How about this?
Scott
OK, I've got a new setup idea that might work. How does this sound?
PC OUT -> DX-100 IN DX-100 THRU -> FB-01 IN FB-01 THRU -> "FB-02" IN DX-100 OUT AND "FB-02" THRU -> MERGE IN (2 IN, 8 OUT) MERGE OUT -> PC IN * This is what I came up with after reading Summa's reply. If I've got this figured correctly, this should allow send and receive for all devices. Since the MIDI merge box will be receiving a THRU signal, can I also hook up my drum machine from one of its outputs? It looks good on paper, anyway. :) |
Yeah, I wish I had more MIDI in's on my PC
Scott
I'd love to have some giant MIDI patchbay, but I'm too cheap
(hence the DX-100 and FB-01's ;) I've tried it a few different ways, but the computer didn't recognize what I like to call "FB-02" (sorry, I know that's not funny to anyone else ;) I'll give it another try with some of your suggestions. Thanks for the help! Cheers, Scott |

Thanks for your help,
it's going to be valuable to me .. So i need to change the OS chip, do you know how much this costs ? I guess it's a standard EPROM chip, maybe it would be possible to reprogram it provided Yamaha would be kind enough to send me the ROM dump image .. i doubt it though Regards, Da Pelikan |

Summa
Hi,
first of all you probably have to use the MIDI Thru port instead the OUT to cascade the synths... Computer Out DX100 IN (since it's the only one with keyboard and I guess you use your computer as sequencer) DX100 Out Computer MIDI IN DX100 MIDI Thru FB01 #1 MIDI IN FB01 #1 MIDI Thru FBO1 #2 MIDI IN When programming sounds and your computer is not having enough MIDI In for every device, you can't request the memory of the synth and the software isn't able to recognise the synth, so at least on sounddiver you should be able to install the devices manually. You also should be able to edit and store sound then, but you have to change the device ID for one FB01 and of course have to set the devices IDs for the synths manualy on sounddiver too... That at least should work, I never tried it, since I'm having a MIDI In and a Out for every of my synths... Summa At 21:26 20.03.01 -0000, you wrote: OK, so here's my deal. You will need to get a better midi interface that allows connecting ?the in and out of each synth to the PC independantly. You can not edit all the synths, or any of them I’d say, by the chart you posed below.

MIDI Quest vs. Sound Diver, others?
Scott
OK, so here's my deal. I added a bunch of new gear to my home studio,
and I'm looking for a good editor/librarian program (for PC). I've played around with MIDI Quest 7.0 and Sound Diver a little, but not thoroughly enough to prefer one over the other. (Although I was getting slightly better results with Sound Diver.) I'm using a DX-100 and 2 FB-01's, and having a difficult time getting everything to work at the same time. If I just hook up one device, editing is no prob, but all hell breaks loose when I hook 'em all up together. I thought that all the channels were correct, but I guess not, if it only recognizes 1 of the FB's. The path was something like this: PC MIDI OUT -> FB-01 IN, FB-01 OUT -> DX-100 IN, DX-100 OUT -> FB-01 #2 IN, FB-01 #2 OUT -> PC MIDI IN. I've tried this several different ways, but this seemed to be the simplest. (One day at work I spent my lunch hour drawing little charts. :) When I figure out how to program all this stuff, I plan to do some live shows, with a QX3 sequencer (which is much easier to set up). Any pointers for my programming dilemma? I'm still new to MIDI, so anything other than RTFM would be helpful. ;) Thanks in advance, Scott |
Re: Sound library ? send SYSEX
Nathan I Smutz
Hi again,
I'm sorry if this is stuff you already know: You could make sure that the DX100 is set to send sysex. Also, you may need to manualy push some buttons on the synth to dump/load your patches. After I had made sure that the DX is working properly, (sends regular note data, etc.) I'd email the author of P-Farm to see if there have been any other problems like this. I hope you get it working. On another note; It doesn't look like P-Farm saves in generic sysex format. -Nathan From: ". Unfortunately you can't copy parameters (envelopes ...) with Sounddiver
adaptions, that's why I find Unisyn to be a better choice to edit the TX81z... At 15:53 19.03.01 +0000, you wrote: Mine had V1.0 software. Mine had V1.0 software. I rang Yamaha spares and ordered the last version chip (V1.6) In mine the chip was socketed so was dead easy to change. -- Richard |
TX81z and SoundDiver users ...
Hello,
I am new to this group and new to hardware synthesisers altogether. I discovered synthesis through software versions and now i want to buy a TX81z i saw for a decent price ( ?50) I am planning to use it with SoundDiver from Emagic which i got hold of already. I saw on Emagic's site that there is a bug in the TX81 os versions under 1.4 ( not inclusive) which prevents sound editing. Is there anyone using SoundDiver with a TX81z by any chance ? Does sound editing ( sysex transfer ) work with other programs ? The os on the tx i am going to buy is version 1.1 by the way .. I really want to edit the sounds and use ones made by others so i need to know this. I would greatly appreciate any help and comments on this .. Thanks in advance ! PS: Native Instruments ( ) is going to release a software emulation of the DX7 called FM7. In theory there should be no difference between the sound of the original and its recreation, since i understand a DX7 is a "digital synth". Well of course, the D/A's used to be 12bit, but i don't think my soundcard's 4 extra bits can hurt .. I don't know if they implemented a bit reduction feature to take this into account though Let's wait and .. hear |

