7704 tube odd failure?

Peter Gottlieb

I have a 7704, which has the delay line vertical plate structure with the + to the final amp transistors supplied through the CRT on nearby pins on the side.

Examining the vertical problem, which I initially thought was a bad drive to one plate, I find that there is an open circuit on one of the connections through the CRT.

Obviously this CRT is trash, which is too bad because it is yet another failed attempt by me to get a decent blue phosphor 7000 mainframe without spending big $$, but what I was wondering was has anybody else seen this failure? I would guess it to be an unlikely thing to fail.
