IMHO your dubya is due for synthetic and a new filter.? I haven't used the purolator filter but others say it works.? The extra capacity of it sounds good but I'm not sure about the relief valve setting, anti drain features, etc. versus the stock Kwak unit. I thought the Shell Rotella-T 5w-40 synthetic should be ideal for your Grand National.? I might try Mobil-1 15w-50 in my dubya next to see if I can tell any shift quality or other differences compared to the 5w-40 Rotella.? Shifts fine now though anyway. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jonhaddock@..." <jonhaddock@...> Think is, modern diesels are infinitely better than the old knockers of yesteryear. You guys barely see the advances because your fuel is so crap the particulate emmisions from ANY diesel engine are excessive, but over here in the UK we have nice clean fuel. To give you an example, a typical modern 1.4 diesel pumps out about 75 bhp or around 90 with a turbo. With a chip tweak, around 125 bhp. That's with about 170 lbs ft of torque at 2000 rpm or less. The best 2 litre diesels make 180 bhp and will vhip to over 200 bhp along with 250 lbs ft at 1800 rpm.. They also rev to around 5000 rpm, making good power all the way. Compare that to any number of petrol engines.
A well designed modern 1500cc V twin diesel could easily manage the 60 odd bhp of a big Harley, but would have TWICE the torque at HALF the revs...or even less than half!
That would be nice, don't you think? -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web.com ¨C Enhanced email for the mobile individual based on Microsoft? Exchange -

It's like those little cars with sparkly paint jobs, fat exhausts and see-through tail lights...Their natural habitat is in town where they can be seen. Same with bad boy Harleys, they tend to stay fairly local...Not much point in having a 'look at me/hear me' motorbike when you are actually going somewhere.
I expect the ones that waved didn't notice the appliance brand so mistakenly waved...I bet they were kicking themselves afterwards once they realised...( joke)
The bike isn't the threat, The big Harleys are impressive and glamorous machines especially to the uninformed. It is the attitude of many of the riders and those with that particular 'Look at me I want you to think I'm really hard and be scared' attitude tend to buy Harleys...

Re: Thinking about getting rid of my w650
Touring motorcyclists are far more likely to buy a bike to enjoy rather than as a fashion icon.

That was never my issue unless they hold traffic up, which is when they become as arrogant and as low down the pecking order as caravanners who don't pull over for people...but I digress. My issue with the majoritry of Harley riders is that they buy a Harley becauase they want to be seen as outlaws and the whole pipes thing is a reflection of that.
The entire outlaw culture is as you know, mostly in the minds of people predujiced against motorcycles so what these ignorent twats are doing are actually creating a stereotype which ironically almost didn't exist.

Re: Thinking about getting rid of my w650
?
That ties in with what I've come to realise.
When something in your vicinity presents itself as a threat, you remember it
and keep it within your mind's sphere of awareness. When something does not
threaten you, you dismiss it. That's why people say 'I didn't see you'. They
DID see you, but they dismissed you from their perception because we only
register predators or prey.
?
Ironically, the more safety clothing you wear,
the more mainstream and unthreatening you appear and the less you register as
a threat to people. Ergo, they pull out in front of you.
?
Less fluorescent jackets and more machine
guns...That's the ticket!
The ones you see today are yuppies trying to look bad.?
Half of them have fake pony tails attached to their do-rags. They want
to?look like?the guy they were afraid of when they were
younger!? These days it's so widely known that most of them are
hairdressers, CPA's or lawyers, that the mystique is long gone.? Nobody
is afraid of a motorcyclist anymore, and that's a? shame.? I was a
lot safer on my bike when people were afraid of bikers. They gave me plenty of
room, and NO ONE pulled out in front of me.? Nowadays, riding is scary to
the biker!

I'm speaking as a prior owner. In regard to smooth shifting,

In terms of reliability and ease of maintenance, all of my Harleys were hands down the most reliable and easist to work on. It's the Shell Rotella-T 5w-40 synthetic I've read good things about and what is in my W650 now. It's a common oil used for turbo diesels so should do well in a Grand National I would think. Most Walmart's have it for relatively cheap compared to other synthetics.....Mobil-1 for example.
