¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYep I just checked the invoice again. We did use some Colors he had in stock. There was also a guy out of California that makes them but he needed our existing sails for a pattern. That told me he had never made them before. The guy in Canada said he had done 8 or 10 previous sets. I guess we called him when he needed some work. It would be a good idea to replace them all at one time,as someone ?has already pointed out. And the guy in Australia sounds like a good possibility if shipping does not kill you. I am in deep south Texas .Where are you located?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI just replaced all the sails on my X-Ait standard ?and it was $2600 usd . It would be a whole lot cheaper to replace just what needed replacing. And yes we did use?Maniasoft in Canada but we have not reinstalled them yet. It looks like a good job and he was easy to deal with. NoltonOn Nov 9, 2015, at 1:08 PM, simon@... ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWingtech do a great job in AU and have done about 10 sets already. CAA approved manufacturers so a known job with paperwork trail.? If some fabric has failed the rest is on the way out and ready to go.? they all follow each other.-------- Original Message --------

OPAC or Dacron Skins on a Hawk
l'm looking advise on?whether I should replace all the skins on a 2007 Xair Hawk. The flaps, ailerons, and horizontal tail section failed ?the betts test but the fuselage, wings and fin passed with?1350 gm.? Also can anyone recommend skins made by Maniasoft in Canada? or any other suggests where to buy them would be welcome? thanks Simon |
Brakes
Designed and installed a new brake cam (the part that rotates and pushes the shoes into the drums).? It is 3/16" thicker and 1/8" taller.? Previously the brakes would not hold at any RPM above about 1500 making run-ups interesting.? Now the plane is rock steady at 2500 RPM!? The original cams were rotated almost 90 degrees by the time the shoes made contact with the drum.
Local machine shop made them for $250 for the pair including turning the drums. |
Re: X-Air Ultralight Aircraft Advice swapping major part of lower Cockpit frame
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYes probably the worst part to change on the airframe, the
main axle tube and these two parts attached to it,?are actually the very first part you sit on the floor?out of the
kit box?to build the fuselage !
?
removing wings is a must really not a big job, hardest
part is untying the straps.
?
You really want to avoid taking off the pod/screen if you
can, but you are going to have to support the keel, ideally it needs hanging
from something but needs to be well supported.
?
If it was me I would remove the engine makes the whole job
so much easier to do without worrying about the weight.?
?
Not an easy job but biting the bullet and removing wings
engine etc can be the quickest in the long run.

Advice swapping major part of lower Cockpit frame
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý?
I had bad news this week, the mounting for my air suspension unit is bent
and the inspector says I need to change it. Unfortunately the bit that needs
changing is the part of the frame that everything attaches to at the bottom of
the doorway.
?
Its like tube Christmas tree, it has attachments for the lift struts, and
its where all the cockpit tubes come together.
?
Has anyone any advice or recommended methodology for swapping this
part?
?
Just looking at it I will need to remove or support the wings and support
both ends of the fuse tube so there is no weight on the undercarriage.
?
Not sure if I will need to remove the pod or if there is enough room to
work as it is.
?
Any advice welcome.
?
?
As t looks like a tricky job I am going to enlist the help of a
professional engineer.
?
?
Regards,
?
