front panel knobs of 2465 2446 2336 falling off 7
I had one cracked knob on a 2465, so I pulled another to be able to use that pot, and the pulled one lost most of its spring clip that keeps it on the shaft of the pot. What methods are known to work well for using knobs like in my photo that have lost some of their spring clip parts? Does epoxy putty help a knob stay on? Does epoxy putty work too well and never come off? https://www.ecosensory.com/tek/tek-2465-2446-2336-knobs.jpg

7D20 on EDN Magazine Cover 6
A photograph that was used for the cover of EDN magazine was posted to the Tek wiki site today. The photograph was published in November 1982 to support the introduction of the 7D20 and to reinforce the modularity of 7000 series. I apologize for the color balance. The photograph was badly faded to orange. I made a color correction but with my yellow cataract vision, I over emphasized the blue. Thank you Kurt R. for posting the photograph. https://w140.com/tekwiki/images/thumb/5/5b/EDN_ModularInst_7D20.jpg/1505px-EDN_ModularInst_7D20.jpg

Tek 49x 3
Hi. Has anyone got an sma coax transfer switch for a 49x series SA. There are up to 3 in each unit depending on what options are fitted. Switches S11, 12 and 13. As far as I can tell they are all the same so any will do. All the best Nick

Disintegrating Handle on my TM503 21
Hello people of TekScopes, I have a TM503 with a disintegrating handle. The blue outer sheath for the steel inner core has become brittle and ripped open. This just leaves the thin strip of rusty steel in its place, which is not exactly comfortable to hold and may give me tetanus. I often carry this unit around back and forth between school and home, so the handle is functionally important for me. I've tried various solutions such as cardboard and tape, but they always fail prematurely. Has anyone here experienced and found a solution to this problem? Thanks, Benjamin

Alternative calibration pulsers for the Tek 11801 family. 3
I was going to attach screenshots from my 11801/SD-32 comparing one of Leo Bodnar's new LBE-1322 pulsers to the calibrator in the 11801. Seems I'm not allowed to do that. Don't know why or care. I'll simply state the result. My 11801 calibrator output has a 15 ps rise time averaged over >4096 measurements. I measured 19 ps for my LBE-1322. The calibrator signal proves that the head is faster than the DUT. If you have an 11801 family instrument which either has a failed or the slow revised model calibrator, this is a superb instrument. You want it! Have Fun! Reg

152-0536-00 hot carrier diode 14
Anyone know if there is an equivalent for this Tek part number, listed in the TG501 parts as 'Hot Carrier, 4V' ? It's used as a frequency multiplier to generate the 1nS markers from the 2nS signal. My TG501 has working markers down to 2nS but no signal on the 1nS output, so it would appear the diode is faulty.

SC504 Channel Control issues 15
Greetings! I am working on restoring an SC504. It is cosmetically perfect, but has other issues. Channel selection is not working. Channel 2 is always selected. The vertical positioning is also not working. I have experienced different symptoms over the last few days. Channel 1 would move both traces while Channel 2 functioned properly. At this moment Channel 2 is displayed regardless of the channel selector. Channel 1 is not displaying at all. Any ideas?

Is it possible that the 151-0367-00 transistor story is horribly wrong? 48
After solving the children's diseases on my tektronix, struggling with the proper electrolytes in the low voltage line, and of course with a lot of help from the people on this forum - the thing worked. Of course, like everyone who comes here, I've read a lot of texts about the problematic transistor that has a 100% failure rate. According to the advice available I replaced these transistors, and I noticed that the trigger is no longer as good and stable as before. Then I started reading texts about the SKA6516 transistor, wanting to find its characteristics. In the book Semiconductors-catalog-1982 I found that it is a transistor A5T3571 which has the following characteristics: Ft min - 1,2 GHz Vce / Ice - 6/5 Hfe min - 100 Vceo - 30V Vcbo - 40 V Vebo - 3 V Icbo - 10nA Ccb - 1,5 pF Vce(sat) - 300/20 mV/mA Ic max - 50 mA I've also read on the forums that people have swapped them with 2N2369 even 2N2222. Most often, the advice was to replace it with KSP10BU, which is relatively easily available today. I was also advised to try replacing them with BF199 which was used in CRT TVs and is also still relatively easy to obtain. I grabbed my box from the CRT TV days, and found a bunch of BF199, BF198, BF311. Then I got hold of that famous Chinese tester and I was amazed - absolutely everything and one on the tester was declared defective, and it shows c-e leakage as an additional diode. Also, the identical behavior as with Tektronix transistors can be observed, depending on the direction in which you put it in the tester, one way it will show that it is a PNP, if you turn it the other way around it will show that it is an NPN transistor. And this is where my doubt begins – 1. how is it possible that absolutely the entire stock high frequency transistors I have is defective, and that not a single one is good? 2. why did tektronix decide to hire semiconductor manufacturers to make such a transistor with custom characteristics, when at that time all of transistors what is listed as replacement today, was available at the time of manufacture of the oscilloscope? 3. Is it possible that these Chinese testers cannot handle the characteristics of these transistors, so they declare them defective? 4. why didn't I know or feel the need to open my tektronix until one of the big electrolytes failed and the device stopped working because of it, and most likely these transistors were in the same state the whole time? 5. if those transistors are so bad, why does my oscilloscope work at all when they are in there? 6. I put the original tektronix transistors back on the trigger board (luckily I didn't throw them away), and why does the trigger work better now? 7. Why does it say - selected from stock, in some places next to these transistors in the manual. Does that mean that in addition to being custom-made, they also paired them? What are your thoughts on these issues?

7603 testing with only one plugin ? 9
I have a 7603 that I'm trying to do basic check-out on. But I only have one 7000-series plugin (a 7A17). The 7A17 can operate in either vertical or horizontal slots, but the 7603 does not produce a trace at all without a horizontal plugin (the manual confirms this is the case, but doesn't say why). So I have confirmed that the horizontal works, but cannot test the vertical. Questions: Why is the trace disabled without a horizontal plugin? A vertical is not required... Can I temporarily "hot wire" the horizontal slot, so that I can test the vertical slots with my 7A17 ? Looking at the schematic, it's not clear which pins are involved in disabling the trace when the plugin is missing. Thanks! Pete

Telequipment CT71 TO-66/TO-3 Test Fixture 10
Hello, I am looking for the TO-66/TO-3 combination test fixture for the Telequipment CT-71 Semiconductor Curve Tracer. If I can't find one I would also like to have internal and external pictures of one so I can make one. The pictures I have found on-line are inadequate and the schematic in the manual does not show either of the two fixtures that came with the unit. I do have the TO-5 fixture and note that there are componets under the bottom cover of the fixure so I suspect tha the TO-66/TO-3 fixture may be similar. The Tek part number for the fixture is: 013-0119-00 Thank you very much, Sam W3OHM