Re: CX5M, Help needed......
jiles
i have a CX5MII and as much as i like having it around it's really not that
advanced. i think u have seriously over estimating it's abilities, especially in the live arena! the computer itself is at about the same level as the commodore 64. the fm synths in them are not too bad at all, but the midi implementation on the CX5MII is pretty limited. program change, midi sync, and 4 controllers (volume, sustain, portamento switch and portamento time). i think it was even more limited on the CX5M. sequencing? compared to cakewalk and acid it is very very basic sequencing. Does this particular PC already have a floppy disk drive (3.5) or isadd on. and i think the floppy drives are hard to find. i'm note totally sure what you are trying to achieve but perhaps one of those midi controller knobby things used with the DX21 would do the job... ? you can download a manual here to find out more: _ sleepville electronic music |

When I set up a MIDI program, I usualy have to configure the program to send MIDI data to my MIDI OUT port. When I first install programs, they usualy send MIDI data to my sound card's built in synthesizer. To change MIDI settings in P-Farm: Go to the "Edit" menu. Click preferences. Highlight your instrument. (You will need to "Add" your instrument if you haven't done this. I don't know if the DX100 is of the V50 type or the YS100 type.) When you have your instrument highlighted, click "Properties". Now, you should be able to select a MIDI channel and your MIDI IN and MIDI OUT ports. If you set up a different instrumet type, (i.e. v50 if the YS100 setup didn't work well) it looks like you will need to configure MIDI options for the new instrument type. Soli Deo Gloria, Nathan -----------Original Message---------------
I've tried the P-Farm and I can not test it because everytime i try to send or receive something a message error is displayed and tells me to check the midi set up. But the midi set up is OK (i've tested it with my Korg Prophecy and everything is OK) Any idea ? ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Yamaha DX7 with Split keyboard, arpegiator and lots of banks
Richard
I've just bought a DX7 Mark 1 that is not 'normal'. It seems to have an
arpegiator, split keyboard lots of banks for sounds, etc. When it starts up, it states 'MAXsystems SUPERMAX (A)' I take it is some form of upgrade. Is there a site (or anything,anywhere0 that can tell me more. -- Richard |
CX5M, Help needed......
I am looking into buying a CX5M for live use, but i was wondering if
any of you might be able to help me with some questions the reveiw pages would'nt answer. I know this PC does FM Synthesis, but when interfacing with a DX keyboard, what options does it provide?? I mean can I alter all parameters???? Does it have a sequencing program? What does the layout look like? I am so used to cakewalk and Acid that I am afraid to leave them. Does this particular PC already have a floppy disk drive (3.5) or is like the atari where you have to add on everything??? I have a W5 I transfer live programming to when I go to a show, and I run the additional sequences by turning off one channel on the W5 and running the DX off of that, cuz the W5 doesnt use Device Id's like unisyn would if I brought my PC live. Would the CX5M eliminate the need for me to eliminate this one channel on my W5??? Does it use Device Id's?? (I figure it does cuz it is made by Yamaha.) I dunno, I am trying to use as many voices for my live programming, and the sixteen channels I have access to on the W5 are icing on the cake you know? I only get one channel on the DX21, and one channel on my DTX2 (that I feel is worth using since it is just a drum module, and the drums are all on Channel Ten). One more thing before I go, does anyone know what exactly the synthesis on the CS6x is all about? I read somewhere it is using like three types of synthesis: Wave Form, FM, and Sampling, as well as this new Digital Formulation or something like that.. I have too many questions Dont I??? Fear |
