Re: Thinking about getting rid of my w650

Touring motorcyclists are far more likely to buy a bike to enjoy rather than as a fashion icon. It's like those little cars with sparkly paint jobs, fat exhausts and see-through tail lights...Their natural habitat is in town where they can be seen. Same with bad boy Harleys, they tend to stay fairly local...Not much point in having a 'look at me/hear me' motorbike when you are actually going somewhere.

I expect the ones that waved didn't notice the appliance brand so mistakenly waved...I bet they were kicking themselves afterwards once they realised...( joke)

The bike isn't the threat, The big Harleys are impressive and glamorous machines especially to the uninformed. It is the attitude of many of the riders and those with that particular 'Look at me I want you to think I'm really hard and be scared' attitude tend to buy Harleys...

I can only assume that HD riders in your neck of the woods are very
different to those around here or you are riding around with a very
blinkered outlook. Whilst in Cornwall I came across 3 HD riders 1Fatboy
owner & partner staying in our hotel was very friendly another was a
Sportster rider whose pillion passenger spoke to us whilst we stood at a set
of lights waiting to cross a narrow bridge and the third on a model that I
couldn't identify but was very customised gave us a big wave as he went
passes in the opposite direction.. All this despite the fact that we are not
even fellow motorcyclist but merely Honda appliance operators
It may surprise you to know that whist we sat outside the hotel near the
Fatboy we overheard many positive comments from all types of fellow guest
from young couples to business men. This couldn't have been because they
thought it was ours because we were dressed in non biking gear

He was trying. I'm sure that the majority of Harley owners like to blat
about slowly. That was never my issue unless they hold traffic up, which
is
when they become as arrogant and as low down the pecking order as
caravanners who don't pull over for people...but I digress. My issue with
the majoritry of Harley riders is that they buy a Harley becauase they
want
to be seen as outlaws and the whole pipes thing is a reflection of that.

The entire outlaw culture is as you know, mostly in the minds of people
predujiced against motorcycles so what these ignorent twats are doing are
actually creating a stereotype which ironically almost didn't exist.

You see a hellova lot more mean dudes on stupidly loud Harleys today than
you ever did 20 years ago...And I lived one street away from the South
Coast
Angels HQ for 5 years in the '90's. Back then, there was the odd 'I'm a
friend of the Angels' dickhead on his stolen and matt black Kawasaki 440
Ltd
but that was about it.

Now, they are chugging about in packs...
