New User, Can't Find "I" Symbol
I am a new user who has set up an I-Gate and digipeater at my QTH in the rural Sonoran desert of Arizona. I managed to get everything up and running using my surplus Yaesu FT2900 as a dedicated radio, an always on computer, and a new Kantronics KPC3+ TNC. It took some trial and error and several reads of the help file, but all seems to be working. The station is designated W6SDM-2.
One thing I haven't been able to do is get the "I" I-Gate symbol working. It's nowhere to be found. I have looked at every symbol in the station setup page but haven't found it. What am I missing? Thanks, Steve W6SDM |
Re: new user concerns
Following the rule of KISS which i think fits...."if its not broke dont fix it".
I build my own maps from MS Streets n Trips. Most users I know dont use or have high detailed or up to date maps. On my setup here at home i look at a 7 state area as my base map. Not the complete map of each state but portions of each centered on my QTH. But If you need that much detail go to aprs.fi. I have downloaded Topo maps for an App on my phone for offline use that gives the detail i prefer when off roading and such but still dont use or need them on APRS. Would it be useful for SAR? Possibly but how many people you know who get lost are Hams and run APRS? Maybe it would save time or be useful to SAR but i can easily switch from one device to the other and through the use of terrain association learned in my 8 yrs in the Infantry normally get out of a tricky situation and or find my way back to a land mark. To me the thing is be flexible because you never know when something will crash break or just plain die on you. So not having the most up to date maps for UI View is no big deal to me. I actually prefer old Military topo maps. They have alot more terrain features and useful landmarks. Thats my 2 cents worth. =] WW5RM |

Is anyone concerned that as new user the first thing i discovered it that this program has not had any updates in 10 years¡The core program may not have been updated for some time, but anyone can create add-ons for it, and even without them, it is still pretty much the gold standard for a APRS. There are other eight PRS clients out there, and I am sure they all have their strengths, but you live you is very usable and user friendly. and secondly RVPNG-2013 and Precision Mapping... RV Plan 'N Go 2013 and Precision Mapping v9.0 is no longer available from Undertow Software. The lucky owners of Precision Mapping Streets & Traveler have Street level mapping for all of North America. I am not aware of the other program being compatible. It is also super-easy to make static maps for you UI-View. You may want to check Amazon, e-bay, etc.The supply might be drying up but they could still be a few copies out there. Before Roger was cold in his grave, a few nay-sayers were saying "what shall we use now?" but here we are all these years later still using it. There may come a day when something prevents its use, but for now we might as well enjoy using it. -- 73 Keith VE7GDH "I may be lost, but I know exactly where I am!" |

UI-View hasn't been updated and never will be as the developer died and
instructed that the source code be destroyed upon his death. despite that UI-View still works and provides good functionality, at least for me and many others. that being said UI-View is not the only game in town. I'm sure you'll be able to find one that meets your needs. '73, rich, n9dko I didn't make it to the gym again today. That makes 5-years in a row! _________________________________ Is anyone concerned that as new user the first thing i discovered it that this program has not had any updates in 10 years... |

Is anyone concerned that as new user the first thing i discovered it that this program has not had any updates in 10 years and secondly
RVPNG-2013 and Precision Mapping... RV Plan 'N Go 2013 and Precision Mapping v9.0 is no longer available from Undertow Software. You may want to check Amazon, e-bay, etc. to see if any resellers have any stock left. Support for these products is available by emailing: support@... mailto:support@... Updates to the Parks database for RV Plan N' Go 2013 will still be released and be available as a download for current users of the program. No updates that I could find as of today. Many poor reviews though. My GPS's are updated every 6 months as things change Before I invest time and money I want to know it will be around for a while... Thanks, WA4NOE |

Dual-Mode 30M HF APRS Operation with APRS Messenger 3.31
HTML clipboard
Dual-Mode APRS Messenger Operation _Simultaneous_ 30-meter dual-mode APRS operation of APRS Messenger digimodes (PSK63/GMSK/MFSK16) alongside classic AX.25 packet APRS has been vastly simplified, with the release of the UZ7HO Soundmodem software TNC ver 0.69 on 01 December 2014, and APRS Messenger 3.31 on 10 July 2015. Both modes can now be operated at the same time, entirely in software on a single sound system, with no hardware TNC required! HTML cli The standard mark and space frequencies for classic AX.25 FSK APRS on 30 meters are *10.149 200 Mhz* and *10.149 400 Mhz*. The standard center frequency for Messenger-mode PSK63/GMSK/MFSK16 APRS is only 300 Hz higher at *10.149 700 Mhz*. All three frequencies can easily pass through the 2-2.5 KHz filter bandpass of the typical SSB transceiver at the same time. HTML clipboard The UZ7HO "Soundmodem" can use any computer sound card as a purely-software-based high-performance AX.25 dual-port packet TNC. Either port can operate at either 1200 baud (for VHF) or 300 baud (for HF). HTML clipboard With the Soundmodem linked to the latest release of theAPRS Messenger (Ver 3.31) APRS-over-PSK63 program, Messenger can now provide: * Two-way APRS messaging over either it's native digimodes (PSK16. GMSK or MFSK16), or over classic AX.25 packet. * Beacon alternately on both modes. * Function as an igate for both modes. Re: Changing the Finger Server text
Here is a copy of my original post on this subject.....
I am very perplexed and hope someone can point out where I can make a change to stop the following happening! I have changed the Finger server text in both the UiView32.ini file and the UInws.ini file and in both files click on SAVE to save the changes. I even reopen the files to check that the finger server information did not change! As soon as I start Uiview32 both of these files revert to the original server information so that I see the following lines in both files, [WXSVR] TITLE=WxSvr FQDN=wxsvr.net FQDN-wx.aprs-is.net Yes I deleted the line FQDN=wxsvr.net but it reinserts itself! I am running Uiview32 in Admin mode and Uiview is on the C Drive outside of the program folder. This problem exists on 2 desktops and a laptop all running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit Strangely a Desktop running Windows 10 in a beta version does not have this problem yet Uiview is Mounted on the C Drive in exactly the same way! Is there a fix please? And yes I did SAVE changes made in both files! Thanks in advance Steve, KF6WAX |

The O.S. is Windows 764 BitUiView32 is located directly on the C: Drive and NOT in the programs folder¡You may not have it below Program Files, but take a look at the folder you have installed in¡ right-click, properties, security. If you can't spot it, go into advanced. Perhaps you have inadvertently increased the security of the folder or files in it. -- 73 Keith VE7GDH "I baby lost, but I know exactly where I am!" |
