I picked up an oiler from a local hobby shop and filled it with the
spray contact cleaner and lubricant that I have. The thin needle
makes it easy to reach in and apply the oil to specific spots without
making a mess.
A couple of times I have found stuck shafts on Tektronix equipment
where the problem was entirely caused by a tight fitting plastic
grommet right under the knob. Most of the time though the plastic cam
inside the switch split but I am not sure the 453 uses that design. I
was not able to find any useful pictures of the sweep switch assembly.

T,
As far as oil, thats watt I did last night. The Break Free is a good idea. The other possibility is drilling out the allen screws and replacing the knob. The scope is not earning its keep. And i've got to get my RM 45 working as its not working either....

Maybe you can still run it down the center of the knob?
I use PB Blaster penetrating oil with good results. Or a good gun oil like Break-free CLP?
