Re: Circuit Breakers
Hi, ? May I ask a counter-question for my own understanding ?? As in Europe it is not very common to use circuit breakers at all, we all rely on the short-detection in Command Station and Boosters. In what circumstance would one use circuit breakers ? and at what current you expect them to trip ? Karst |
Circuit Breakers
Hi,
I've noticed that both YamoRC and Digikeijs show connecting their command stations directly to the booster and then directly to the feedback modules. What is the recommendation for adding circuit breakers or not? (eg NCE EB1, not PSXX apparently) And if I use a booster wherever I would put a circuit breaker, would I even need a circuit breaker? Thanks. |
Re: How Do I Connect Everything Togethe?
Les, I'm not really sure I'd call anything an "upgrade" from the ESU ECoS, as that's a very powerful and feature-filled system, but if you want to try something new, the YD7001 is a great place to start. I'm not sure how you're "supposed" to connect a DR5000 to TC, but the most likely way I'd think of would be through a LocoNet connection with a DCS100 selected as the command station, as the DR5000 is basically a emulating a DCS100 from a LocoNet perspective. If you're going to use touchscreens, I'd recommend staying with?+SmartHand and running everything through that with your separate network so that you have all the features of TC, and not using the YD7001's Wi-Fi network. If you do want to add WLANMaus or UWT physical controllers, you could do that through the YD7001's built-in Wi-Fi, but I'm not sure if it would mirror the speed commands to LocoNet so that TC could track the speed of trains controlled with those controllers. Re: How Do I Connect Everything Togethe?
Alex
i have had an ECoS for 15 years now. ?Originally I had a black and white one (50000) and then a couple of years later I upgraded to a colour screen version (52000). ?So it is quite old now. ?The DR5000 looked to be a good option to upgrade from the ECoS. ?As I had TrainController (TC), I had no need for knobs, buttons or a screen on the Command Station. ?However, I could never get the DR5000 to interface to TC. ?The DR5000 was not even a listed system on TC which did not help. ?Advice on a couple of forums from some knowledgable people suggested using the Z21 protocol. ?But it still didn’t work despite following the suggested advice/settings to the letter. As I have not known anything other than the ECoS and TC my knowledge of other systems and protocols is zero. ?But I still want to upgrade from the ECoS preferably using some control software like TC. ?So I am happy with the YD7001 as my command station. ?I had hoped to keep TC but I am willing to change if I have to. In answer to your question, I would like to use the YD7001 with LocoNet occupancy detectors, control system software and all operated from smart phones/pads. Many thanks for your reply. Regards Les |

There was a bit more to it than that. ?You first have to replace the exiting DR5000 daughterboard. ?I purchased a YD9401 daughter board from DCCTrainAutomation in the UK. Carefully read ?the instructions on the YaMoRC website. ?There is also a video on YouTube on how to upgrade the DR5000. ?You will void the existing DR5000 warranty by upgrading but mine had expired anyway. ?It was then a case of following the instructions as described. ?I had no problems at all but I am confident with electronics. Re: YD9401 and Digitrax Simplex
Karst, I think that's the same setting as in the Digikeijs software. If that's the case, then it should work to enable reception of LocoNet packets from the UR91. Alex On Sat, Mar 18, 2023 at 4:31?PM karst.drenth <karst.drenth@...> wrote:

Re: How Do I Connect Everything Togethe?
Les, What specific functionality?are?you looking for? An ESU ECoS with TC Gold is a pretty substantial setup. You'd still need a network for?+SmartHand, the Wi-Fi on the YD7001 would be WiThrottle or Z21 directly to the command station. Alex On Sat, Mar 18, 2023 at 2:32?AM Les Waters <les.waters1@...> wrote:

