Best midi editor under win7 64bit for qy70
Hi guys,
Many thanks for setting this forum up. I had a dbxg50 on a turtle beach tahiti? sound card, a long time ago! I brought a qy70 last year for the sounds, I want to map midi controller to effects parameters etc, and would also like to run a midi editor on the big screen. I used to have XgEdit, however I have struggled to find it online. The copy I did find doesn't have a selection for qy. I wanted to ask the group how best to do this? Many thanks Regards Ian |
Re: Changing the pattern length that contain user phrases
QYedit and Eric,
thank you for the feedback. I don't understand why Yamaha left out the AB functionality in the QY100 it's simple to implement.? I thought about what everyone said and now I know the pattern length is fixed for user phrases I will put 1,2 and 4 bar phrases in the different sections of a pattern. In just a few days of experimenting with this it's working for me. In case this helps anyone else I found targeting specific notes totally locked down the timing. It's wonderful to be able to practice perfectly with this machine. When you play along to the phrase any errors are obvious and reducing the tempo and then gradually increasing it until the target is achieved will ensure perfect performance once the brain and muscles have learned.? |
Re: Changing the pattern length that contain user phrases
开云体育Unlike the QY700, the QY100 and QY70 only allow you to set the pattern length before adding any chords or notes. ? but as mentioned previously you can create a new pattern with a shorter length and copy into it from an existing pattern.Another possibility (that I have not tried) is to create the long pattern and then use song mode to switch patterns halfway through… I think you’d probably have to switch to a different pattern or it would just continue finishing the current pattern, but if you switch to another pattern halfway through a pattern it should switch immediately (by which I mean: at the end of the given measure). Using this technique could accomplish something similar you made a number of patterns that were all very short like one measure… you could use song mode to switch around all of the patterns at every measure… Not sure if that would actually help or not (for your use case) but it is a possibility I think. Re: Changing the pattern length that contain user phrases
am a bit out of practice so i can't remember exactly but you can set a different length for another style Section and either copy the track data into it, or use Put Phrase/Get Phrase chucking it over a Song mode track and back. in my case i wanted to extend a part, and managed to get it to copy out to the new longer length.

