Re: Carb rebuild again?

In Ontario gov’t legislation requires “up to”10% ethanol. My bike is used regularly so I cannot source some kind of special racing fuel or airport gas. I use premium grade with a touch of Stabil or other kind of storage additive at every fill up.
Winter storage requires a heavier dose of Stabil and the tank topped up with premium gas to allay rust in the fuel tank. Always drain the carbs, it is easy with a long 3mil hex wrench. I drain the tank in the spring and refill with new “summer grade” premium and dump the Dubya gas in the lawn mower or car.
Works so far. Never touched the carbs in the last 10 years and @ 82,000 km so far.

Carb rebuild again?

My carbs were rebuilt around two years ago.? Oil or gas residue seems to be seeping out of somewhere and is on the boot and some surrounding hardware.? Can't imagine the carbs needing another rebuild as fuel hasn't sat in it for more than a couple of weeks at a time (year-round commuter). Ideas?

Re: Possibly damage repaired swingarm

Or: install a sealed bearing so no regreasing or adjustments.

It looks likes it’s factory and is supposed to be there. I can’t think of a reason for it unless they used a chromoly insert for the axle receiver portion for better durability.

Possibly damage repaired swingarm

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to find a swingarm for my W and came across one which looks to have had some sort of repair as there is an odd horizontal weld line. It has come off of a w800 but an early one with the drum rear so should fit. Can anyone shed some light on what is highlighted in the below images?

Thanks in advance,

J

Found! Re: Where are the “Files?”

OK, the first three times I hit “Menu” nothing showed but I see the Files in a sidebar popup now. Along with a bunch of things of which I know naught, e.g., “hashtags.” ?What is a hashtag and how would we use one?

Where are the “Files?”

The many informative “How to” files, folders with all kinds of info on the W650, sound clips and results of dyno tests, patterns for stickers, that used to be called, “Files?” ?I don’t see them and can’t find any of it. They used to be here on groups.io. Where are they?

2001 W650 FOR SALE

Old age (81 YEARS) and other various medical conditions are forcing me to stop riding and sell my bikes. I am the original owner. Bike is in excellent condition, it has 28k miles and has never had any mechanical problems. It has always been garaged. It has never been down, there is no rust, dings or dents. There is less than 600 miles on new Bridgestone BT46 tires.? ? ??

Re: Header rattle?

That's awesome to know! My noise has gotten considerably quieter after double checking all the header fasteners. No noise at idle, and on highway thru 3rd and 4th. Seems pronounced in 2nd gear but we know that gear responsible for some torque and vibrations are natural there.

Leaving more than well enough alone. I would like to think that if the inner pipe dislodged itself from the header, things would be even louder and would not have magically quieted down. Time will tell?

Thanks, always W Crew. Will still keep an eye and see ear on things. Ha

Re: Header rattle?

Thought you might like to know I had exactly the same issue and exactly the same header Lt.
I am sure if enough people see this someone will have the same issue but I thought it interesting anyway.
I didn't?notice until?I heard my exhaust?getting considerably louder - from there it was pretty obvious. New nut fixed in place no further issues (internal pipe etc) 2 years down the line all OK

So ..did all the test starts in the garage hoping for the sound to reverberate, def quieter than the other day! Nothing at idle but over 4k rpm in the garage? You're gonna get noise. Perhaps a loose inner damper or something in header? Just speculation.

Sounds better than before, no muffler baffles appear loose or dislodged so might call it a day. Will report tomorrow after am ride.?

Re: Header rattle?

Thanks! I have also speculated that it could be the inner pipe of the double -walled header but the noise has certainly decreased. It's conjecture but since the noise has decreased, safe to say I am lucky and it may not be the inner pipe.?
Will def keep an eye on all this and report back. When it completely cooled, I tapped on it with a rubber mallet and did not hear any noise indicating broken inner pipe?

But...I've been known to be wrong at times. Ha.

I once had a rattle on a Yamaha SR500 that I thought was coming from a cam chain.?? It turned out to be the inner pipe of the header pipe.
I drilled some holes in the outer pipe and plug welded the noisy inner pipe to the outer pipe in a few places.
That did the trick.
