Re: Take my money!
With Flashing Blades is still in the early stages of play test as Rich and Sidney fine tune the mechanics. Currently representations of the various schools of fencing are being trialled to add flavour and variation. It hasn’t gone out to wider play test at the moment although WFB will make it’s public debut at Steel Lard in Sheffield next week, when Sidney will be running several participation games. If you’re on Twitter, follow Sidney Roundwood for regular morsels of WFB loveliness!
What a Cowboy is nearly finished. Broad play testing has been done and the integral campaign system is nearly complete and polished. I suspect this will be an H1 2022 release! Hope that helps Don |

Re: multiple sixes...again
Historical narratives are full of things like, "At dawn on June 9th the men of the 299th Bumbleshire Regiment, supported by tanks of the 69th Yourmum Tanks, swept through the German entrenchments outside Poutine-aux-Merde with minimal casualties and took 57 Germans captive...".? That's the double/treble turn narratively explained and done. We've been back at Coastal Patrol this year and rolling zero actions is the perfect explanation for "...in the dark, an E-boat flashed across our bows and was gone before we could get more than a few shots in.." and similar stuff that the Coastal Forces/PT boat memoirs are absolutely full of. Re: multiple sixes...again
"...one side is just waiting for a double turn to make their move, which breaks the in game narrative for me. ?Corporal McDonald and Feldwebel Mirich aren’t sitting there waiting for the hand of god to intervene." The narrative for multiple phases could be that the Leader in question (if waiting for such a run) is biding his time until a well-coordinated plan of multiple units is organized and set - though waiting idly may give the initiative to the enemy. Because I view/interpret activations as representing what a unit can accomplish (in maneuver/actions) before others (friend or foe) can react effectively,? the narrative for a run of multiple phases means catching them on the back foot.? In the case of multiple phases of firing (especially at the same target) I spin the story that such an occurrence represents a (rare) incidence of particularly effective fire resulting from better-than-average aim and/or target exposure as opposed to a unit delivering (and a target receiving) multiple phases of fire.? This interpretation was put to the test in a couple games this past summer, but I don't think they broke/ruined the narrative. As mentioned, the quality of the game/system is enhanced (imo) by its ability to create/represent just these sorts of "could have been" stories that are the sort that if read in a historical narrative would be remarked on as critical, key moments in a battle. |
Re: multiple sixes...again
开云体育Without actually discussing it much , by mutual consent, we reduce the command dice by 1 for each additional phase. It just mitigates it a bit. Other people have different approaches. ? What sort of grates is where the position is sort of ‘deadlocked’ and one side is just waiting for a double turn to make their move, which breaks the in game narrative for me. ?Corporal McDonald and Feldwebel Mirich aren’t sitting there waiting for the hand of god to intervene. ? 开云体育Well then, accidit stercore - as old Publius Quinctilius Varus put it, minutes before he embraced his own failure (and his sword).?The game is about Friction. Being able to cope with ever changing circumstances. A row of sixes upon sixes are…well, Friction. Enjoy the unpredictability of one of the greatest games out there - or go ahead and change it to your heart’s content. That is, after all, what characterizes Man…ever trying to shape his surroundings to what HE finds agreeable. (Sir Chasey’s aussie rule below should work fine..) Me - I’ll just continue to marvel at the challenges and weird situations this little gem of a game keeps serving up.? Happy gaming, my friend. Re: multiple sixes...again
There is a convention played 'down under' (I think), that you drop a die after a multiple 6 role which reduces the chances of another consecutive phase and if by chance you do get one, options of what you can do in it are limited.? Worth consideration I think.? Last game we played both sides had a couple of double phases but it didn't have major impact as neither side had enough fire power to bring to bear make a significant difference to the way things were progressing anyway.

Re: multiple sixes...again
There is an amendment on this issue penned by 'Truscott Trotter' the practical upshot of which is that a unit only gets to fire once in consecutive phases within the same turn. We have used this mechanism in a couple of our 'one off' games.? Believe the full set of his suggested rules supplements is in the files section of the Face Book page. Allan. |
Re: multiple sixes...again
Sometimes games are short, and that can be because of various reasons (happened in real life as well), and that can be frustrating. But if it's over that quickly, then perhaps you can replay immediately? Good luck! I'm now thinking of only allowing it once and any extra sixes to add a point to the CoC dice. Four sixes would of course result in a whole CoC dice instead. Martyn S |
83rd Naval Infantry Brigade north of Verkhnebakanskiy 6mm IABSM
I had been wanting to get my 6mm Soviet Naval troops on the table for awhile so this scenario was designed around that thought.? The game was based on the fighting in north Caucasus in August 1942.? The Germans were closing in on the port of Novorossiysk from the north and the Soviets had set up blocking positions before Verkhnebakanskiy.? This represents the 83rd Naval Infantry Brigade's fallback spot after getting push backed from an area further east.? They were facing the 125th Inf Div with some StuGs and armored cars.?

A pair of 15mm Crimean 41 CoC games
Played these a month or so ago and my Soviet Naval troops had a hard go in each of them. I treat them as Green for firing/casualties but give them 5 dice. As Green targets they really need some hard cover to get behind.
The first game was an attempt to take out a single German platoon using 2 of the Naval platoons. Link to flickr AAR: The second was a German attack on an entrenched position which included a bunker holding a 45mm ATG. This was a very close one. Mark |
