Re: Test devices to check out new scopes??

Renee,
That is not one of these test boards Marvin is looking for.
That is something new that the head of the museum designed. I believe it uses an Arduino to generate the Tek logo.

So the first thing you need to do is identify what scope, or scope
product line, you have. Then you need to hope Tek made one of these demo
boards for your scope. You need to find someone who has one of these that
they are willing to part with. One more thing you need to specify is what
your idea of "reasonable cost" is. That may be the stickiest problem in
locating one of these.

Tek used to supply little PCB's with various circuits to test out and
let you try out new scopes.
They had triggering experiments and other waveform generators to give
you some experiencce with new scopes.
My question is: Does anyone have any of these that they would be
willing to part with for a reasonable cost so I could get one to have
for my Tek scopes? Thanks, Marvin

Re: Test devices to check out new scopes??

Hi Dennis, The PCB would have to be pried from my Cold, Dead Hand. They are also a work of Art. Ironically, most of my scopes cannot show what the Demo PCB puts out ! Have seen some on EBAY. Surprisingly the unit is "easy" to make with the modern parts they use. Maybe Tek still has them, even for sale , though I got mine for free during one of their scope-sale pushes. They may make the schematic available. Did not know they made different models. Jon B..,

3) Finally I have what looks to be a specialized microprocessor (wild ass
guess). This would be an IMP (International Microelectronic Products)
I10412-01. It is a 28 pin SOIC. They are no longer in business as near as I
can tell. That isn't a Tek part. It is not a company I ever heard of. There
is virtually no reference to it anywhere on the internet except it might be
called a "daculator" (that is not a misprint as far as I know) and it might
be related to a Tek 156-6224-00. All Microprocessor, TTL, special function,
etc, etc chips start with 156-xxxx-yy but my Tek IC parts catalog stops
around 156-3000-yy so I have no information on it.
Hi Dennis,

Those daculators are in all of the later TDS500 TDS600, and all of the TDS700 scopes. 3 per unit. Pictures:

Google for the TDS520B service manual with the schematics and you'll see how they're used. It's a DAC with 16 analog outputs.

Schematic is on page 275. Do a text search for the word daculator in the manual for some theory.

Sadly, I've been looking for a cover for a 454A myself for a while now with
zero success. It seems clear that there are many, many more 'scopes out
there than front covers that fit them. I have, however noticed that people
selling "just" the front covers on auction sites often list them by
physical dimensions (in inches) rather than specific model number. Hope
this helps.

I will try to remember how it all turned out the meetings went on and on
and on the explosion of programmable devices not just proms was an issue
the old timers could not grasp and there was a lot of discussion about the
part number system at the same time. Some of the meetings were not pretty
many references to suggesting certain people should retire we're brought up
from time to time.

Re: WTB - Front Cover For 485 Portable Scope

I had two 485s (I sold them awhile back). I found a cover for each; it took me many years to find them. They are very rare. One was listed with only it's dimensions. The cover for the 485 has no markings that indicate on what 'scope it goes.

A quick GOOGLE search shows several Tek hybrids which have 165- part numbers.

160- were proms, ~1984 the available numbers were almost used up. 165- is probably a continuation.

Pete Lancashire would know more and will most likely respond.

My goal is to unlock the secret of how the AM503B works and ultimately to
find the schematic, theory of operation, maintenance manual, etc. so we can
finally fix the plugins.

I am looking into the unusual parts in them at the moment and these 3 parts
are the most puzzling.

1) 160-9569-02. My wild guess is it is a PROM holding a program. For what
processor it might be I have no clue.

2) 165-2456-00. This is a Hypcon package from MAXTEK. I would guess it is
the ASIC running everything that isn't in discrete transistors or TTL glue
logic.

I cannot find any reference to these two entire categories of parts: I have
no parts catalogs that show 160-xxxx-yy or 165-xxxx-yy parts. I don't even
know what a 160 or 165 part could be. Not even a wild guess. I don't even
know if there is a catalog of those kinds of parts. Does anyone know?

3) Finally I have what looks to be a specialized microprocessor (wild ass

Almost my four word-class deals. A NIB very rare 7623B - this was a 7-day auction, and astonishingly
no-one bid. So I got it for $100.

Or the AA501 distortion analyser for $14 on BIN. My fingers were trembling as I stole that within a
minute of it being listed.

Or an R7603 - but with a 7L5 with tracking generator for UKP70 on BIN. Similar sweaty finger typing.

And finally a 7912HB transient digitizer with plugins for $100. And I bought a NOS digitizer CRT (the
