Re: YD7001 update: Build 55 #yd7001 #wifi

Magnificent… easy update & successful. This demonstrates the quality of this system. Thank you greatly.

Re: Use of LNWIs with YD7001 - does anyone have experience?

Jay,

Since you're looking for 14-16 connections, the LNWIs or any other hardware solution are inadequate for that purpose. Even if perfectly managed/balanced, the throttle slots get "locked" or "stuck" to that particular throttle, so you'll quickly run out of capacity. The answer is using the real WiThrottle server in JMRI. With LocoNet, you can use a separate computer for WiThrottle server then what you're using for configuring and monitoring the system, so your WiThrottle server can be a Raspberry Pi or whatever else you want it to be. Further, you can auto-start WiThrottle server with Decoder Pro or Panel Pro, and it should be trivial to put either of those into the startup folder on Windows, which would create a one-click system to running a real WiThrottle server. Windows takes what, maybe a minute to boot up on even a five year old machine with an SDD and Windows 10? WiThrottle is widely used in the hobby and is table stakes for most clubs out there. The LNWI just isn't a scalable solution for a club environment, and will cause more problems than it solves compared to running a real WiThrottle server.

The built-in WiThrottle server on the YD7001 is pretty cool for a small layout with only a few operators, although you still lose the roster functionality that you'd get with a real WiThrottle server combined with Decoder Pro.

You have clearly established on this forum and the Digikeijs forum that you have not use for LNWIs.? So I have to conclude that you have no experience using them with a YD7001.? Hence I am unsure why you felt it necessary to reply to my question.

I have been to touch with Karst regarding any limits to how many throttles a YD7001 can support.? YaMoRC has tested the internal WiFi to 8, and they have tested to 10 throttles using a LAN connection from an external router (they did not have equipment to test beyond that).? Karst has told me that there is probably a limit to the number of TCP/IP connections the new WiFi/LAN module will support, but he does not know what that is.

For the club we need to be able to support 14 to 16 throttles concurrently at this time, with more needed as we add members.? I am trying to build a plan to move us forward later in the year.?
  • One option is to upgrade our two DR5000s (primary, and the backup that we use for our programming track) to YD7001s. Based on YaMoRC testing this will not provide enough capacity.? If we could continue to use the some of the LNWIs that would give us the capacity we need.
  • Another option, pointed out by Karst, would be to do the upgrades to YD7001s and then add the upcoming YD7910 to double the throttle connection capacity.? It is not clear what interesting issues we will run into with this option.? It would also add additional cost.
As I have stated on the Digikeijs forum there are only a couple of the members, me being one, who are comfortable with a JMRI based solution because it involves a computer.? The club members want a turn it on and use it immediately solution (they not willing to wait for a computer to 'start up').? I use JMRI WiThrottle at home and it works great.

I do not want to get into a debate about the pros and cons of LNWIs.? I am very aware of their limitations.? I have to work with what the club currently has.

YD7001 update: Build 55 #yd7001 #wifi

Hello Dear Fans?
?
The new firmware for YD7001 and YD9401 is ready.
?
You are welcome to download it from: http://www.yamorc.de/downloads/YD_7001-build-55.exe?
(manually copy the link text into your browser if the link does not work )
?
To the following procedure:
?
1. download
2. install (using Next, Next, Finish), if you have already done so you can skip the drivers.
3. update the YD7001's firmware
4. reboot the YD7001 cold after updating (switch off, switch on after 15 sec).
Wait until the LED of the YD9401 flashes. 6.
Open the WLAN mask and update the firmware + SPIFFS (check the box!).
7. the YD9401 is now set to the new factory settings, repeat the settings as you did after installing the YD9401.
After updating, restart the YD7001 cold (switch off, switch on after 15 seconds).
?
And then you are ready to go?
?
So what did you get ?
?
1. the 192.168.4.1 bug fixed
2. full WiThrottle protocol (tested with WiThrottle (iPhone), Engine Driver (Android), TCS hand controller and wiFred).
3. some minor stability improvements in the Z21 protocol, programming track.
4. some cosmetic improvements in the speed controller and LocoNet feedback monitor.
5. protection against unwanted inputs when YD9401 is (re)starting.
6. some sound signals in various screens to indicate when e.g. firmware updates are ready or when the YD9401 is on-line again.
7. quite a few more, rather invisible, unnoticeable IT improvements in the GUI.
?
So. you are cordially invited to try it out !
?
Greetings,
Karst

Re: Use of LNWIs with YD7001 - does anyone have experience?

Jay,

The YD7001 has a built-in WiThrottle server, so there is no need for the LNWIs.

The LNWI is a very limited and poorly designed device. In addition to causing issues with some Duplex equipment, they don't release their four Wi-Fi throttle "slots" until they are rebooted, and are hard to manage, since each only supports four throttles. The LNWI also doesn't support the full WiThrottle protocol, it is a slightly modified version of it. Multiple LNWIs makes no sense, as JMRI WiThrottle server should be used instead, and will end up costing less for a much better system.

I am new to YaMoRC and was looking to find out what it involved and if the old Digikeijs DR5000 would work with it.? Luckily I found this YouTube video that explains the installation of the YD9401 LAN module and upgrading the DR5000 to a YD7001.??? ??#yd7001? #dr5000

Re: Where To Buy

That‘s cool ??

we are busy with Ryan to schedule the first delivery ?

Re: Where To Buy

Karst,

We are all excited by your product line, that's why we are looking for ways to get them here in the USA (and others).

Re: #YD8116 - General question #YD8116

Thanks Robert,

?

There will be, but the Module is that versatile, that it is very complicated to write a good manual.

I would ask your question in the iTrain forum, since some people there are also familiar with the YD8116

#YD8116 - General question #YD8116

Will there be a more detailed manual for the YD8116 ? I'm trying to see how to use the module with Dutch signals on my ECOS and i-Train combo.. ECOS is playing nice, but iTrain confuses me with the settings? BTW.. I LOVE the user interface with the separate config tool!

Re: Where To Buy

Hi Rene,

?

No it has not. You can contact DCC Train Automation in the UK. They ship to down-under :)

Has a representative/dealer been appointed for Australia? Thanks, Rene.

Re: WiThottle & YD9401

it‘s a preview. Follow the same instructions as in the original install.

There are good chances the update will be put online today :)

Re: Reversing Loops again

A track plan works as a whole not as isolated small screen grabs, and that is especially true for reversing loops. I provided advice based upon what you provided. When you ask for advice then the best way to get it is to provide all the information, if you don’t want to do that then considered advice isn’t possible.

?

It also sounds like you have already decided your track plan therefore asking for advice without changing based upon the advice makes this a nugatory exercise.

Iain,
Heh, I wasn't really asking for advice on the track plan, just checking on how to wire up the reversing loops especially in the Digikeijs/YaMoRC world. This track plan is verson 60, so it's been going on for a while now.
The whole layout is loop-to-loop over 2 decks. There is yet another staging yard underneath for the other end of the mainline. iTrain or TrainController needs to know about all of the tracks with Railcom detection.

Your answer is not the greatest news, but one I really needed to be confirmed. If it's impractical to put lots of detected blocks inside a reversing loop, then it looks like I will be buying a lot of DR5013's (or the YaMoRC equivalent if/when it becomes available.). This brings it up to around 12 units.?

I've not seen anyone else recommend the short-circuit switch mode, so your comments were useful. Thanks.
