465B z-axis?

Jordan Kersten

Also, the dashes in the lines move along the trace...if the trigger is set to Line, the dashes stop and the trigger led lights. Would this be a sign that it's AC line hum? If so, would power supply caps be the likely cause?

He said 2 mS, but that's the culprit. ~8 mS period is roughly
120 Hz. There will be much hum on at least one test point.

I added some more photos with a signal attached. You can see some "ghosting" in the signal and some noise as well.

What's your time/div setting for the picture?

New Member New Equipment New Need

Hi Scott from Vermont here.

I've been using TEK gear since college in 81 ( you figure my age)

I have a 336 SonyTek scope which is in great shape cept the power
supply won't light up.

I dont think it's a major thing but if there's a schematic out there
for the power supply, I'd be like "whoopie!!" if I could get one.

I also own a 547 ( screen-timebase issue project) and an LC30 L/C meter

Thanks

465B Z-axis?

Jordan Kersten

Hello everyone, I have a Tektronix 465B with a small issue: There seems to be some Z-axis modulation of some kind. I will attach a pic of the screen. When there is supposed to be a straight trace, you get some chops in the trace. It is most noticeable at slower times. Also, at faster times, there is a slight bending up of the beam on the left side. Any ideas? ~Jordan~

Re: 465B z-axis?

Jordan,
Absolutely. If your triggering off of the mains, and the dashes are in sync
with the mains it pretty much proves that the Z modulation is most likely
supply hum. I would agree with your assessment of the power supply caps being
suspect. That was the root cause when I fixed my 533A. Your 465 is truly a
great scope that you will enjoy when you get it all tuned up.

Good luck,

George

I have just accepted a Tek475A plus DM44 for the school electronics

Does anyone have aschematic diagram they can send to me please?
Thanks

Re: Tek 465B Z-axis?

Jordan,

For your scope there should be a big knob just to the right of the screen.
Just above the knob it will be marked A and B, Time/Div, and Delay Time. You
should have a clear skirt on the knob with two black lines radiating from
the center. The value (number) that is between those two black marks is the
current time per division. setting of the timebase.

I suggested 5 ms only because there were three dark lines in the trace, and
at that time base setting that would be just enough time for approximately
three cycles of 60 Hz across the screen.

Manual for TEK 465M, Thank You !!!

Ashley

Thank you all for the terrific responses ! We found exactly what we
needed thanks to all of you who were generous with your manual copies.
The -5V rail filter capacitor (one of those big can things) had stopped
being a capacitor (totally open), and the +5V rail capacitor (another
one of those big can things) had turned into a resistor.

Thank you all again !

Hello,
We just acquired a couple of 465M's ( non working) and would love
to get our hands on a schematic (or schematics) so we can get these
repaired. They appear to have power supply issues, as we have swapped
the modules with a working 465M and both horiz and vert modules work
fine.
We would be willing to copy a manual, pay for schematic copies, or
whatever we can work out.
The BAMA download does not contain schematics.

Thank You

I guess that I am the 465M fanboy on this list.
IMHO they are great scopes, even more dependable than
higher taxes and cable bills.

On the left side of the scope, behind the vertical module is a +95 volt test point.
This should/must be close to +95 volts.
Please check this and let us know.

Hello,

We have two Tek 7704A main frames that need a good home. Both have

2430A screen flicker when running self cal and looking for a trigger. Normal?

I have bought two 2430A scopes that both seem to flicker slightly on
the CRT when running a self cal and when looking for a trigger. Other
than that they work perfectly. I'm beginning to think this might be
normal. Can anybody please confirm this?

Thanks

465 for sale or trade locally to Central Texas

Jerry Massengale

Greetings,
?
I have a working 465 with cart. I went through the adjustments last year with no problems. I have elected to keep my Tek 7603 for its wide range of uses (curve tracer for example). I do not know of any defects with the 465 but?will be sold as is. Pickup only. I have no boxes that will take the scope and the cart. Buyer is welcome to come and inspect and test within reason. I am located near Maysfield, Texas. Maysfield is too small to be on many maps but is on 485 about halfway between Cameron and Hearne, Texas.
?
Asking $150 for both scope and cart. I have no interest in selling them separately.
Reply off list.

Re: A little off Topic, SG504 Output Head

Craig Sawyers

I bought a SG504 RF Generator on Ebay with NO Output Head.
Situation normal. Liquidators shove the equipment in one pile, and anything
they think is a "lead" they shove in another (or worse, in the dumpster).

Anyone have a Source for one at a Reasonable Price?
Hah! Good luck for the "reasonable price"! They seem to go on eBay for
about as much as the generator, because of the liquidator nonsense - there
are far more SG504's around than there are levelling heads.

Also Looking for a 012 0482 00 50 ohm precision bnc Cable, can this
cable be constructed?
It can be bought from Tek - still in current production. I have one, and
ran some tests on my 1502 TDR on highest sensitivity settings. I could find
no difference between the Tek precision cable, and a decent cable from the
usual sources (in the UK either Farnell or RS [RadioSpares and *not* Radio
Shack]). So I suspect that a decent general purpose cable does just as
well.

Craig
