FT-847 Interfacing cables 6
Hello All, Looking for a little help on the FT-847 EXT ALC Cable. I could find no reference to a part number in my manual. I did locate on pg 14 both the STBY Cable and the ALC Cable. Was the ALC Cable ever available from Yaesu? Please sign your posts ( GW3FSP - Moderator )

FT847 avaiilable
I have an FT847 which is now surplus to my needs since I have bought my ic7300. I would like to make it available for free to a good home or perhaps also for parts. It has sat on my shelf for several years since I used it. Let me know of any interest. I live in Ontario Canada. Reply to my email joe at laferla dot ca. Thanks for any interest.

Unidirectional CAT
I have a FT847 but my serial number 8Exxx. This corresponds to the number before the famous 8GE series. I understand that I have a one-way CAT connection. So is there a modification for this or how can I switch to a bidirectional CAT connection?

Firmware FT847
Hi, I had been wondering if anyone has flashed the firmware on a Yaesu FT847? The original firmware allows for Doppler shifting as we all know and obviously inhibits full duplex on same band which is understandable. What CAT commands can also do is switch on SPLIT. However, SPLIT does not allow you to write to the SUB-VFO in SPLIT mode. Does anyone has experience of flashing the original firmware for the FT847? I wonder is a modified Firmware could send CAT commands (if the CPU allows it) to the SUB-VFO in SPLIT mode? If anyone has any thoughts on this I would be grateful to hear. I honestly can’t see hardware constraints and the commands may be implemented but hidden as they may not be needed. I can’t see any reason to swap SUB-VFO for the main VFO set the frequency and swap it back again if it’s constrained. Every button must go via the processor and thus must be selectable from the CPU command set as a register. Simply having the code available to set a button in the firmware should unlock access to a command set for every button (totally overkill but workable). Again thoughts appreciated, Kind regards, De Spence M0STO Sent while portable! please excuse typos.

Din plugs for FT840 and FT847 2
Can someone point me to the correct mini dip plugs for the FT840 and FT847. I am looking for them for the tuner jacks in particular. On the FT840 one appears to be a 5 pin mini din but the center pin is missing like it is a 6 pin with the middle pin missing. The 5 pins DINs I saw were equally spaced so not the same. The Tuner2 plug appears to be an 8 pin mini din. The CAT connector is 6 pin and the plugs I have fit it but not sure what to look for particularly for the Tune1 input. Thank you. Jim Pruitt WA7DUY

CAT Isolated? 17
Hello everyone, I bought a second hand Yaesu FT847 and then I was build a isolated interface for DATA IN/OUT port. It works very well but I haven't build null modem cable for CAT control. I am not familiar with the CAT communication protocol. I use FTDI for PTT control. In FTDI, RX and TX ports are empty and I want to use these ports because I want to using interface one USB cable. Of course, using optocoupler. How can I do it? How should I connect the optocouplers or what kind of circuit should I create? Thx and 73.

847 and SIGNALINK USB 4
Anyone have noise issues with the SIGNALINK USB on MSK144 with the FT-847. My FT847 is quite deaf on 6 meter MSK144 and it seems the issue is Noise with the Signalink USB. I utilize the Data Port on the Rear of the 847 and I use the Signalink Module SLMODHT. The combination works fine on HF but my 847 is very deaf on VHF.....Can't seem to figure out why. Any suggestions? or experience? Gary W7FSI DN-24

Dual VFO tracking - Split 7
? Dear group, Perhaps if I explain a little background and what I’ve tried it may help to prevent things I’ve done being repeated. GreenCube is my problem! Working GreenCube is a nightmare because of one reason, it’s a satellite and it’s also a digipeater. Every program I’ve tried will happily tune the main VFO but will not change the sub VFO. PSTrotator, HRD etc. OmniRig does not seem to like to change the sub VFO while it’s tuning the main VFO. The FT847 has a major drawback though. In satellite mode split mode this is achieved easily because the bands are V/U or U/V uplink and downlink and full duplex but GreenCube sits on the same frequency (bar Doppler correction). So the radio will “error” when trying to TX on the same band, that’s common knowledge. The issue is when in split mode (the only real way to work GreenCube and Doppler shift), as above, all software shows the VFO change in software but not on the radio. I’ve had extensive conversations with Codrut (PSTrotator) and after many adjustments to his software he can’t manage to get the sub VFO to alter with the main VFO. The nearest I’ve been to achieving this was in HRD and setting the Uplink and Downlink manually but as above only the “main” downlink VFO would alter. I know that some versions of the FT847 had some issues with asynchronous communications but this wouldn’t affect the communication when altering the frequency. I plan to inspect the bit data and see if sub-VFO commands are actually being sent. I’ve successfully sent manual commands to turn on sat mode, LSB/USB mode, enter frequencies etc. I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this? FT847_CAT PDF Document · 297 KB Please see the list of CAT commands but none mention Split?! And there isn’t a provision for altering the sub-VFO in the command structure that I can see!. Is it actually possible? Even repeater mode would’t work as it would have a constant frequency indifference and not change with Doppler bringing uplink and down link together at 90degrees (straight above would probably have 0 Doppler shift). Any thoughts appreciated, De Spence M0STO Sent while portable! please excuse typos.

FT-847 only transmitting on FM mode. de: W1SMS 6
To the group; My trusty FT-847 has stopped transmitting on all bands (HF>UHF) on SSB, CW and AM modes. It does work OK on the FM mode - TX audio via mic is OK. I did try swapping the TX & RX filter modules with no change. I also reset the uP using menu #39 without any success. Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting? Thanks and 73, Steve W1SMS

FC10 and FC20 on FT840
Can anyone tell me what the difference(s) is/are for the FC10 and FC20? I have an FT840 and recently bought a FC20 tuner but the FT840 says to use the FC10 tuner. I am hoping the FC20 will work instead so I need to know what the differences are. Hopefully they use the same protocol and commands. Does anyone know if the FC20 will work on the FT840 without any mods? Thank you. Jim Pruitt WA7DUY

DISC (Discriminator Center Meter) 2
My DISC is way off center and has been since buying. How do you adjust this to get the display to read in the center? My transmissions are find and I used a frequency counter to check to see if I am off frequency. I was told a whole ago that you can access a special menu to make adjustments to bring the display back to center.

DTMF Microphone?
Hi all, Since the MD-36D8 DTMF microphones are no longer available, has anyone modified something like a Yaesu MH-36A6J with the modular plug? Is there an aftermarket version available i'm not aware of?

Hf+50 MHz power loss 10
Dear FT 847 owners, after 20 + years of honest service few days ago my FT 847 started to loose output power on HF and 50/70 Mhz. Now on HF and 50/70 Mhz it delivers only less that 10 w out. I suspect some "boiled" component in the LPF bank or the final devices gone.... It has been used intensively on 50 Mhz ft8 but never at full throttle power. Any hints for a similar experience are welcome. IK0OKY Emilio

No audio in Yaesu MD-100A8X Microphone and yaesu md-100 A8X 7
I have a Yaesu MD-100A8X microphone connected to a Yaesu FT-847 radio and when I press the PTT the radio shows a carrier going out and the carrier is being seen by all parties but no audio. Through the repeater.. I don’t think the problem is in the radio because when I connect the hand microphone it works OK. I have no idea how to troubleshoot this but I am a quick learner. I replaced the mic. To radio cord but I still have the problem. Thanks, Steven/kc3dow Note. I posted this on the other ft-847 group thinking it was here. It seems that I was not a member of this group.
