The track feeds for the layout come from the terminals marked 1 - 8 and 9 -
16, in exactly the same way as they do now.

completely separate as they are today. You are placing a shunt resistors
between the feedback e.g. feedback 1 and the C terminal

Yes, but you cannot use the YD8116 DCCext feature ( sending aspects with a single DCC address ) The DR5000's firmware does not support that.
