Initially I thought that the BPM of the QY100 was controlled by a single byte. It turns out it's actually controlled 2 bytes. This has led me to realize the BPM can be pushed much higher than originally thought. So far I've tested up to 1000BPM and it's functioning well. I will continue pushing higher in hopes of finding the upper limit. I already attempted hexadecimal FF FF (theoretically the highest value, equivalent to 65535BPM), however this value would not load into the device and resulted in a frozen load screen. So looks like I'll have to find the upper limit via trial and error. I've been exploring the code structure of the Yamaha QY100 and have found a bunch of hidden stuff in the code that's locked off in memory (not normally accessible by default). I'm working on developing .Q1P files (the QY100 Style file type) which are capable of overcoming many of the built in limitations of the device. So far I've found: Extendable Features - I've realized that the built-in BPM, measures, amongst other things are artificially capped in the hardware. Though it's actually possible to extend beyond these limitations. For instance you can load these .Q1P files onto your QY100 to have 16 measures, 24 measures, or even 32 measures, allowing you to build more complex songs. The BPM can also go as low as 4BPM and as high as 308BPM (not as exciting but I will release .Q1P files for this soon too). Hidden chords (One of which is featured in this pattern) - The QY100 has many built in chord structures, but I've found 100s that are normally not accessible. I haven't yet verified if all these hidden chords are unique but will be making them available little by little so others can try out. If you want to try one out now, download the linked .Q1P file and load it onto your QY100. Unused Patterns for Pattern Mode - There are a handful of unused patterns in the hardware which can be accessed by loading up specialized .Q1P files. I haven't released these yet but plan to in the near future. I've only went through about 10% of the QY100's code so far. So I'm excited and hopeful I can find more information to share with everyone so you can get the most out of your instrument. Additionally, if anyone out there would be willing to supply a Yamaha QY700 to me, it looks like the QY700 is coded much in the same way (from what I can tell from reading the manual online). If I had the device to perform testing on, I believe I can also find hidden content and features on that instrument as well and make them accessible for the community. Hey fellow QY freaks! I found myself without a manual for my QY100 and I hate reading computer screens, so I created A4 coil bound versions of the QY100 User Manual and Data List books on Lulu. I was so impressed by the quality I thought I'd make them available to anyone who needs them. There is zero profit from these - I don't own the IP. Well, I guess Lulu makes a profit from the printing... You can make your own versions too if you don't like mine (I just went with a plain colour for the covers) but I figured I'd share these if you don't have time. Hi, Updating this device (QY100) is a scary endeavour, if you've ever tried. I bricked mine while trying using the .MID file from JayB's site. but it was not the file, rather the tool. I ended up using the file on this forum. You'll mostly find that if you're on a Mac you will be directed to using Sysex Librarian as the tool of trade, to do this, but you will get errors during update this way. I had a Firmware version 1.04 and tried with the sysex librarian and other tools, including some sequencers. But all gave me errors or checksum errors during the process. So if you're on a mac and trying to get this file to work right, please give a try to MidiKit: https://apps.apple.com/mx/app/midikit/id626730591?l=en-GB&mt=12 Great little tool, honestly did the work flawlessly, which means this tool truly transmits sysex without modifying the message at all. Just set it to about 80bpm, and update, it'll take around 24 minutes, but it will update ok.

Hi all, Am I correct in thinking there is no way to use 2 QY70’s in a note overflow way? That is, that if the max polyphony is reached then the notes are sent on to the second unit. It doesn’t seem to be very common, but I know the Roland D-110 can do it. Regards, Andy

Hey all, got a qy70 recently that has freezing issues. Yes, i've replaced the internal coin battery with a fresh one and i've initiated a factory reset dozens of times and it still doesn't help. The freezing i'm trying to address seems like some sort of CPU hang up. Sometimes the QY70 starts up and works as normal but after a few minutes of noodling around or if I start pressing a bunch of buttons the unit will freeze and not recover. At other times the unit won't even start up and hangs up on the black QY70 screen without initializing all the way. At other times the display won't even turn on all the way, but will just flicker and not fully boot up. This leads me to believe that there is a power issue going on somewhere. Further, I've done all the tests suggested in the service manual and the only test that's off is the "power battery test". The manual says "this test checks the voltage of the power battery is less than 6.3 +/- .01V automatically. (measure point CPU's A/D Terminal)" (Note: i'm not sure what the CPU A/D terminal is, but i'm certain it's not referring to a DAC IC) When performing this test on my unit I am running at 7.3v, but i'm not sure what a power battery is. I saw power from the coin cell battery coming into the main CPU IC13 @ Pin 84 and it's drawing 3.3v which seems good. I started tracing down from the coin cell battery in general and how it connects to the main CPU and it's ROM and SRAM extensions and don't see any clearly visible busted capacitors. I guess i'm just asking for advice on next steps. I wouldn't mind attempting to re-cap this area, but i'm not even sure if this is the problem area! Again, my symptoms are that my QY70 passes every service test except the power battery, in which it runs hot. The unit turns on, all the buttons work, sometimes it boots up and functions for a bit, but always eventually freezes with enough time or if I press a bunch of buttons and overwhelm it. This leads me to believe it's a software processing flaw and it's getting hung up due to power irregularities. I'm not sure if i'm looking in the right spot though. I'll try to put together some photos for yall too

Hey group. I use a MIDI pickup equipped guitar+ Roland GP-10 guitar processor. To make a story short, the Roland module will output MIDI to the QY-100. Then the audio output of the QY-100 gets conveniently re-sent to an "aux-in" input in the back of the GP-10. So this ends-up combining the guitar tones of the GP-10 with the synth module output of the QY-100. My dilemma: I need the QY-100 audio volume level to be pedal controlled, (a volume pedal). What's the best way for me to get the audio output of the QY-100 to be volume-pedal controlled? CC with a MIDI pedal or controller-is it possible? FWIW, the output is likely going to end up amplified in mono, not stereo as I use a single powered PA speaker. Thanks for any suggestions. Toomanyplugs.

Hello all, Some time ago I deciphered the SysEx used in the famous Remote setup. Allegedly sending a message like: F0 43 7E 00 08 ss 7F F7 (where ss would be the number of section, between 08 and 0E) would cause QY70 to switch to the requested section. I tried it today with BCR 2000, but to no avail. Has anyone managed to achieve that? Cheers, Bruno

Hi - I'm able to use the Data Filer under Windows 10, but my PC is not my computer of choice, so I wanted to try and get the Data Filer running on my Mac (under Monterrey). The file attached on this site looked promising: QY DataFiler for MACOSX.zip Report File QY DataFiler for MACOSX But unfortunately, when opened that disk images generate the message "The disk you attached was not readable by this computer." Does anyone have access to or knowledge of a file that will load in Monterey? Also, is there an archive anywhere of the Q1P preset pattern files for the QY70? I'm interested in getting some of the missing presets onto my QY100. Cheers, Rocky

I just started playing around with Chord Templates on my QY100, and found the presets to be really useful for getting quick ideas. Is it possible to use more than one chord template in a recorded song? For instance, using one progression in the Main-A part and a different one in the Main-B? I know this can be done easily when playing back, but is it also possible to record the template changes for those sections? Thanks, Rocky
