FT101ZD Dial and Digital Counter Misaligned

Hello all. I am BRAND new to the FT101 so be patient with me. I'm new to radios of this vintage in general and just got this radio yesterday and haven't had time to play much with it but I'm pretty sure something is wrong here.?

See picture. The sub-dial does not show the correct number as what is indicated on the digital counter. Does something need aligned here? Is this easily fixable by someone like me or does it have to go to a shop? Or does it even really matter? The digital counter appears to be accurate. I find signals where I expect them to be on the digital counter.?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Re: FT-101E conversion to 6883B finals

Thanks for sharing the link Emerson.? An excellent article on not only what NOT to do by why not...? ?I am always on the lookout for another FT101Z but will now be wary of the 'not working' stuff...? Al GM4ENF.

Re: FT-101E conversion to 6883B finals

Emerson, thanks for that. That cements my decision to return my 101E to original. At least I can backtrack what I did and it should work ... I've already bought the replacement 6JS6C sockets. Now I just have to find the tubes at an affordable price.?

A good advice.

Re: 101zd low rx solution.

Interesting. My 101Z suddenly became 'deaf' some time ago.? After a lot of investigion work I came to the conclusion that? the first RF Amp device had likely failed.? I am a little reluctant to start desoldering etc as the rig is in 42 years old original untouched condition.? Were yuu able to source a genuing 3SK51 (or use an equivalent?) I cannot find one on internet but I understand that a 40673 will work.? Any frther information on your rix would be appreciated.? Thanks Al GM4ENF.

101zd low rx solution.

My 101zd was about 10db down on rx. I went down the troubleshooting road and cleaned all the relays I could find and checked the lamp fuse.?
Wound up changing the first rf amp and it came back to life.?

FT-101E conversion to 6883B finals

Are there any members who have made the conversion from 6JS6C finals to 6883Bs according to the K3JLS.net documents?? If so, do you have any recommendations? I've done the conversion but have yet to get my rig back on line.

I bet its the switch, try using the other side of the switch that is not used, boom... works

Keith,

I would make sure the contacts on both relays are not corroded and making good connection. I assume you know how to do that?

Does the 'VFO' red LED stay lit when you key?

Thanks Mike, I checked pins 1&2 and they are shorted.? I did pull out the other relay and it looked good, i didn't pull it apart.? When i key up or put it into MOX mode it sounds like it's still in Rx mode, I can hear the noise still.? I don't hear either of the relays clicking or engaging.??

Keith.?

Sorry about that I put my call sign in my profile and thought it would be visible on my posts.? KN6WNE Keith.? I do have schematics, I'll check what you've written.? It won't go into transmit with the MOX switch engage either.? I replaced C13 like Buddy says to do in his youtube videos.? His channel is called the radio guy.? I'll pull up the schematic and start tracing.? The Mic was tested on another 101 and it worked.? Thank you very much Tony

Hello,

?

Not sure who you are. No name or call sign at end of your message.

?

Download a schematic and start tracing from pin 3 of the microphone connector past the MOX switch. (Does the radio TX when the PTT/MOX/VOX switch is placed in MOX? MOX… manually Operated Relay.) Path then goes thru RL-1 coil and on.

?

You do not mention you have a schematic. The “light bulb” acts as an RX fuse in case of too much RF injected into the receiver.

Make sure it is the correct type bulb,it has nothing to do with TX.

Hello all, I recently wanted to try my hand in getting an old rig. I bought an FT-101B on ebay, untested of course.? It does receive pretty good on the bands but it will not transmit.? The mic I have was tested on another Ft-101 and it works.? I've taken it apart, pulled out all the boards, cleaned it as much as possible. I didn't see any burnt components.? I took the relay out of the high voltage box where the tubes are and cleaned the contacts.? I touched it with 12v and it engages.? I checked the light bulb in the back and it reads good on an ohmmeter. The tubes look good.? I cleaned the MOX adjust knob.? My question is which board or part should I look at first.? I'm kind of at a loss where to start.? Thanks in advance all.?

Also check the other relay in the audio section (not just the antenna relay)

Make sure pins 1&2 on the accessory jack are shorted. That allows heater current to flow.

You might also want to post your query on the Facebook group dedicated to the FT-101:

They have over 1800 members and plenty of experience to draw on.? They helped me get my 101EX back up and running.

Good luck,

Re: FT-101EE component question

Ok I think I found the answer.

My manual, in Section 6 "MODIFICATIONS", page 6-21 & 6-22
describes a fix for "Hum Problems", and calls for the addition
of a 1000uf/25v electrolytic on T12 to ground (which is what I have)

So some owner in the past probably made this mod.

Hello folks,

I'm trying to find out if the boards on my FT-101EE are proper
enough to work happily together with the radio.
I believe I have some that are okay, but possibly others that might not
be optimum.??

The radio's serial number shown on the back plate is 6N 241468
But there is another label on the side of the inside chassis (just below
where the crystal sockets are) that shows 246107.

I'm a bit confused in the manual where it tells what variation you have
based on S/N. Early, Mid, Late...etc I'm not sure where mine falls.

So here is what I currently have onboard:

MOD???????????? PB1184A
AUDIO????????? PB1315A
RF???????????????? PB1181B
LO-IF??????????? PB1183C
HF-IF??????????? PB1180

Do any of these look like they might be a problem if they're not
the right iteration of a certain board?

Thanks for any help
