Re: Thinking about getting rid of my w650

I'd buy it in a heartbeat, just for the freak-factor. And I like military
equipment.
Of course my big 40th is coming up at the end of the month, if anybody has
connections and wants to stuff one into a box....

If they were to produce a civilian version of the diesel engined KLR I
would
certainly consider it for my daily commute

Think is, modern diesels are infinitely better than the old knockers of
yesteryear. You guys barely see the advances because your fuel is so crap
the particulate emmisions from ANY diesel engine are excessive, but over
here in the UK we have nice clean fuel. To give you an example, a typical
modern 1.4 diesel pumps out about 75 bhp or around 90 with a turbo. With a
chip tweak, around 125 bhp. That's with about 170 lbs ft of torque at 2000
rpm or less. The best 2 litre diesels make 180 bhp and will vhip to over
200 bhp along with 250 lbs ft at 1800 rpm.. They also rev to around 5000
rpm, making good power all the way. Compare that to any number of petrol
engines.

A well designed modern 1500cc V twin diesel could easily manage the 60 odd
bhp of a big Harley, but would have TWICE the torque at HALF the revs...or
even less than half!

That would be nice, don't you think?
