DX7II as a controller for modules (PB, MW, CS1, CS2)

Nathan I Smutz

Hi,

If the keyboard is having no effect on your module, you may not have them
set to the same MIDI chanel. Hit the EDIT button then press button
number 32 (MIDI 1) press it again and again until you see "Channel
messages" in the right hand side of your screen. Now you can change the
Transmit channel "Trns ch".
As for CS1 and CS2: While you are in EDIT mode press number 32 (MIDI 1
again) until you see "Controll number" in the right hand side of your
screen. Now you can use the left arrrow key to highlight "CS >1" or CS
2" to set their controller numbers. Movement of the sliders will send
these controll signals. If these controll signals are sent to the DX
they will afffect the parameters that CS1 or CS2 are set to affect.

There is a problem with using the DX for a controller. Velosity and
perhaps other parameters only send values up to 99. The normal MIDI
range goes up to 127. If you have a sequencer or another program that
allows you to see the MIDI messages that you are sending, you may want to
check whether the DX sends the full rannge of Mod wheel and pitch bender
messages. It may be a good idea to check the sliders too.
I hope you are able to get your setup to work.
Make a joyful noise,
Nathan
