Re: QY100 display light

Following this thread with interest.
As for me, I have a QY70, QY100, and QY300 that could benefit from a backlight. I'd be up for group buy.
It would be nice to come up with some kind of universal, repeatable guide to backlighting old gear.

I was re-reading this thread and I wanted to address the above point a little bit.

While it is true that there generally is a?transformer/inductor?buzzing (though quite minimal with the right components as Pria mentioned) the buzzing is actually NOT present in the audio stream (provided the wiring, inverter placement, and power tapping is done correctly). ? In my experience, even with those large blocky EL Panel inverters you see on ebay (not a good choice as they are quite loud and really hard to fit inside the device) the audio stream itself has no buzzing.

Wow Eric! Nice answer. Didn¡¯t know about the extra copper.

Re: QY100 display light

is that compatible?

This. The main problem, to me, is that of the compatibility! Someone has to buy, dismantle a precious QY and test... this will take time and money, time can be the worst problem, in my case.

and is it any better than your cheap frontlight solution?

Definitely! A backlit LCD or an OLED woud be far better for sure!

Re: QY100 display light

that expensive one is 13weeks for factory :-) and it is touch sensitive, so probably not suitable.
the less expensive one, does it do same dot pitch etc.? (more research...)

Re: QY100 display light

yes, the crystalfontz one is what i saw last night. is that compatible? what about a group buy? would mean putting the word out for a little while.
-providing it works of course. and is it any better than your cheap frontlight solution?

think it's worth looking around though. what about aliexpress, direct? not seen anything there yet though.

Holly molly, at that price you can hire a hot girl to hold a flashlight into the QY

That was worth a try... never give up looking for an LCD replacement!

To sum up:

  • Original LCD is a DMF50202N (once upon a time existed the DMF50202NY-LY, the LED backlit equivalent...)

DMF50202N specifications

  • Display Type LCD - Monochrome
  • Display Mode Reflective
  • Backlight Without Backlight
  • Size. 95.0mm W x 58.0mm H x 8.7mm D
  • Dot Size. 0.40mm W x 0.56mm H
  • Viewing Area 62.00mm L x 44.00mm W
  • Dot Pixels 128 x 64
  • Dot Pitch 0.60mm x 0.44mm
  • Interface Serial

LCD controller CPU is a T6963C (XL166A00) and this is the crucial bit.

The mouser search engine pulled out this one, slightly bigger (can fit, I'm worried for the 11 mm thickness) But look at the price... 135 €!!!

Re: QY100 display light

See #127 above: the problem seems not being the display panel in itself (btw, would love an OLED on my QY100!) but the display control system. As Eric wrote, I also did some (sloppy) research, and always ended up to that "not completely sure" wall...

Anyway, joining effort could be an idea, so, here's some questions, I can open up my 100 to give some answers this weekend...

  • the LCD assembly (going from memory here) is attached to the main board via a small (9 wires?) flat cable. This would be the interface towards a new (OLED?) screen.
  • which kind of controller/protocol/signalling happens on that ribbon connector?

PS: as many others here I also have at hand the data sheets for the LCD assy (see at thread top). Can post/store here if someone asks for.

Re: QY100 display light

yes, i have no idea honestly, nor competence in the matter. just wondering if there's a modern display on the market that would do it as a direct replacement.
had a quick look but that's the only thing that i saw. prea came up with a great cheap solution, but there are some really nice OLED displays in things these days.
