What do you think of the quality of piccie so far?

I know Jon says they are poor but I reckon Jon works in the industry
so his standards/expections and level of acceptibilty (sp?)are
probably higher than mine.

Hmmm...I wasn't thinking about me...I was thinking more in line with
save the engine!!

My uncle was a despatch rider/ convoy outrider during the war; the
first thing he was taught to do was slid the bike and dismount, thus
saving his legs. No, I tell a lie the first thing he was taught was
how to swim when he was stationed at Cattrick, this involved being
lobbed into the deep end; I suppose this is where the term 'sink or
swim' comes from.

Re: Rear tire width question

Thanks everyone, for all the info. I am a former Harley guy who has
recently converted to the cult of cafe racer. About wanting a wider
rear tire... I guess old habits die hard.

You have a wonderfuly responsive community here. Thanks again,

--- In W650riders@..., "Jonhaddock@..." <jonhaddock@...>
wrote:

They are not the same size. The rear tyre is 30 mm wider.

There are two issues here. The height issue is to do with
handling, the width issue to do with matching radii. The 120/90 is
slightly taller than the 130, which is good for high speed stability
and secure handling. The 120 is also not as wide as the 'picked for
fashion looks' 130 and so is nearer to the 100 front. The front is
also a 90 profile so has a similar curve to the 120/90. The 80's are
a shallower side to side radius.

Jon

Actually Jon is better at sorting this, as he did post.

Thanks for that info Dennis.
Stock 130/80 sidewall height = 104mm
100/90 sidewall height = 90mm
So with a 14mm sidewall height difference x 2 as there are two
sidewalls in the diameter) the rear has 28mm or one inch taller
overall sidewall height than the front tire. So the stock
100/90 19
and the stock 130/80 18 fully assembled and inflated are
actually the
same size. If this is true then why go to a 120/90 rear and
upset the
balance?

.

I know there are a lot of variables that go in to what a bike on Ebay sells for, but here are some recent results of W650s listed on Ebay
?
2000s:
?
One did not sell as the reserve not met with last bid at $4009.
?
One sold for $2500
?
One listed at $4500 got no bids.
?
Another did not sell as the reserve was not met, with last bid $2999, Buy It Now price was $4000. Seemed pretty clean, under 3k miles.
?
One sold for $4500!!? It only had 800 miles on it.?
?
Some 2001s were sold from between 3800 - 4250
?
One 2001 did not sell as the reserve was not met.? Last bid was $2800.? Only had 11K miles.
?
Hope that helps.

That's why I don't live in the UK, no NX's. I'd forgotten the reason. SORRY Laura I was certain that you wanted to street ride too. We don't have a KING JON in the colonies to save us from outsiders opinions, knowledge and riding experience. I beg your forgiveness OH god of all things bike, but we're not coming back to the motherland. Get an NX you'll love it. He can't kill all of us.

Hmm...Those weren't based on the XR though...they're water-cooled for starters...Not available in the UK and not many grey imports brought in because they weren't as good as an XR at fast stuff and weren't as good as a Serow at nadgery trails . Quite heavy too...

Laura: The best of all those 250's was the Honda NX 250 from '88,'89 and very cool with it's mini fairing. Here's a pic of my NX 650, they looked alike.?Used they're reasonably priced. Daniel

Hm if I would be interested in such a yamaha xt225 (or 250) what would be I be looking at moneywise? I understand it would be good for town/commuting. I do fancy one of those, riding position seems comfortable. But you know I go through phases so please don't take it that I will go and buy one tomorrow, I'm likely to change my mind again as women do!! Haven't even sat one. Are they easy to get hold of?

Excellent! If you have time, please ask what size their inner/outer diameter is. The stock headers are double-walled, we need something we can adapt, if necessay with a reducer section of pipe that'll fit in betwen the inner/outer stock pipes, to which we can clamp the new muffler.

Yes...It's more of a noun than a verb. You might go from 'the nadgery' onto a fire-break...?

'The nadgery'...Tight twisty difficult rocky??...The sort of trails where you have to stop and use a foot to hoick the bike's arse around. Exactly the wrong place to have a teeter tottering enduro bike with it's long kicked-out front end and 36" seat height. Now fire breaks.....That's a different story!

Hmm...Those weren't based on the XR though...they're water-cooled for starters...Not available in the UK and not many grey imports brought in because they weren't as good as an XR at fast stuff and weren't as good as a Serow at nadgery trails . Quite heavy too...

Re: Anyone have a review of BT45's

V-Bass

The BT45's have been the best tires I've had on my
W650. I just replaced my worn-out BT's with a set of
Michelin Macadams. This is the 2nd set of Macadams
I've had on the bike. The Macadams are way better then
the original accolades, but I wish I had waited for
the BT's to come back into stock.

call it the "Wriders Reports."
The file is in Corel WordPerfect. Let me know if
you can open such a file, or if I should save it in

Subject: [W650riders] Anyone have a review of BT45's

I did a search last night on here and could not
really find a review
for the Bt45's. I did read some reviews from BMW
owners, and they
seemed very impressed.

So anyone have input I would appreciate it. I was
thinking of either
the Dunlop GT's, Conti TK's, and then came across
the BT's. Currently
I have the Venoms, and have NOT been impressed.

Thanks in advance!

Are they easy to get hold of?

are all electric start 4 strokes with seat heights at 30 inches or less

Re: :WAS goodwood breakfast club NOW MBS STRIKES AGAIN

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

That's the only time I've seen the word "nadgery" outside of Max King's book I've been reading recently.? It's a lovely sounding word but what exactly does it mean?
?
Haze
?

?
Hmm...Those weren't based on the XR though...they're water-cooled for starters...Not available in the UK and not many grey imports brought in because they weren't as good as an XR at fast stuff and weren't as good as a Serow at nadgery trails . Quite heavy too...

Laura: The best of all those 250's was the Honda NX 250 from '88,'89 and very cool with it's mini fairing. Here's a pic of my NX 650, they looked alike.?Used they're reasonably priced. Daniel
