I'm striking out with the search engine. My 453 " Time/DIV " switch is getting very hard to turn. Watt I'd like to do is to lubricate it and see if she'll work for me.
Is there an easy way to get to this thing, or do I have to go the surgical route? The manual says to get Tek 006-0220-00 which includes the lubrication schedule and instructions. No luck Googeling it.... ..
thanks

That switch wants to swim in electronic spray with some oil components in it.? You know that crap that makes your fingers slippery.? ;)
The rod is probably heavily in love with some old, surrounding, once nice smoothly slippery, now glue-ish molybdensulfide-like material. It gets resurrected by mixing in some fresh “you know what”.?? (that spay is sold with various brandnames, in Sweden we call it? “EMF200F (also very good for potentiometer carbon tracks) or CRC 5-56 (Do not use 5-56 on potentiometers, will kill the carbon tracks directly))

Lars, Thanks for the input. What I'm trying to figure out is a way to lubricate the switch without having to remove most of 'scopes' parts. This thing is packed tighter than a sardine can. Is there is an easier way?

Dunk it in a barrel of Krytox?
The lowest viscosity of Krytox approaches that of acetone....

Stand it up on the back legs.
Take the knobs off of the T/D switches.
Put just! enough sewing machine oil at the point where the shafts
enter the bushings.
"Just enough" is about two drops or barely starting to rise up at
the
meeting point.
Rinse, lather and repeat.
This might take days to work, just be certain not to use too much
oil!.

Take the knob off and try dripping it down the shaft. A little at a time
and let it soak in for a while.

Thanks for the inputs..... Now I can't get the plastic knobs off. The 'red' one came off ok; on the 'gray', I can't get the allen wrench into the set screw. This is going to be a fun project. klc

Maybe you can still run it down the center of the knob?
?
I use PB Blaster penetrating oil with good results. Or a good gun oil like
Break-free CLP?
?
?
?

T, As far as oil, thats watt I did last night. The Break Free is a good idea. The other possibility is drilling out the allen screws and replacing the knob. The scope is not earning its keep. And i've got to get my RM 45 working as its not working either....

I picked up an oiler from a local hobby shop and filled it with the spray contact cleaner and lubricant that I have. The thin needle makes it easy to reach in and apply the oil to specific spots without making a mess. A couple of times I have found stuck shafts on Tektronix equipment where the problem was entirely caused by a tight fitting plastic grommet right under the knob. Most of the time though the plastic cam inside the switch split but I am not sure the 453 uses that design. I was not able to find any useful pictures of the sweep switch assembly. Good idea....
I was able to get all the knobs off of the unit. The plastic ring was a bit tight. I driped a drop of 3/1 oil onto the concentric part of the shaft and we'll see what it does.
Thanks everyone for your input.