Re: How Do I Connect Everything Togethe?
Hi Les, ? Welcome here as well :) ? Unfortunately I do not have sufficient knowledge about the workings of TC's Smarthand? What I can tell you is that the YD9401 Module does not bridge traffic from WiFi to LAN and vice versa. Running any control software ( not specific TC ) over WiFi I would never recommend as it is implied unreliable. In general we advise ( and designed ;) ) the YD9401 WiFI to be used by handheld controllers like phone apps, WLAN? mice, TCS Throttles, wiFREDs, etc. ? Greets, Karst |
How Do I Connect Everything Togethe?
i was also hoping to use LocoNet occupancy detectors using the DR5000 and had started to install them on my layout. ?However, Karst informed me that TC does not support LocoNet over LAN so that option is out of the question. ?So, is there a way of achieving everything I want to achieve, or does something have to change? My apologies for for being ignorant on these connectivity issues. Many thanks. |
Re: YD9401 and Digitrax Simplex
Karst, That sounds promising! The Baud Rate setting Ryan had me change on the DR5000 is LocoNet tab>Settings and I set the Baud Rate to 800, then the Simplex throttles worked fine. The change was available in late 2021, I believe I am the first person to test all of the DT100R, DT300R, DT400R, DT402R, and UT4R with the DR5000. So it sounds like the YD9401 should work with Simplex throttles with that same adjustment? Thanks, Alex On Thu, Mar 16, 2023 at 6:10?PM karst.drenth <karst.drenth@...> wrote:

Re: YD9401 and Digitrax Simplex
Ah, ? In that way :) ? Do you mean the Baudrate-Tune option ? That one I implemented already back in V1.4.2.... And I did it again in the YD7100 Firmware ( ported ==> YD7001 ) because not only UR91 suffer from this problem, also some old Fremo FRED controller do ;)? ? So if @Ryan meant that Tuning option ? it's also there and will also work the same way. And... if it doesn't I guess Rayan will be more than willing to share the sollution with me ;) ? Re: YD9401 and Digitrax Simplex
Karst, I think you misunderstood my question. Of course a UR91 is required to receive the RF signals from a UT4R, DT400R or other Simplex throttle. My question is whether Digitrax Simplex throttles would work with the YD9401 in untethered mode (i.e. whether the YD9401 can properly receive and interpret LocoNet packets coming from the UR91)? The DR5000 originally could not properly interpret these LocoNet packets, and when a Simplex throttle was unplugged, the slot that it was controlling, and thus the locomotive controlled by that address would behave erratically. Ryan at Iron Planet?Hobbies worked with Digikeijs to find a solution, which was to change the LocoNet baud rate to 800. I don't really understand what this does, but it made Digitrax Simplex throttles work flawlessly with the DR5000. I know that you never had Simplex over there, as Simplex was about four years gone by the time that the EC?adopted an Implementing Decision to harmonise radio spectrum for short-range devices within the 874-876 and 915-921 MHz frequency bands. Re: Yamorc and Digitrax
YaMoRC Documentation is not that good yet
? ?but there are some very helpful people on a couple forums and Facebook
For some Answers: It is similar, has some other nice features like reading Loco CVs via POM
Yes, the YaMoRC kit is transparent on the LocoNet level. It (re)distributes to all busses, not only all LocoNet types: Physical, USB and LAN but also on other protocols if there is a suited command in the respective potocol.
Yes, the command stations (including the DR5000 + YD9401 upgrade) are recognized under MAC. With a YD9401 onboard also configuring the CS is possible through a web interface. ? Greets, Karst |
YD9401 and Digitrax Simplex
Does anyone know if a DR5000 upgraded to a YD9401 will work with Digitrax Simplex throttles? My DR5000 will, with some settings tweaks. Re: Yamorc and Digitrax
Hi David. This is a new forum...not too active yet.? But it will be. Try Digikeijs Forum.?I'm unable to comment on Digitrax. My understanding is that You can use a MAC and a web browser to configure. I use Windows and iTrain works well using YaMoRC.? YaMoRC Documentation is not that good yet but there are some very helpful people on a couple forums and Facebook.

Just did the conversion #DR5000 to #YD7001. All good, except when I connect my Windows Laptop via WiFi to YD7001-D00#####-AP I have a connection but no Internet connection. The YD7001 is connected to the LAN Ethernet fine with the settings as per the setup instructions. Also, same on my iPhone when connected to WiFi - The Z21 app on iPhone works fine and I can control trains. But I have no internet connection on the iPhone.? It's like it isn't passing through the wiFi connection to the LAN. Where should I be looking to fix this, or am I missing something here?
