I assume you mean connect the YD7001 to the Mac – you cannot connect the YD9401 to anything.

?

If you are wedded to using a Mac then you can use Parallels, or similar solutions to run a Windows VM on the Mac within which you can run the YD7001 software and connect via USB or LAN.

Thanks Iain:? it may be my faint hope clause to learn how to use (and connect) the YD9401 on a Mac.? If not, I'll have to look elsewhere to run my layout.

The YD9401 is part of the YD7001 command station and it isn’t something you address or use directly.

?

If you want to use the management tool – which gives you the image of the YD7001 – then you need to use a Windows PC.

A few questions I need answers to please, especially if I want to run the YaMoRC Command Station system with a Mac.

Unlike Windows, I cannot see the image of the Command Station (with which I can easily interface) on my desktop on a Mac.

First, does the YD9401work with a Mac?
What Apple OS is minimally needed?
If it does work, do I connect the YD9401 via USB or an ethernet (S88) cable?

Third, will the YD9401 work with the new Mac silicon chips, versions M1 and M2?
Do I connect the YD9401 via USB or ethernet (S88) cable?

Thanks, Don

Re: Digikejis DR500 or YaMoRC Command station and Boosters

Good thought, I was planning on using circuit breakers for addiotnal power districts.? So need to weight those costs versus the larger boosters.? Thanks for your and Iain's response.

Re: Digikejis DR500 or YaMoRC Command station and Boosters

Yes, you can use larger boosters.?

One thing to keep in mind is that if you are going to use common ground boosters, then you won't want to use the command station as a booster since it is opto isolated.?

Another option, which is how I chose to go, is to use multiple smaller boosters and break the layout up into power districts. My doing this, I am able to retain RailCom and have eliminated the need for circuit breakers.

An issue to consider when choosing boosters is what happens when there is a fault on the layout. The booster will trip in line with the parameters set however before the trip comes into play then you get the full current available from the booster running through the fault, it may only be milliseconds but it still runs through the fault. Is you use a 5A booster rather than 3.5A then you have 40% more current flowing until the trip switches off.

?

It is better to have smaller boosters supplying smaller districts or if a larger booster is used then split the outputs using cutout devices into smaller power districts. This also make fault finding easier because it reduces the potential area of the fault.

Subject: [YaMoRC] Digikejis DR500 or YaMoRC Command station and Boosters

Hi I have a question about adding boosters to the command station.? Currently the command stations can supply 3.5 amps and boosters listed are also only 3.5 amps.? Since I am planning and working on a large HO layout that at first will be around 18 ft by 60 feet.? Eventually it will double in width.? So I was wondering if other boosters that can supply 5 amps could be used and if so, is there any special connections to be observed?? I like the command station for all the interfaces it currently supports and works well with iTrain.? Using one now for an N scale layout.? So the main contreoller DCC signal could be used on turnouts and the boosters for the yards, and main lines.

Thanks for any suggestions or information.

DCC command purging/ priority

I have a YD7001 which is used with my Dead rail garden layout, sending commands over WiFi to the battery powered locomotives. The system I use for the WiFi control is WiFiTrax.

Now, the issue I am having is that when we have had a number of locos running the amount of commands coming from the YD7001 starts to overwhelm the WiFi and I start getting delays in response from the locos and eventually some locos become unresponsive. This happens after about an hours running.

If I restart the YD7001 everything goes back to normal running.

Using a DCC sniffer, I can see commands are still being issued for locos that have been stopped and turned off (battery power off).

Is there a setting on the YD7001 to purge stationary locomotives. The Z21 enables this with a number of minute intervals.?

Also is there a way to reduce the number of times an update is sent to each loco or make it so no updates are sent unless there is a change?

Trying to reduce WiFi traffic.?

Cheers Brian

Iain is correct, you will need and external router.? Not all routers are created equal - the less expensive ones typically do not support a large number of wireless connections.? So if purchasing make sure that the router can handle what you need.? If you run out of capacity on the router, what typically happens is that the older connections are disconnected, but again the behaviour depends on the make of the router.

In testing I completed at the York Railway Modellers club in Toronto we managed to get to 10 stable and actively used throttles over the WiThrottle protocol.? We actually got to 12 connected throttles but 2 we not being actively used.? We tried to connect more throttles and the router became unstable and restarted itself.? I have a more capable router (it is designed for a medium size office and will handle at least 36 wireless connections and is worth $400 Canadian) but I have been unable to do load testing with active throttles as we are getting ready for our fall open house.

There are some things you will need to do to get a larger numbers of wireless throttles working with the YD7001:
  • Disable (turn off) the YD7001 internal wireless adapter - this saves processing power on the YD9401 to allow larger numbers of throttles to be supported over the LAN connection.
  • Do not connect the Windows PC on which you are running the YD7001 software via a LAN connection - this puts extra load on the YD7001 LAN port.? Instead connect the Windows PC via USB.
You can look at this topic on the forum - it may have some other tips that I have forgotten.

You will need to use an external router that has DHCP capability, such as your home internet router. They are not expensive at around ?20 upwards

I just did an exhibition show with YD7001 it was very successful it was a small Layout so we only need it 4 WiFi throttles. My question is how do I get more throttles working with the YD 7001 let's say like 10 to 16 WiFi throttles.

Re: YD8008 and common return for operating turnout solenoids

Hi,

?

All returns for 1 (!!) YD8008 may be connected in Common. ( as they are internally )

?

Reason for this is, that the "Commons" are supplied by the internal CDU. Connecting the "Commons" of multiple YD8008's will definitively destroy one or more of them.

I have over 30 turnouts to control so I would be using 3 x YD8008.

Then you would need 4. Since each 8008 handles 8 Turnouts. ( 3x8 = 24 )

Greets,

Karst

YD8008 and common return for operating turnout solenoids

I am currently controlling turnout solenoids (Peco) on dc with toggle switches on my layout. The common feed for each solenoid is connected locally to a common return wire and two longer wires feed back to the switch on a control panel.

I would like to change to dcc operation using YD8008 units. Is it possible to connect the common feeds on the YD8008 to a common return system or would I have to rewire each solenoid with 3 wires to the decoder?

Thank you.

Function key 2 (F2) is latching / non-momentary on the YD7001 ?

Hi

We have discovered that in our environment F2 is latching / non-momentary when using the WiThrottle and Z21 / WLANmaus protocols (we have not tested others).? Has anyone else observed this ?

What is more interesting is if we connect the same throttle to the YD7001 through an LNWI, the behaviour is different - F2 is non-latching / momentary.? The LNWI converts WiThrottle protocol to LocoNet before flowing it to the YD7001 through the LocoNet T port.

Typically in North America F0 = head/rear light, F1 = bell and F2 = horn, and the horn sounds only as long as F2 is pressed.? I have discovered through web searches and reading that in Europe F2 typically controls the head/rear light, which of course you would want to stay on after F2 is pressed (latching / non-momentary).

Feedback on the behaviour of F2 on the YD7001 welcome.