Changing the pattern length that contain user phrases
Greetings, I am working with some syncopated phrases and I put them into a pattern in the QY100 to turn it into a loop trainer because I don't think it has an AB function. I found that after I did that I could not change the pattern length so that I could focus on the first two bars of a four bar phrase for example. Is there a work around? Thank you. 开云体育You can find them on eBay for a good price. ?Olympus 32mb SmartMedia cards are probably the sweet spot as some larger SmartMedia cards *can* be a bit slower… though I’d probably still buy a 64mb or 128mb if the price was good (they are often cheaper than 32mb for some reason). Olympus is a good brand as well as most other well known brands like Fuji, Sandisk, etc. ?Prices of about $15 to $30 is average, but deals are easy to find if you buy a bundle of several used cards. You can also find them on Amazon as “new”, but since SmartMedia has not been made in a while, they may be fake brand name cards, though I got a couple of 32mb Olympus cards on Amazon a few years ago that seem very legit (included all the Olympus paperwork). Cards should be of the 3.3volt kind (5volt cards only come in 2mb and 4mb, so if it over 4mb in size, it is a 3.3volt card). Since the QY100only stores midi, 32mb is really quite huge. ?If I recall correctly, the QY100 has 256K of internal storage and that fits quite a few songs and patterns. ?A 32MB card is literally capable of storing 128 full QY100 backups. IMPORTANT: ALWAYS FORMAT THE CARD IN THE QY100, NOT ON A PC AS A PC CAN POTENTIALLY CORRUPT A SMARTMEDIA FORMAT. ? This is all by memory, but I think it’s right. Cheers,? Re: QY100 Data Backup USB Midi - solution
开云体育Fellow group members- I need a memory card for the QY-100. I’m new to this aspect of the sequencer. Feel free to leave suggestions as to:1. Which card is best as far as amount of storage and price 2. Where to find it online or in a store 3. How to effectively use it I appreciate this forum and our little Yamaha family. Thanks! Re: USB MIDI QY100 Data Backup
Thanks to ArKay and Rick for the feedback.
?
The best solution is to use a card reader that does not tamper with the data on it thus making the files unreadable to the QY100. Some people have had success with this but were vague on the?
exact details of the model. I was unable to find any information detailing a brand and model id that is safe to use and still in production. If anyone reading this knows of such a card reader
then please post a message with this information. It's the best solution because you can backup all of your data at once rather than having to work with a maximum of 18? songs at a time enforced
by the limits of the QY100 memory capacity. It's also a lot faster because you eliminate the QY100 and the Datafiler?software from the process saving the time required to load files from the card
into to the QY100 and then transfer them via the Datafiler?to the computer.
?
It's still best to back up the data before trying the card reader just in case of unforeseen problems. I would have just bought a better usb midi adapter but the pro models cost a lot and
ebay sellers of older models that people had used with success wanted a lot of money as well.?
?
I wondered if the problem had something to with the fact that during back up midi sysex message are used and the rate at which the data is exchanged might be faster than normal possibly leading to?
buffer overflow in the usb midi adapter. Backing up data from the QY100 to the computer worked but when I tested transferring files from the computer to the QY100 this did not work.
If this is the case then I figured that if there was a way to slow things down via software then it should solve the problem. If I understand correctly the free software I used: MIDI-OX & MIDI Yoke sit in between the?
computer and the QY100 and slow the message exchange rate down. MIDI-OX has an option to pause after the end of a sysex message (Delay after F7). The default settings worked for me. If you have problems
the user forum for MIDI-OX is active and the mods are intelligent and offer great responses to questions.?
?
The MIDI-OX website has all the information you need to learn about it so I leave it up to the reader to take advantage of that.
?
Here are the settings I used for MIDI-OX:
?
Open two instances of Midi-Ox. I saved these as the following profiles QY100 backup input.ini and QY100 backup output.ini
?
QY100 backup input.ini deals with USB-MIDI input port.
?
USB Audio Device is the name given to the usb midi adapter I used.
?
In Midi Devices, MIDI Inputs select USB Audio Device
In Midi Devices, MIDI Outputs select Out To MIDI Yoke: 1
?
In the Port Routing screen USB Audio Device and MIDI-OX Event Port should both be connected to OutTo MIDI Yoke: 1
?
QY100 backup output.ini deals with USB-MIDI output port.
?
In Midi Devices, MIDI Inputs select In From MIDI Yoke: 2
In Midi Devices, MIDI Outputs select USB Audio Device
?
In the Port Routing screen In From MIDI Yoke: 2 and MIDI-OX Event Port should both be connected to USB Audio Device:
?
Input Ports Output Ports
In From MIDI Yoke: 2 USB Audio Device
MIDI-OX Event Port?
?
In the Datafiler software make sure you select the following connections:
?
DataFiler MIDI IN: In From MIDI Yoke: 1
DataFiler MIDI OUT: Out to MIDI Yoke: 2
?
Sequence:
?
Start the Midi-Ox instances first
then the QY100
then the Data Filer
?
If you want to examine the contents of a bulk file create a copy of it first and examine that.
I am not sure but opening them in Notepad might introduce new data and cause a checksum error.
?
If anyone from Yamaha ever reads this there are a lot of people that very much like the QY100 and would certainly buy an updated model. I have a bunch of features I would like
see in it and I know it's possible to make a device that would dominate the market. It could also absorb the functionality of phrase trainers, mini multitrack recorders etc.
Boss/Roland get in touch if you are reading this, lol.
?
Finally if anyone has a list of the musicians who worked on the QY100 the please share. This device if used well is perhaps the best thing you can ever buy to grow musically.
I know a lot of people use computers but there are issues with portability and software problems with them. I want as few problems as possible in the way when it's time for music.

I found a way that works for me to backup the QY100 using a cheap USB Midi adapter. It uses free midi software and means that I avoided having to buy a more expensive USB Midi adapter. If anyone's interested I will post an explanation. |
QY100 Data Backup USB Midi - solution
First of all a big thank you to the admins of this group for providing a place to discuss all things QY100.
?
I wanted to make a post detailing a solution to QY100 USB MIDI backup that worked for me. The situation seems to be
fraught with card readers that stop the QY100 recognizing the data card and cheap usb midi adapters with small buffers.
?
I was able to use some free software to get around all this and avoided having to pay a lot of money for a better usb midi adapter.
?
If anyone is interested I will post more.

Hello! Driving myself crazy here. I have more than one QY100 and one appears to have gone rogue. Its versions are 1.36 and 1.00. I can get it to make sounds playing its own keyboard but I can't get it to respond to anything sent to MIDI in. I've tried a? keyboard
and a sequence and I have run the MIDI in/out test which came back OK. I am often confused by the MIDI utility page on the QY100, so I don't mess with it if I can avoid it. I would assume I have got something wrong there, except I have tried the same settings
on aother unit and they work, and I have tried the settings from the other unit in the rogue unit and they don't. I'd assume a hardware fault if it wasn't for the test result. My other two units have a higher OS version and a lower - 1.38 and 1.04. I've done
a factory reset. So, I'm out of ideas and any suggestions would be gratefully received. Best Giles

Thanks for the suggestion, David. There is such a setting on the QY100 and it's one that catches me out regularly. This turned out to be something different. Hadn't occured to me to check it - there's a host select switch: Midid, PC2, PC1, Mac. I've never had
cause to set it, so I must have knocked it. It was on PC2 - as soon as I clicked to MIDI everything was back to normal. Cheers Giles
