Re: selenium rectifiers in a 317
Hello Stan, Thank you for the explanation of what Tektronix did to make the switch from selenium to silicon rectifiers! This all makes perfect sense now that you tell us about the different

Re: selenium rectifiers in a 317
I can't think of any reason why bucking transformers would not work just fine. Figuring out how much to buck and obtaining the correct transformers would be the problem for me. Resistors are just

Re: selenium rectifiers in a 317
Hi Tom and the rest of you guys, Typically, new selenium rectifiers have a larger internal resistance than new silicon rectifiers and internal selenium rectifier resistance gradually increases with

7704 tube odd failure?
I have a 7704, which has the delay line vertical plate structure with the + to the final amp transistors supplied through the CRT on nearby pins on the side. Examining the vertical problem, which I

Re: selenium rectifiers in a 317
My 317 is serial number 184. I have what I believe to be the original manual, although it does not have a serial number written on the inside cover page. I scanned the schematics from the manual, and

Re: Troubleshooting your scope
Watermarking would be a good idea. (As long as it's not overlaid, but watermarked directly on the scan image.)

One of the Manual Merchants got so po'ed at those bottom feeders that he listed auctions for the copied product at 1 cent. I thought that was a great idea. 73, Dick, W1KSZ

Re: Tek TDS320 Calibration
BTW the scope also fails the SPC but I suspect this may be to do with it having failed the voltage cal. The instrument however operates normally and after the SPC is done all the DC offset is removed

Re: Tek TDS320 Calibration
I think you will find that the TDS310, 320 and 350 are basically the same thing and are virtually the same as the TDS340, 360, 380. I think you can change the firmware by changing a couple of

Re: Tek TDS320 Calibration
I hope not! Where do you start with this one? I guess in theory if you have a good DC source and an accurate meter you should be able to get that accuracy. I don't think my DC source was good enough

Re: selenium rectifiers in a 317
Hello Kurt, The 317 manual on BAMA http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/tek/317/ shows only silicon diodes used for the 3 full wave bridges, in the "Electrical Parts" listing. So maybe the schematic of the

Re: selenium rectifiers in a 317
Hi Kurt, Tektronix made a kit to replace seleniums with silicon diodes for most of their early scopes. The kit included a wired assembly that contained the correct value of series resistors needed. I

Here on the TekScopes list, he's probably most well known for developing the Readout System for the Tek 7000 series scopes. Otherwise, he's most famous for popularizing the "Gilbert gain cell" and

Re: 2445B/2465B Calibration. Am I doing it right?
Way back in the 60's when I was working in the calibration section of Tektronix and calibrating 530 and 540 series, we were taught that those timebases were calibrated over the center 8 divisions only
