Re: comparing RM1X and QY70/100
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýNever used a RM1X, but I know it allows to record patterns in real-time, something strongly needed on the qy series. However, no harmonic transposition on the RM1X. On Mar 14, 2021, at 10:40 AM, QYedit via groups.io <domgoold@...> wrote:

comparing RM1X and QY70/100
anyone out there have a RM1X as well as a QY70/100 ?
i wasn't looking at hardware when the RM1X was new, so it's a fairly recent discovery. similar concept, and XG also, with its own factory styles, more 'sections', etc etc it is making me focus more on 'phrases', which i've tended to overlook on the QY. |

Re: QY70 screen freezes
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýFirst thing I would do is open it up and check for battery leak. ?If so then a full cleaning with alcohol or contact cleaner (where appropriate).["The longest journey starts with the first step."?- Lao Tzu] On Mar 12, 2021, at 1:35 AM, marceloalejandrovarela@... wrote:

QY70 screen freezes
I have a trouble with my beloved QY70 , when i turn on the screen show short anim and freezes with QY70 logo, nothing more. I try reset with usual key combinations but only show a clear screen if i press reset buttons song+patt+>> even with other combination oct up +oct dwn + F1 nothing. I start to change the old caps but not all , only some.

revisit QY editor templates for Novation RemoteSL
like a lost mayan temple in the jungle, ... this came up today, with links for download.
waaaay back in ?2015? Eric delivered a prodigious RemoteSL mapping mega-multimix for the QY70/100 :-D it was not without some little flaws, but i can attest that it works - i don't know how many people tried it out at the time, and tbh the prospect of reworking and refining it at that point was a little bit overwhelming (!) (i went off and briefly examined the prospect of doing something in Ctrlr, and then went on a huge detour learning Lua scripting language/coding) i think it was done for mk1 RemoteSL (which i have, dual LCD screen seeming preferable). do any of you have a Novation RemoteSL ? (mk1) Eric, you pulled this, i think, at some point while the Yahoo group still existed. any reason why? do you have any objection to posting the links now? - i think it bears a revisit, for anyone with the courage haha i also picked up a RM1x not long after, so i shifted my attention to that a bit. and kinda burned out on programming anything, having to end Ctrlr programming abruptly to concentrate on pressing real-life matters, since which i seem to have lost the appetite for that kind of thing. :-/ the midiCC stuff is straightforward, but it got interesting with the sysex, and seeing what bits of the sequencer operation could be accessed - and then we found out the Styles could only be selected by SongSelect system message F3h, which is neither CC nor sysex, and not available on most controllers. AKAIK there is no RemoteSL template set for Yamaha XG out there. this 'Ultimate QY' set could be the basis for offshoots, using fewer than the *39* pages used? - ?curated responsibly in the files here? - if anyone has the stomach to re-examine and maybe come up with specific smaller templates for particular aspects of the whole - which is probably the most elaborate set of RemoteSL templates anyone has made, ever LOL i pulled my ZeroSLmk1 out for the first time in ages the other day, and it has something else on it now, but i don't mind loading it up again, with the *.blk file, and exporting individual pages. wish i was more organised and could provide a video or some evidence of it interacting with the QY. Eric? any thoughts? |

Re: Corrupted/scrambled QY100 LCD screen
Thanks Eric.?
Note this list does not include the two large radial pin 470 ?F (25v and 16v) caps since I had those on hand. Replacing those two alone did not fix the problem. |

Re: Corrupted/scrambled QY100 LCD screen
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI would start with the most obvious ones. ? and definitely practice on a junk circuitboard first¡ You do not need to replace them with surface mount capacitor¡¯s¡ Regular electrolytic capacitors work just as well and are easier¡ Just make sure to match the value and the polarity correctly.I have never done this myself but I have seen posts of it on other devices¡ I do have one that I could try but I am not sure if the problem is the capacitors or not, since one of the chips gets extremely warm after a few minutes¡ it does have a repeating pattern on the screen Sometimes, other times it¡¯s just blank. ? Since I have another one, ? for now I just keep it around in case I need extra parts.? Re: Corrupted/scrambled QY100 LCD screen
Hello, hello.
Yes, I am using a decent 12V DC adapter, not the 6V it came with. I left it plugged in to warm up (under a blanket for good measure), and after about an hour, the screen changed, still garbled but with some numbers in the corner. Not only that but it makes piano sounds when I play it! So, I'm wondering if this is another sign of capacitor plague: if the electrical properties change when the capacitors heat up, and then things start working. Does anybody know if the surface mount capacitors *all* need to go? There are so many. Thanks for joining me on this journey ?.? |

Re: Corrupted/scrambled QY100 LCD screen
To me it looks like a capacitor plaque issues... if you are lucky the offending capacitor could be obviously leaking/leaked or very warm to the touch... ?often there are no signs...sometimes one of the chips get really hot so touch those too to see if they get excessively warm... ? look for leaked caps first though.

Re: Corrupted/scrambled QY100 LCD screen
I tried the factory reset, with no luck. It's a low-level problem and the operating system is not booting.
Also, this QY100 shipped with a big 2 Amp DC adapter that only puts out 6 volts. Maybe this low voltage thing damaged the power regulator. Could I test that theory somehow? Here is a photo: |
