Re: Brian Eno patches.

Nathan I Smutz

There are four of Brian Eno's favorite patches on the patch sheet section
of Keyboard magazine February 1987. Kalimba 2,Tamboura,Glide, Violin 3.
I don't have a scanner set up or I'd scan it and send it. Check your
local libraries. Don't forget the library of a local university or
college. The local university here has a collection of Keyboard from the
present to back in the '80s. -Nathan

Re: Hammond B3 Voice Patch

Hi I have a few good B3 patches on my DX7IIFD, I am just not sure how
to export those to computer. If you point me towards a way to do
this I would be happy to share.
P.S. I can hook it to the PC but could never get any Patch editor
software to work with it.

Wanted: stabs programming tips for the yammy dx100

Who could give me some programming tips on how to make / get stabs
("Detroit" "stabs") on the DX100 ? (what the DX100 is so famous for) :)

Help is very much appreciated. :)

Inside DX7

Hello I'm new to this list. But not to the DX series.
However there is one thing I'd like to ask. I recently did my annual
check up of my rig, and whils cleaning the DX inside I found 4
potentiometers which I hadn't seen before.
One adjusted the display.
One seemed to "Tweak" the oscillators making them more crisp.
One I have no idea what it did.
And the fourth seemed to adjust the battery level. At it's lowest the
battery level read 1.8 V and at it's highest it read 3.2 V
This to me is very wierd.

Has anyone seen this? What does it really do. And the Third, what
does that do?

Well, The Dx Rules.

Oh, by the way It's an Original DX7 I own. (among others)...

Re: FM Heaven?

Summa

Hi,

I tried FMHeaven, I find it doesn't sound completely like a real DX7 yet,
even so you can import DX7 Sysex files, but comes close and don't need much
processing power. Also fine is the matrix to create own algorithms, that way
even feedback for every operator is possible. What's missing so far is the
pitch envelope and rate scaling. I emailed the programmer (provided him with
tx81z waveforms) a new expanded version is already planed...

Part of his mail...

---------------

The current features in the new (1.2) release of
FMHeaven include:

Rate Scaling control as on the DX7 - this allows the attacks of string
sounds to be programmed much more easily.

Oscillator sync control - now allows sync to be turned off.

Unison mode - user selectable number of voices per note, plus control over
the degree of detuning of the voices and stereo placement.

Additional controller support such as overall modulation control - this can
be used like the cutoff frequency controller to 'brighten' a sound by
generating more high frequency harmonics. Can be quite effective.

Planned features (maybe in 1.2):

Additional oscillator waveforms - I had a play with additional waveforms
with existing patches and got some great digital noises. Lots of distortion,
but with an excellent in your face sound breaking through. I am trying to
work out what would be sensible waveforms to include, hence the interest in
the Tx81z waveforms. I am planning on including sine, sine + odd harmonics,
sine + even harmonics settings with a couple of soft and maybe an extreme
example of each. So this is square and saw type patterns.

I don't have it, but it's supposed to be pretty good. One I have
used is on Virtual Sampler, which has it's own DX emulation. That
one is nearly spot on - there is a Feedback issue; turn it down if
it's too much, the it's fine. I use this for previewing patches
before I spent half an hour programming them in (no MIDI!)

If you get FM Heaven, let us know how it is.

Re: Digest Number 68(Soundlib)(DX7II editors)

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The only DX7II editors that I know, cost money.? Unisyn is the?editor that I have.? People say good things about Soundiver.? I think that Midiquest probably edits the DX7II too.? Software that was written for the original DX7 may?communicate?correctly with the DX7II.? I think?I heard that?Yamaha engineered the DX7II to send two packets of data.? One packet is compatible with the original DX7.??The other packet contains the extra data for the DX7II.? This would explain how Soundlib sends DX7?data and ignores the?extra DX7II parameters.? I hope you find an editor that works.? -Nathan

DX7II as a controller for modules (PB, MW, CS1, CS2)

Nathan I Smutz

Hi,

If the keyboard is having no effect on your module, you may not have them
set to the same MIDI chanel. Hit the EDIT button then press button
number 32 (MIDI 1) press it again and again until you see "Channel
messages" in the right hand side of your screen. Now you can change the
Transmit channel "Trns ch".
As for CS1 and CS2: While you are in EDIT mode press number 32 (MIDI 1
again) until you see "Controll number" in the right hand side of your
screen. Now you can use the left arrrow key to highlight "CS >1" or CS
2" to set their controller numbers. Movement of the sliders will send
these controll signals. If these controll signals are sent to the DX
they will afffect the parameters that CS1 or CS2 are set to affect.

There is a problem with using the DX for a controller. Velosity and
perhaps other parameters only send values up to 99. The normal MIDI
range goes up to 127. If you have a sequencer or another program that
allows you to see the MIDI messages that you are sending, you may want to
check whether the DX sends the full rannge of Mod wheel and pitch bender
messages. It may be a good idea to check the sliders too.
I hope you are able to get your setup to work.
Make a joyful noise,
Nathan

--- Nathan I Smutz <n.smutz@...> wrote:
Hi Ivan,

I believe that the author of Soundlib programed it
with the information
he had about the original DX7. The original DX7
didn't have a number of
parameters that the DX7II has. For instance: the
function of the Mod
Wheel was a gobal setting on the DX7. The Mod
wheel affected every
patch in the same way , until you changed it. The
DX7II saves an
individual setting for the Mod Wheel in every patch.
When a controller
is assigned to modulate amplitude (Amod or EGbias),
the DX7II (maabe the
DX7 as well) lowers the amplitude of all the
operators with an Amod
setting. So your patches will not sound the same
without their
controller settings. I made a patch that uses the
pitch envelope on the
DX7II. On the DX7II you can change the range of the
pitch envelope from
8 octaves down to 1/2 octave. When I load my patch
from Soundlib the
pitch envelope is always set to 8 octaves. I have
to change it back to
the 1 or 2 octave range. "Performances" were not a
feature on the DX7
either. I don't have very much expierence with
sysex utilities. A
generic sysex utility might work fine with the
DX7II. I hope you find
somthing that works well. Mabe let us know when you
do. -Nathan

-----------Original Message---------

Hi Nathan,

you are sure, but doesnt matter that SoundLib
doesnt
save all performance data
Important for me is to get patches into my library

Re: DX7II as a controller for modules (PB, MW, CS1, CS2)

Arnaud Garnier

Hi !

I'm not very good at programming but I can assure you that the two
sliders CS1 and CS2 on the DX7 II can be assigned to various midi
controls. I controled with them some filters on my MU90R, so I'm sure it
works.
Unfortunately, I can't help you about reassigning them.

Greetings,
Arnaud.

DX7II as a controller for modules (PB, MW, CS1, CS2)

mango

Does anyone use the DX7II (i have a DX7IID) as a controller to control
other synth-modules ?
How do you set it up to send out PitchBend and ModulationWheel messages
to the synth-module ?

I have a Nord Rack 2, and it is set to receive PB and MW messages, but
appearently the DX7II isn't, because it isn't working :) The DX7's PB
and MW work on it's own sounds by the way, so it doesn't seem broken any
way.

p.s. the sliders called "CS1" and "CS2" can be used to send out
selectable CC-numbers, or not ?

Thanks !

Looking for the 'Ian Boddy' voices for DX7

Richard

Many years ago, when the DX7 was king, Ian Boddy programmed some superb
voices that were available direct from him, or via Sound on Sound
magazine in the UK.

Does anyone have a copy of these voices. I have checked with Ian Boddy
himself, and he doesn't have a copy.
