Re: Sharp Practice 2: two interpretations

Hi Jim

Good to hear from you. Yes, all fine up here, thanks. I've been keeping busy with IABSM solo and doing a lot of terrain stuff as well as a new caulk mat inspired by Pat Smith's second volume of Setting the Scene. If you can remember my games room, I've given it a bit of a refurb which involved a new dark green walled look, more cupboards, low hanging "snooker" lights over the table to replace the spotlights and a lovely leather armchair which Dianne kindly suggested I take over from the house!?

Hopefully, gaming with my two close wargaming mates won't be long off now - have you decided when the club will be able to start meeting again?

Best wishes to all and look forward to seeing you before too much longer - maybe at Border Reiver?

Mick

I don't think the bonus die has to be used first, or at least that's not specified.

Light Infantry and Skirmishers get an

movement. Irregular Skirmishers do not have

Watching an AAR online, I realised that the players interpreted the rule differently from me.

Re: Algeron

“Algy Flies Again” also known as “What a Fokker”, a hexless version, was in development last summer when I had a few socially distanced garden games with Rich. The basic mechanisms were in place and it would have then been a case of fine tuning. However repeated lockdowns have paused the process.

I suspect that when we return to a more normal way of life then WAF will return but as you may guess, there is quite a backlog on Lard Island to do! It may therefore be ready by “Easter” - just not sure which one!

Aahh, Algy. One of my favourite TFL games.

To be honest Algy was never really in print. Version 1 was based on BTH, then you had Hexless-Algy where Rich was developing a mechanism so you didn't need a hex-mat to play it on.

I believe it's one of a number of rules due out at Easter. Unfortunately it wasn't this year.

I have wanted to play these for sometime, but they seem to be out of print. Any suggestions??

Re: Hussites in SP2

Tom,

There is a version of Sharp Practice for the Wars of the Roses. Original was in on of the specials but it has been updated and improved. This will probably be your best place to start.

You'll find a copy of these in the files section of the Facebook page for Sharp Practice.

This may be a goofy idea but ever since I fell in love with the Hussites (decades ago), I've been trying to get them on the table.? I've only played SP2 a couple of fimes but I'm suddenly wondering if it is flexible to accomodate the Hussite Wars.? So.... the obvious question is whether any of the local gurus has done work in this area.

Nice work on the 88mm. And yes, like you, I find armour in Late War when there are effective AT infantry weapons and close ranges on a CoC tale, to be a support unit waiting to be destroyed.

?

I purchased the 88mm because I was making an order, and I like nice models. I have way more 1/56 armour than will ever see the table, but it’s just the usual wargamer thing: I might need a Somua, or a Char B1 bis, a UNIC P107 or a King Tiger or another Sherman. And I genuinely like building and painting tank kits. ?If I put as much effort into CoC platoons as I did into models, I could cover every army, every theatres, early or late…? ?

?

At one stage I counted 25 – 30 AFV waiting in my painting queue. I managed to clear all my existing vehicle kits (26 of them) this week, so what do I do? Buy an 88, a Marmon Herrington, two Italian tankettes and a Japanese artillery piece. It’s an addiction.

So far I have an 88 mm painted up for early war. Had it on the table only once but as an objective in a game.

?

Have an 88 mm from Paint and Glue for my DAK (one figure finished) mounted on its wheels but ready to fire. One in a fixed position for late war - undercoated but.....?

?

Also got myself a Pak 43 88 mm from Warlord. It is a poor model to put together but built it, painted it and finished with varnish this afternoon.

?

Why all the gig guns? Not a clue really. At our CoC games at Colchester or down at Writtle (Essex Warriors) we cant' keep armour alive on table for more than a few phases even without the big sticks.
