motor combinations that can be customized to fit a variety of locomotives; even very small ones. Could be worth checking out.

Re: Old Old HO camelback 0-4-0-can anyone identify this engine...the motor is vertically mounted?
Thanks to every one who responded.? BTW...Sheet brass is the material...nothing on this loco was diecast..I gather from the responses the loco is most probably an "International ca. 1956..and maybe Aristocraft marketed the same
engine...I found International documentation on hoseeker for what looks like this engine and found nothing on Aristocraft's hoseeker documentation.? And Jeff Pellas found this loco on a Trainz auction site, International box and all....thanks again...It runs good..I'll use it as a train show demo "from the 50s" George "Tip" Galyon Olde Newburgh Model RR Club Walden, NY |

I found your locomotive on this auction site. If you go to this address, you'll see this loco with the box it came with. There is a picture of the bottom showing the vertically mounted worm.

Re: Old HO camelback 0-4-0-can anyone identify this engine...the motor is vertically mounted?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThis is definitely NOT a Mantua. And I have wo of them right here to prove it. It is, IMHO, an International. Someone, I believe Gem also had an early brass model but it did not have a vertical motor. I have two Gem B&O C16a¡¯s with very similar drives but I haven¡¯t been able to get them on the test track yet. The New One model had a longer, rather ungainly looking, cab. The first Mantua I had ran like clock. Smooth, quiet and it could sustain a slow enough speed to satisfy most slow speed switcher freaks like me. I got it out of the packing, bent the fireman¡¯s cab roof back up into position (happens easily in shipping on these) and placed it on the tracks. After maybe about a minute or two of running it ran way better than I expected. John Hagen ? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of George Galyon via Groups.Io ? Per your suggestion, I did find a 1956 International Catalogue in hoseeker with a "goat".? No exploded drawings available unfortunately.? However, odds are it is NOT a Mantua...International is a good bet.? It has a metal worm and worm gear so DCC is problematic...good runner though.? Thanks.? |

Re: Old Old HO camelback 0-4-0-can anyone identify this engine...the motor is vertically mounted?
I don't think this is a New One Model, they were diecast and this one looks like it is brass.? Both International and Aristocraft imported a brass 0-4-0 Camelback, maybe the same one, and I think that's what this is. John Bopp |

Re: Old Old HO camelback 0-4-0-can anyone identify this engine...the motor is vertically mounted?
Hello George , this loco is likely a New One . 3 things? to look at ? Mantua Goat tenders are held to their frames by screws that hold the shell to the frame . This one is clean ? The stack is tapered on the loco Mantuas are not . Last but not least Mantua mounted their maotors horizontal not vertical . Early made small locos mouted their motors vertical for simplicity and spce for clearances .Brass locos , LMB , GHC , early AHM ?? Hopes this helps some ?? ? Henry?

Re: Old Old HO camelback 0-4-0-can anyone identify this engine...the motor is vertically mounted?
I think that may be an old International brass import, from the late '50's/early '60's.??

Re: Replacing a brass frame on a Bowser H9s ??
Henry, Are the holes close, or way off? If close, a small round needle file can elongate the hole in question for a bit less effort (arguably) than making a new cover. I've had a couple of Bowser brass cover plates (my H9s models come to mind) where the holes were slightly off from where they should have been....perhaps an error in the stamping/cutting process?
